Sept 16-19 recap TR
It's that time again! Super excited for this one- haven't been to Vegas in almost 2 months, and there are other details below which should make this more than "just" another Vegas trip.
Backstory-
Main reason for this is the 10k buy slot tournament. Like all tournies, I'm super hopeful at the outset. Maybe THIS is the one where we bink something huge. And, like all previous tournies before, it's probably going to be a kick in the nuts. Meh whatever, I'm flush at the moment and there's never going to be a better time. The tourney is actually two separate tournaments- one with cash, one with free credit. Top prize on either is 150k so definitely nothing to sneeze at.
Initially tried to get my mom signed up as well (so we can fire two bullets), but our host won't let her in. I kind of expected this- there's a 50 person cap, and they don't make money off the tourney itself, so they want to get as big of a player in as possible. So we split the buy in 50/50. I also convince the wife to come, so we should have a nice, adult trip together which I don't think I've had with my wife in quite a while.
On top of that, I made a point of making reservations at multiple restaurants outside of the Wynn. We're all really sick of the Wynn, and with Costa di Mare closed we now have even less options. After considering choices, we go with Majordomo Meat and Fish at the Palazzo, and L'atelier de Joel Robuchon at MGM. I wanted the full Joel Robuchon (been there with my wife twice and parents once), but alas they were all booked up even in July.
Eating at other places will in turn free up more comp, so I intend to bring lots of bourbon back for friends. AND, it's still warm enough to get a cabana, so there's that as well. Overall, we're all set to have fun- now we just need the result!
Bankroll- 50k (mom wants 20% action so I'm really in for 40)
Agenda-
Thurs- get in, pre-reg for slot tourney to pick up freecredit 4th bonus rd, dinner at Mizumi
Fri- wife works all day. Gamble, freecredit tourney, dinner at Majordomo
Sat- reg for cash 4th bonus rd (dependent on 50k pts earned, I should easily hit this), cash tourney, cabana, dinner at L'atelier, hopefully roll around in wads of binked tourney winnings
Sun- home
Here we go!
Day 1
Slight delay on the tarmac, hopefully using up runbad for the trip.
We get checked in- the womenfolk want food. Ain't nobody got time for that. I grab a double of George T Stagg barrel strength and consider my options.
Man, this place is crowded. Esp high limit. There are at least two high rollers tying up machines, hitting a jackpot every hand. An attendant is assigned to each one of them- don't understand why the Wynn doesn't just adopt an auto-unlock feature. On top of that, one of the guys is that old douchebag entitled rich guy that I had a run in with years ago- still can't stand him, still irritates me to see him alive, kicking and spending gobs of money while being a jerk to everyone less wealthy than him, which is basically everyone. OK, that settles it. UX it is, despite the fact hi limit multiline was so good to me recently, and UX so bad.
I open with 10 hands, ready to step down quickly if things are cold. Nine hands in-
Always good to open the account early.
Super early- dealt quads!
"Just" 7s. Multipliers ain't great either. Whatever, we'll take it.
Staying alive...
I cycle MANY hands- I know at some point I was up near 10k. Of course, this gets whittled down bit by bit. Finally I decide to try hi limit again. The one thing that's been missing are aces- haven't seen trip aces yet, haven't made a 4000 once. Eventually, that's going to be death...
OK, that's a good result!
That's just frustrating.
These 2000s are keeping me alive.
I've been playing for hours and at this point I believe I'm slightly down. Time to pre-reg and pick up that 4th bonus rd.
After that, it's time to get changed, play a bit then head to dinner.
The usual complimentary snacks etc. We stayed in a two bedroom Salon suite, didn't bother grabbing pics this time bc you've all seen them before.
Wife and I play a bit more UX and it's cold. We head to dinner stuck 7?k.
Mizumi
Mom wanted to try these wagyu dumplings- 7/10. Hers are better.
All sushi was the typical 7-8/10, same with the wagyu beef. We also got udon (forgot the pic) but they've changed their noodles now- they're much thinner and much less "bouncy" when chewed. Honestly, I didn't know udon was anything other than fat noodles. Definitely not as good, definitely would not get again when specifically in the mood for udon.
Overall, it was your standard good Mizumi meal, slightly disappointing the udon situation.
After dinner, wife wants to turn in early. I head to hi limit, donate another couple of thousand then decide I'm tired of losing "real" money. It's free credit time.
I have my usual 2k free credit, plus 2.5k I got from a drawing from July. It was quite nice to stare at "4500 freecredit" every time I carded in, but in typical fashion I've started cold and would rather have the cash.
Start.
End. Just abysmal, basically 2500/4500 payback or slightly over 50%.
Need a lot more of these.
Overall, I'm steadily going downhill. Not picking up as much as I'm putting in. STILL no 4000 hand. But, I soon get my second dealt quads of the trip!
That's not getting it down. I think I was frustrated enough I didn't take a pic where you can make things out- they're 10s. Non premium, obv.
OK, back to 25 lines.
I think this was my height for the night. After that, I lose slowly. Then more quickly. At some point tilt kicks in despite seeing it coming, I'm just powerless to do anything about it. It probably was that 4 to royal, followed by 3 aces with a kicker, both 25 ways, both blanks that did it. I keep playing, keep losing, and end up heading to bed just after midnight stuck, tired and pissed. Free credit, gone. Two dealt quads? Who cares. Up 10k at some point? Now down 15k. So, so bad.
Day 1 result- -15k
Day 2 coming soon...
