I've been practicing and I think I have the strategy down. I'm mainly trying to focus on getting dealt three of a kind to start.

One question - is it just ULTIMATE X machines that have the multiplier thing? The games list didn't have Ultimate X noted on any of the casinos, so not sure how to tell if that's available or not.

The triple spin is the only thing I play at Aria. Decent paytables down to 5c denom. Basically playing 27 lines, and its fun AF. Frequent cocktail visits.

My degeneracy happens at Blackjack and Craps and maybe Let It Ride, and is unfortunately for me the farthest thing from structured.

FYI you have many different game variants mentioned above- eg, triple spin, super times pay, etc. All will involve betting "extra" credits to take full advantage, activate the feature, etc. Basically don't play a variant without betting the full amount, and recognize you've found a lot of variants there.

The way I'd think about it is-

1. What is my BASE game? Eg 9/6 jacks or better, 9/6 DDB, etc. Find the base game you want to play first

2. How many lines? Adds coin in, reduces variance for same coin in compared to single line

3. Do I want to play a variant? This is where UX, super times pay, triple spin etc kick in. Many variants also change the paytable of the base game. WOO will be your friend in a pinch to decide if it's a "good" game or not.

I believe "slant" simply refers to the cabinet of the machine- older models are bigger and often have slanted cabinets vs the newer uprights. Assuming the paytables/base games are consistent there's no difference in EV. My "main" game, for example, is on a slant machine.

Another thing to keep in mind is that (in Vegas, anyway), I believe video poker variants are required to increase the EV over whatever base game the variant is on. In other words, if you have a choice between regular 9/6 DDB and 9/6 DDB with DreamCard or Super Times Pay, or whatever kind of variant, the latter will have a higher EV. More variance, obviously, but also a higher EV.

The tricky thing of course is comparing a variant game with a non-variant game with a better paytable. In other words, how does a 9/5 DDB with UltimateX compare to a just a regular 9/6 DDB EV-wise? That I don't know the answer to, but I'm sure there are websites out there that list what extra EV various variants give you.

Sooga: thx, tho I don’t think I need to worry about that much yet, since I’m just gonna take a quick shot to try out VP. This time I’m not looking to play it seriously, just going for a quick 20k-480k hit.

Big: I only even played let it ride because clarkmeister refuses to play blackjack and most other -EV pit games. Dude loves let it ride tho. My playing history is I sat down with him and quickly lost about 5k. Was pissed and wanted to get it back, so played the next morning by myself and hit the 25k. Then I think I lost back another 5-10k that night. I tried to hit a SF again the next couple of trips, but wasn’t good enough to pull it off. Since then I have barely played the game.

OK if you're looking for multipliers ultimate X (double bet) or super times pay (1 additional credit per line) or double super times pay (2 additional credits per line) will get the job done. 9/6 DDB with multipliers is "full pay".

BTW I love the Clarkmeister reference. I've played with him a few times when limit was the rage and I could play, so 2004 ish? He probably doesn't remember but we played shorthanded (literally heads up or 3 handed) basically every time, 20/40 and/or 40/80 at Mirage and later the Wynn. I think I check-raised/3 bet him probably 90% of hands and was lucky to get an above-avg run of cards. Maybe he thought I was a donk, I dunno but I like to think I was a pretty bad ass short-handed player back in the day.

There are quite a few variants out there with multipliers other than the ones leon has mentioned already (barnyard, hot roll, big times draw, good times pay, etc etc etc). Go to www.videopoker.com and you can play all of em for practice and see which ones float your boat.

Truth. I didn't mention any other variants simply bc they're tougher to find, have crappier paytables, or the strategy is not exactly clear.
