June 22-25 "TR"
Why the quotes around TR? Because unfortunately this one won't be as detailed and barely qualifies. Why? Because for some reason, all the pics I took during the TR never got saved to my phone. So, I can't post anything from the trip, and will also have less recollection of events. That said, I'll try and make up for it with text only, and spice things up a bit with some pics from my local after my last trip in May.
OK, so the backstory- we just bought a new house AND sold our old one simultaneously. All of this wheeling and dealing took place starting late May when I was last in Vegas. I had arranged this trip before the house situation for two reasons-
1. Vegas. Duh
2. My parents are back in town, and I got an entry into a free roll slot tourney at the Wynn. 25k for first, up to 75k depending on points earned (more on this later).
That was more than enough excuse for me. Since my parents always want to see my kids, they're coming along. Since our nanny is a member of the family and my parents want to see him too, he's coming as well. Since two trips in a month is too much for my wife, she gets a nice long weekend alone.
Now, in the interim we've acquired a new house and have to move everything in literally the day before I leave for Vegas. It's helpful to my wife to not have the kids during the set up over the weekend, but I did leave her in kind of a lurch. Hopefully it'll be a great trip and I can at least return home with some much needed cash! We're looking at about 50k in necessary or greatly wanted improvements to the house, so extra cash is critical at this time.
Day 1
We arrive around noon on Fri and head directly to the Wynn. Meet my parents and their room is ready, but mine, the nanny's and kids are not. I decided to set myself up with a regular room this time (don't need anything else) and give the Parlor suite to the nanny, with a connected room for the kids. We hit Red8 for lunch, and it's the typical decent fare. Afterwards- my room is ready, nanny's and kids still not. Odd. We're all on the same floor at least. My mom wants to hang out with the kids anyways, so they relax in her room while my nanny and I head downstairs with my dad to start play!
Ice is the only word worth using. I took pics of the few before draws, but in this case it's no big deal I have no pics to show, because I literally hit NOTHING. I think I was stuck 3k in under 2 hrs. DEFINITELY not the start I was looking for.
I may as well describe the tournament structure now. There were two components- the tourney itself and a separate giveaway. For the tourney, everyone's place was determined by best scores- pretty standard. If you earned 30k pts over the weekend (tough to do, that's about 500k coin in at my usual machines/denom), any prize was multiplied by 2. If somehow you hit 90k pts (not going to happen), the prize was multiplied by 3. So I figure, if I team up with my dad, we can definitely get him to 30k pts. After we get him to 30k, we start working on my card, and if we get to play a lot/run good, perhaps both of us can cross that 30k mark. As we're both entered, it doesn't matter who gets to 30k pts without knowing the results- we just need to ensure one of us does, then work on the other guy.
The giveaway is separate, you got up to 10k cash (with the same multipliers) if your ticket was drawn. One ticket for every 1k pts earned. Again, my dad and I are going to split this 50/50 so it doesn't really matter who binks, so long as one of us binks.
Anyways, with that in mind, my dad and I have teamed up for most of this play. I can't remember exactly how many pts we earned but it was maybe 1k. There's no way we're going to make 30k at this rate, collectively we're stuck 6k already. WTF.
I decide to take a break and check on the room- turns out the room is STILL not ready. Desk girls are talking a lot and tapping on the computer a bunch- that's never a good sign. I find out that the guest occupying the Parlor suite has last minute decided to stay another day, so they have to move my nanny and kids to a different floor. I gotta say, I'm pretty annoyed. If you want to stay another day, fine, but selfishly I feel if you're going to affect other people's plans, then they should have made HIM move to another floor/new Parlor suite. Strike 1 for Wynn's typically excellent service- there were a few other points during the weekend where they missed the mark as well. Hope it's not a sign of a larger change.
Anyways, here's a pic to break up the text-
My first bink after the May trip. That multiplier on DSTP pay never seems to line up with a big hand.
I hit the machines with my dad again and the ice continues. I think we made a quad 2 and a quad A in there, no kicker either time. My nanny's room is finally ready- on the 34th floor (we're on 55). I take my dad over to XS to register for the tournament while my mom, nanny and kids hit the NYNY arcade.
Going to XS was kind of cool- I got to see what the club looked like during the day with relatively no one around. I wish the pics had come out. It's a sweet looking set up with a lot of booths/tables- not much open floor space for people to crowd into. I'd assume when that place gets going if you don't have a table it's pure hell. The main DJ area opens up onto the outside/adult pool, where there was some daytime DJ thing going on. If that were my scene it looked like it would be the bomb.
We grab our tournament credentials and time slots- both of us are slated to play at 10am tomorrow. Head back to the machines before dinner at SW at 6pm.
And... the ice continues. So, so brutal. Honestly we did a better job avoiding UX, etc but it didn't make a difference. We made ZERO hand pays in that entire period, and I head to dinner legit worried I'm going to RUN OUT OF MONEY before the weekend, never mind earn 30k pts.
Dinner at SW was good and helped settle me a bit. I got the Kobe rib cap as usual and it was a solid 8/10. Sidewise we got asparagus, creamed spinach, mac and cheese, potatoes au gratin. All the sides were also 8/10 except the potatoes (9/10). Perfectly cooked, slightly burned on top, just the bomb. I got a Kentucky mule to try and unlock some rungood/maybe start a new LVL rungood drink. The mule sometime in the last year has become by drink of choice for some reason.
Dessert is spot on- we got a ton, but gotta use up that comp somehow. Two orders of the funnel cakes with dipping sauce- the waiter was like, "you know that's a lot of food, right?" but it's just easier to split given the large table and that way my kids don't get into a fight with each other "sharing". After dinner, I get the kids to bed, then head for more play with my dad.
ICE CONTINUES. Jesus. At some point around 10pm, I get him upstairs- I'm dead tired having been up before 5am, and I know I should go to bed as well, but it's the first day and I'm stuck BAD. Have to try and turn this around. I had been playing mostly 5 play when on my own, but that hasn't done anything. I switch to 10 play and my nanny is watching me just shovel money in. He has this slightly annoying habit of lamenting misses that just don't matter, stuff like drawing with two pair and not making a full. I know he means well, and I also know one needs to turn two pairs into fulls, pairs into trips, etc, all the "meaningless" hits to survive- but I just don't care. I'M LAMENTING the total lack of premium draws and premium hits. Who gives a F that I'm not making fulls??! So I'm playing, sort of hoping he just goes to bed, when I get dealt trip 2s 10 handed...
and make my FIRST bink of the trip. 2k and change jackpot, ONLY stuck 5k now!
Turns out, my nanny was just hoping that I'd hit something, and as soon as he got to see it he's good and he's off to bed. I feel like sort of a dick. I play on, give back another 1k before I come to my senses and head upstairs. Rough first day.
Nice draw with a monster multiplier- ONE TIME!
Result-
Standard.
Day 1 result- -6k
To be continued...
