Time for another one!

Backstory- I kind of had this weekend blocked off for a family Vegas trip. My kids have been nagging me to go for quite some time and they haven't been in a year, so I guess they're overdue. They start school soon so it kind of made sense. When the Aug reservations for e at Cosmo opened up, I snap made some just in case (LOL true detail- was literally waiting in the airport with Mom and Nanny back in June before we headed to Vegas when I made those reservations... kind of funny to make a dinner reservation for Vegas in August while I was waiting to head there in June). Once the reservation was made, I figured I'd better go ahead and actually reserve the trip.

Cast- my family + Nanny

Agenda- get in Thurs, dinner at Allegro
Fri- see what kids what to do, gamble, dinner at e
Sat- cabana all day, gamble, see Mystere, dinner at SW
Sun- head home

Bankroll- 50k

Other stuff- I'm a little worried that we'll overspend our food comp this trip. Actually, I'm sure we will if we don't watch it. 5 people at Wynn, including kids who eat like adults... no way we keep it under 1500 for a long weekend. I'm prepared to use comp dollars (different than comp promised by host) if I have to, but I'd rather not. I'm sure I won't be bringing bourbon back this time.

I'm also looking forward to doing stuff with my kids, esp if the gambling is cold. Definitely not looking forward to as much kid stuff as they'll want to do, esp if the gambling is good.

Day 1

Our flight leaves on time, first win of the trip. I swear with the airlines these days, if your flight even leaves halfway on time that's about as good as it's going to get.



The look on my kid's face says it all.

I grab my bourbon (Buffalo Trace, they don't have any good high end stuff except Pappy and no way I use up limited comp on that) and start things off!



So X is cold... I try 2$ spin poker and that sucks too. And just like that, I'm in the hole 5k. Gotta go to old school and slow things down.

I fire off another grand before I hit my first dealt quads of the trip!

Even now seeing this pic I'm so angry. Obv quad aces come along so rarely, you have to capitalize. I've been skunked 10 ways before on an old school machine years ago, I posted the pic long ago. SO SO UGLY. To go from that high of "HOLY CRAP I'm starting this trip with a bang!" to just the total low of a kick in the nuts... obv I am aware I hit 8k. But to waste a hand like this... you know what that means.

TILT MONKEY!!!!!

To be honest, I didn't actually tilt, but I did play mad. I had to remind myself constantly, "it's over, think of it as an 8k hit, you're up" etc etc. I kept a constant eye on my mood and watched out carefully for tilt, but I couldn't shake the anger for at least an hr. The really smart thing to do would have been to just get up- even playing angry is one step away from tilt.

I think I rage-smashed the buttons on that machine a few more times before I get up in disgust.




Some nice hits here, but I'm putting back money just as fast or faster.

Back to UX.

At this point, I'm down again, at least several K. I stupidly head back to the old school machine and try 2$ credits.



That obv goes in no time, and now I'm using up free credit...

OMG I really need a god draw to make up for that aces debacle earlier. I think if I get Fcked here I'm putting my fist through the machine... I stare at the 2s for an eternity before hitting draw.

LOL nice cliffhanger

I always enjoy your trip reports Leon. Couple of things worse than whiffing on dealt quad aces. Ten play dream card paying double, getting quad aces dealt and going 0 fer on kickers. I felt worse on ultimate X10 play Getting dealt 4awak And only having 13X multipliers.

The first example I get. Second one, "only 13x multipliers". When I got dealt 4awak two trips ago on UX I only had a 4x, and one trip ago 5 handed only had a 3x. I would have killed for 13x haha.

OK, so I'm up again. I give some back at UX, then switch back to spin.



Jesus there have been a serious lack of kickers so far this trip.

Wife comes down to play for a bit before dinner. We hit craps, and it's icy immediately. I think we dump 2k in about 10 min, and decide we never should have left VP. We head back to UX, wife is in the driver's seat.



UMMM. "Dealt" aces. How about on the bottom, on the deal not draw??!



I think I finish that pre-dinner session up 5k for the trip. Not bad considering I was stuck as much as 7k at one point.



Random free gift from the Wynn (it's a speaker). Odd that they're doing this, they haven't given a free gift for "no reason" in years, but I'll take it.

I only made this reservation to change it up. We haven't eaten here in years and I'm sick and tired of all the other places at Wynn.

We all get some form of pasta and meat.



Overall, I'd give this place a 5-6/10. Nothing remarkable. Sinatra is definitely better. My wife remarked that the red sauce is the same on every dish- there's no variation in spices or other things to even change it up a bit. It's like they got everything out of the same vat and just paired it with different ingredients. Given Sinatra is just down the hall, I don't see myself coming back any time soon.

After dinner, wife and kids head upstairs and I go play. I start off playing a little bigger and get punished for it, save for the next pic below.



This is a good one, hit 3 times total.

There's an hr between the above pic and the next one, so I'm sure I gave a ton back. I might even have been stuck overall. The next one, however, is my third dealt quads of the trip, on UX!

At some point soon after, I decide to give 10 handed a small try. Hit nothing, give spin another small try, and also hit nothing. It's almost midnight and I've given too much back. It's been a crazy day- 3 dealt quads, 2 premiums, the aces skunk, I'm barely up... I make possibly my first correct decision of the day and head up to bed. I'm up, but not much at all. Better than being stuck, though.

I worded that poorly. I only had a 2X and a 3X multiplier on 10 play. At the end of the day, It was a good hit. It just doesn't live up to the dream of UX getting A good hand with good multipliers.

Any day with a new Leon trip report is a good day!

Boom, great start

Day 2

I wake up just before 5am which is obv LOL early. Can't go back to bed, reason I can nap at some point today, etc. Time for usual coffee and degen.

As I'm only up 1k, I start at old school and play slowly.



After a while, that gets boring, and I move to UX, lose a ton but then get a bail out-



Now I can play 10 handed!



Good frequency of hits here, but it really shows the power of multipliers, esp when they're lacking.

Basically the next hand, I get dealt a straight then trips which don't quad up unfortunately. I decide to take a before and after pic for every dealt straight or above for maximum TR sweat equity.

I head over to hi limit, give quite a bit back at multiline and in frustration move to the multigame machine next door. Lose crazy fast at spin poker, rage switch to UX (same cabinet) and lose more there until-



So now I'm even for the day again. Given I've already hit a 8k this isn't good. Back to 5 line UX, slow play.

Man... this one has it all. The beauty of UX. Unbelievable frequency of making quads. AND... Still not as big as a multiplied quad with kicker hit! Both the non-kicker hands were bigger than the one with kicker.

SO MANY DEALT HANDS. And, basically nothing worth writing home about. I head to Terrace Pointe Cafe for breakfast with the family.

I've eaten here a couple times over the last few trips after not having been here for years before. Tableau is just better in every way. I actually had made a tableau resv for us on this day, but wife wanted to change it up and reasoned we'd be eating Tableau tomorrow at the cabana anyways. Makes sense, hence we're here.




Kids both got the chicken and waffles. 2/10, way too sweet and basically no meat. My omelette was 4/10. Just meh. Not coming back here any time soon.

At breakfast, we plan out the day. I'd like to accompany the kids to Circus Circus (have no interest in the place but AM interested in making sure the kids feel like dad is a part of their trip vs vice versa), but I'm dead tired right now. We come up with a good plan- wife will hang out with kids at the pool for a bit before it gets too hot. Nanny gets to go gamble. I will head to room to nap. We'll all meet up around lunchtime and head to Circus Circus. Sounds good!

Of course, on the way back to the room, I want to grab a cigarette, which means I can put some money in the machine...

SO MANY GOOD MULTIPLIERS AND NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT!!!!

OK, I've given back several K and have seriously cut into my nap time. I head upstairs. I think at this point I'm up 4k for the day, 5k overall. After a refreshing nap, we head to-



I will admit they cleaned the place up, just a bit. It doesn't seem quite so dingy as before. Both wife and Nanny think the same. It's still dingy and ghetto, of course. Kids have a ton of fun and we all play a bunch of games. We kill a few hrs and then catch a Wynn limo back to the Wynn- that might have been the most humorous part of this whole excursion.

We grab a snack, then kids and N head to the room, wife and I hit VP.

After this, wife is getting bored and decides to head up. I move over to hi limit/multiline. I reason, I'm up a few k, let's play a bit bigger.

I'm now even for the day, despite everything. I'm pretty annoyed at the way some of these big draws haven't panned out. Overall, it's a good trip, I've certainly been buried for far worse at this stage in the past, but I'm also aware I've had dealt premiums twice and have hit several near 5 digit hands and have nothing to show for it. If this thing turns really bad I'm still going to book a huge loser. I hold three to a royal and don't really care until I see the 4th card pop up, I get a little excited and then see the 5th! And as I'm realizing "I made a royal on 2$ spin!!!" sure enough the machine starts flashing at me-



Somehow, improbably, once again, I am up...

So the following pics are basically direct repeats from my April TR. The food was exactly the same, and the servers were pretty much the same. That said, wife and I were still really looking forward to this bc a) the food is damn good, b) the kids and nanny were super excited to try as soon as they heard about it back in April.



Nanny got this margarita. The salt was embedded in the foam, just the most amazing margarita I've ever had.



My second cocktail. Flames to activate the herbs or whatever. Cool touch, cocktail was just so-so.




Amazing meal as before. 10/10 from the presentation and show side. 9/10 food wise. My wife and I have definitely had our fill of E for a while, we're probably going to wait at least a year before we go back so it doesn't lose its luster.

It's about 11pm when we head back. I'm exhausted but also want to play.



Despite these hits, I finish that session down another 3k. I've stayed up far too late (past 1am), but objectively I have dodged another bullet. Still a great trip, still having fun, and still up. I can't complain.

Oh man, so great. My wife and I went to e in 2012. The only downside for me was I made the mistake of getting the alcohol pairing. It was simply way too much booze, especially when they brought out the carafe of cava. We shared it with the other party that was at the bar that night (I think there were 4, so only 6 total people) but a lot still went to waste. I was barely able to navigate back to Aria afterward

Leon, a question that I don’t think has been asked.

Other than the premium bourbon on arrival and the drinks at dinner, are you drinking while you’re playing? Particularly in the late evening after dinners, but during the day as well?

They end up giving you so many courses and a lot of them have tons of fat, it's plenty of food.

Yeah I think you mentioned that before. My wife made the mistake of getting the wine pairing last time, so at least we knew better this time

Yes, off and on. Typically I'll open with a good bourbon, couldn't this time bc I knew I needed to save comp. Something nice at most dinners. If I'm at the cabana then I'm drinking for sure. Otherwise general play is coffee in the AM/early afternoon, I might transition to alcohol in late afternoon/early evening. Nothing before bed (I'm usually struggling to stay awake then).

So I guess a typical Vegas day for me would be coffee until afternoon, then +/- a drink, almost certainly at dinner.

Do you ever change your kicker strategy on Ultimate X based on current multipliers? Such as only holding trips knowing that drawing premium quads with multiplier is still a good payout. Or are you always holding the trips + kicker?

That’s funny because I usually barely drink any alcohol at home, but when I’m Vegas… it’s always the same story, jet lagged like crazy and wake up at midnight or 1 am. Go for “breakfast”, get a coffee and sit at the poker table. 15 minutes later someone is ordering shots and you just shake your head and say “**** it, it’s Vegas” for the 277th time in a week…
