Yea, Leon having a $21k downswing at $50 is like me having a ~$500 downswing at my single-line quarter machine. I probably do that every other trip.

Given Leon is playing 10-play so his variance will be lower than single-hand $50, but still. A downswing of that size at the levels Leon plays is hardly extraordinary.

Storm,

Take your act somewhere else. No one cares about you low roller degening; Leon's thread deserves better.

To be clear, I'm not saying it extraordinary. It is an awful run and toward the wrong end of variance to be sure, though.

Not outside of the realm of possibility but it still was a pretty big kick in the nuts. I don't even really remember it unfolding to be honest- it seemed like I was winning in the earlier part of the day (and I was), yet somehow pre and post dinner managed to book two huge losers. That's the scariest part to me- there was never a point where I was able to step back and say "holy crap, you just gave back 10k". It was just push after push after push... or rather miss after miss after miss.

Next trip I think I'm going to institute a 5 miss rule- get 5 good draws and miss in a row, time to take a break. It's the only way to get myself up from the machines for a bit. Otherwise getting misses actually just makes me play MORE (bc it feels like the next hit has to be just around the corner).

Not a high roller, so this may be a naive/stupid question but were you ever carrying 20k cash or was this all being played from cash out tickets? Seems like converting back to cash more often would make it easier to literally feel that it’s time for a break.

I'm pretty sure he saves the tickets / tokens things, he's shown pics of a few on the same photo and said he tries to save them I believe, (might be mistaken tho) and then reloads using them but tries to cash them to take home tho ideally

10-play vs single line is lower variance?

Yeah, assuming same $/spin. 10 line .10 credits will produce results closer to the expected ROI on the same number of spins as 1 line $1 credits.

I typically will cash out tickets over a certain amount and save them, and wish I had in this instance. I just spun that initial ticket up so fast and so high that I got sloppy. Starting off w/ 1k and then just kept hitting, hitting, hitting... the ticket was at 23k at its height. Based on that, I of course thought "there's no way I'm going to give all of this back". Of course, I should have known the ticket could go DOWN just as fast as it went up.

On top of that, since we were hitting the pool a lot, I didn't want to have a ton of cash on me. It was far easier to simply have a ticket, which I could then leave in my wallet, in our bag, etc. Probably not anymore secure at the end of the day but it felt better than walking around with 10k in cash.

Anyways, next trip I'm going back to cashing out and saving tickets. I could have used any little trick to slow the bleed down during that 21k downswing.

With all that money concentrated on that one piece of paper, wouldn't you want to put it in your box at Wynn just to be safe?

Haha, I can't count the number of times I go to vegas, hit a couple big hands my first day, and think to myself, "Well, at the very least I'll go home at least even for the trip." Famous last words.

Day 3 part 1

Slept in slightly longer than usual, then headed downstairs for my typical routine. Hit absolutely nothing in that AM session and came back upstairs stuck, ?2k for the day.

The four of us had a nice room service breakfast in our friends' suite, with extended conversation afterwards. CUE MEAL #3 WITH NO PICS. The agenda for the day is-
- gamble, ladies head to the pool, possibility of the men joining them
- lunch poolside/not at all, planning for an early dinner at Red8, bc what follows is:
- Absinthe at Caesar's, 8pm

Random shot of the leftover chips I have on me.

My friend and I hit the VP machines again. Things stay icy- I recall taking the following pic bc it felt like a slap in the face at the time.

We keep going, and my friend is starting to get very disenchanted with VP. I explain that this is the downside of the game- as great as it can be when it's hot, when it's cold it seems like you just keep shoving money into a bottomless pit. At some point, my friend gets so frustrated that he decides to hit some blackjack- I decline in the hopes I'll run better without him around. I don't, but apparently I dodged a cold blackjack session as well- he comes back even more frustrated and decides to join the ladies at the pool. I'm good and stuck now and plant myself firmly at the machine- I'm getting something back, or I'm going to die trying. An old quote from Amir Vahedi literally pops into my mind right then- "in order to live, you have to be willing to die", or some such. It's just a reminder to me that I'm here to play, the only way I was up so much before was being willing to take a risk, etc. So I soldier on.

Hit this soon after, just enough motivation to continue on.

That hit above was the first in like 30 good draws. Things evidently turned cold again, bc I gave spin poker a try soon after-

Come on let's get a multiline spin hit, will ya?!

Result-
Spoiler:

!!!!!#@@#@#

OK, Spin didn't get it done. Time for UX. I was obviously tilting at this point.

Result-
Spoiler:

JESUS H #@#&#$

Back to my regular machines, stuck several thousand more and thoroughly upset.

HOOO!!! Man I needed that.

I don't have an exact count, but I feel like I've been dealt as many quads and hit as many 3 card royals as all my other hits this trip combined. Running good in that sense, or running bad? Dunno, but I'm still stuck.

Dump 2k back SO FAST- maybe 5 min at most. It's just about time to get ready for dinner. Lady friend is back from the pool, and walks up just as I hit-

OK, so I'm now back to where I was with that royal hit, still well stuck for the day. Lady friend says, "that's a good sign", and I'm ashamed to admit how little difference it makes overall. Perhaps she's good luck, though...

Head to the VIP desk and grab the tickets-

Basically 200$ a pop, I'm assuming the seats are going to be awesome!

Doesn't take me long at all and I'm back downstairs. We're supposed to be meeting at Red8 at 5:30, with the limo taking us to Caesar's at 6:30. That doesn't give us long to eat but we should still have plenty of time. My wife and friends are nowhere to be found, and it's already 5:30. Well, guess I'll stick the ticket in the machine and keep going...

1 min later, my wife walks up- she got trapped in an extended convo with one of the clerks at a store where she's considering using up some of the 750$ gift card. 30 sec after that, lady friend arrives, but no husband. She says he was actually booking a winning blackjack session so was still getting ready and we're to order without him. 30 sec AFTER THAT, I pick up a real draw. I make the holds, then invite lady friend to hit "draw" for me- it can't be any worse than how I've been running...

Result-
Spoiler:

SWEET. Friend is super happy as well, obv.

So I head into dinner only stuck 6k for the day, -4k overall. Still such a crap result.

Postscript addition

This occurred on day 2, but I forgot to include it with that section so here goes. Apparently at some point when I left my friend at the VP machines, he headed to the bathroom, TOOK HIS CARD OUT but left his ticket IN THE MACHINE! It had 1500$ or so on it. Realized that he left money in on his way out of the bathroom and immediately went to the player's card desk to let them know- they all then headed to his machine which of course read ZERO. They bring up the log and note a cashout was initiated 30 seconds before he left the bathroom. Immediately go to place a hold on the ticket...

... and it's too late. Ticket was redeemed immediately after cashout, probably while my friend was talking to the player's card desk people.

Cue paperwork saga. My friend has to fill out an official statement etc while they go to the tape. They have the person on tape redeeming the ticket, who obv insta-left after he got paid. We headed to Costa di Mare while the Wynn worked the situation and he was told he'd have an answer after dinner.

My friend is kind of upset at himself, obv, and his wife is pretty mad. I chalk it up to being a VP noob- he literally forgot he had money on him, bc that money was in the machine and not in front of him in the form of chips. I'm hopeful he'll get his money back- 1500 seems like small potatoes to the Wynn and something they might just chalk up as an operating loss to keep the customer happy. My friend's wife wonders why they couldn't just make him whole given they know he was robbed, and I explain that from the Wynn's POV, they have to protect themselves. They don't know if my friend or anyone for that matter isn't playing them, saying they got "robbed" when they're actually working with a confederate. But, I also opine that the amount may be small enough that the Wynn gives it to him anyways. 5 figs or more, no way, but I feel he's got a shot.

At this point, my friend has already made peace with the situation and assumes it as an expensive lesson. He's still up 2k at this point which clearly helps him see the big picture- had he been stuck he would have been a lot more upset. Anyways, conclusion-

Spoiler:
Wynn doesn't give him a dime. They reported to LV Metro and the guy MIGHT be arrested should he show his face on property again, but that's it. Honestly we can't expect a different result here, and somehow I don't think LV Metro is going to exert any effort over 1500$ petty theft.

Day 3 this far- -6k, -2k overall

Remainder of Day 3 coming soon...

$650 and over is a crime of grand larceny, a felony. Not petty theft.

PSA: Don't ever do it, it could ruin your life. If you want to be a good samaritan, cash out the ticket and take it straight to Security.

Leon,
Checking for new content on this thread is about the first thing I do when I get online at night. It's always good to see it at the top of the list. I've been following it from day one, though I've never commented because, well, I don't really know. Big lurker.

Anyway, props to you and the way you are willing to share all of the ups and downs of your experiences in Vegas. The vicarious thrills and chills you're supplying everyone who's following this journey are much appreciated. The best thing about reading this is seeing someone who, like me, has the whole Las Vegas Lifestyle as a significant part of what is, on the whole, a pretty balanced, satisfying life. It's like owning a boat--It's a $ leak, long term, but overall worth it. At least I think that's how you see it. I appreciate this because i'd say that many of my family, friends and acquaintances don't get it. I can't believe how many people will ask for details about my latest trip to Vegas, then go on about how they don't really get the appeal of it all, or how wasteful it seems. I mean, I don't care what they think--I'm gonna be me--but it's gratifying to hear from a kindred spirit.

I know a lot of LVL reflects this idea, but the pure volume and memorable content of your ongoing trip report really stand out. Thank you for taking the time and for being willing to share all of it. This thread is really cool.

Jesus.

I've only left money in a machine twice in my life: Once was $98 in a Wheel of Fortune slot machine, and luckily I managed to realize it only about 5 minutes after I left the machine, ran back to it, and it was still there.

The other time was leaving around $70 in a VP machine, because I had to go to the bathroom really bad, and only realizing after I exited the bathroom stall that I hadn't cashed out. Ran back to the machine, and some dude was playing on it. Oh boy... I went over to him and asked if there was money in the machine when he sat down, fully ready to go to security if he lied and said no, but he said yes, and gave me the ticket, as he'd cashed it out before he put his money in. Whew.

I'm not close to a high roller like you and your friend, so if I forgot $1,500 in a machine, I'd probably be suicidal.

Last trip I was with phunkphish at Cosmo and he did this exact thing, left about $800 in machine at Cosmo and it disappeared when he walked away for a couple of minutes. super sucks, and they went to the tape, but nothing that could be done.
