So I was playing in Bally's and the game was not so good. I was lucky to get out with a 17 buck win. I was halfway to the door when I remembered the Quest promotion (see the Total Rewards Diamond thread for recent discussion), so I turned around to find a crappy pay table because that's basically all Bally's has.

I need to earn 25 tier credits so the plan is to play a small denomination to minimize variance. Found a Super Times Pay machine and the pay table was the same for 5, 10, and 25 cents so I decided on 10 cents and 10 lines. Binked trips. What's the big deal about a 15 credit hit? A 3x multiplier for 45 credits, plus it was dealt so times 10 for 450 credits total. Then I hit a royal on holding just JQss for another 4000 credits. Damn, woulda been cool to have a multiplier going. By the time I got the 25 tc, cashed out $476, in for $20, lol.

Nice one man, it's awesome when one can turn those 1 or 2 card royal draws into gold.

Those multi-line machines sure get exciting when you have a good draw. Lucky for me I can't afford playing them for dollar credits like your clan, or I might get hooked like your clan!

Yeah, having played a fair amount of single line I don't get the appeal. Not only are the draws less exciting, but by definition you're going to blank them much more often. A string of misses in single line can be the most frustrating thing in VP.

it's not that I prefer single line to multi, but at small stakes it's either full pay single line or multi line with horrific pay tables. The palms has 9/6 job 1c 50play so i do that when i can, but usually my cheap ass sticks with the better paytabled on single.

p4b,

Whoa, so like a $50k win when converted to Leon stakes!

Agreed. For me, it's single line/good paytable > not playing > multiline/bad paytable.

Appreciate the trip reports Leon.

I like to play the ultimate x games but am surely making WAYYY too many mistakes.

Can you comment on perhaps the top three mistakes suckers make on JOB or DDB ultimate x. By mistakes I mean standard plays a person should make on the regular game but are really bad plays on ultimate x.

My gut says it mainly involves flush draw hands.

IMO the biggest mistake on Ultimate X is putting money in the slot. I tried one again (for the last time again) and blanked on every push until I gave up and went back to STP. Swearing off Ult X forever (again).

I have no idea, I don't consider myself an "expert" by any stretch of the imagination, just someone who doesn't make obv bad plays. One obv mistake would be breaking certain pat hands to go for ones that can turn into much higher ones "just bc" there are multipliers- so for instance being dealt 4422, and holding just one pair to potentially hit quads- but that's a mistake in regular VP too. I've seen many people break a pair of aces in TDB to go for 3 to a royal (basically breaking a made hand which has a 400:1 shot of turning into 4 aces AND can turn into 4000 to go for a 1000:1 shot at 4000). Obv an awful mistake, but a mistake with or without UX.

From what I understand, the multiplier dependent strategy is essentially impossible for mere mortals to learn and only improves your expectation by some fraction. I'd just play normally, don't sweat the close plays, and have fun.

Will be in Vegas for the Main Event in a week and a half. Anybody got a list anywhere of what casinos have machines with good pay tables?

Would prefer TDB multi-line but I'd also be fine with JoB multi line if they have it.

Don't know about any place other than the Wynn. The Wynn has two full pay TDB multiline machines (also has JOB but I've never checked the paytables), and several full pay TDB spin poker and UX machines, both in hi limit and on the floor. I think at least 7 total, minimum 1$ credits on all the machines.

Heh, tbh the part of Ult X that I liked the most was the possibility of multipliers. Now that I found STP I'd rather play that although the multipliers don't come as often. At least you don't seem to pay as much for the privilege of getting multipliers as in Ult X and when you do get one, it applies to every line.

I sometimes hold QT suited, for example, when I should dump the T when there's a multiplier, but that's probably a fairly small mistake.

With a little experience you should be able to peruse the VP aisles and identity full pay tables rather easily, but VPFree2.com is your friend.

On another note, does anyone have link to a 9/6 DDB strategy sheet? We're relying on the one from Wizard of Odds, but it shows some conspicuous anomalies that are hard to believe (for instance that three to the royal TJQ ranks higher than JJ and QQ, but lower than KK?)?

KK takes out two of your outs to make your straight with 10JQ

With all the Ultimate X talk, I find myself making plays I normally wouldn't make on any other VP machine as I'm trying to bink a straight/flush/full house for the big multiplier for the next round.

For example, on a Ultimate X - 10 Play, a draw of 10h 8c 6s 4h 2h, I might hold the three hearts, which is probably a bonehead move odds-wise, instead of drawing 5 new cards.

Typically on a move like this, I'll hit 1-2 flushes by just holding the 3 hearts..thus triggering 10X for the following round..

I think depending on the game holding a 3 flush (as opposed to complete redraw) is actually the right move.

Wat? Holds are different with a multiplier? Hadn't even considered that.

Heh. Sat at the GSR in Reno watching my wife play DDB - saw they had Ult X as one of the games and in honor of Leon tossed in a hundred - second hand hit 4 aces with 8x for $800 playing quarters.

Played a bit more and lost back $100 in about 2 minutes so I cashed out - it was fun, but the variance seems insane.

Holds aren't different with the multiplier in the round you are playing, but I play them different when I take into account the following round having a 8X, 10X or 12X multiplier..

So true about variance..you can win a lot/lose a lot pretty quickly.

The only other VP game that has a greater variance, in my opinion, is multi-strike poker, particularly 5 play, multi strike..

Love them 10x multipliers. Got dealt 2 pair on a 5 line, even with no monsters hitting ended up with a 700 credit hit. Damm you leon, I might be hooked on STP. The dumb luck potential on them is better than most slot machines.

On my recent trip, I found very few Ultimate X machines that offered TDB..and most of those had crappy paytables.

I ended up playing mostly DDB when I played Ultimate X which I used to play all the time, but now has become sort of boring since Leon opened my eyes to TDB..
