Got some options lined up. I personally don't care about Chinese NY's at all so any timing with that will be coincidental.

On a less happy note, in the last week we've paid or soon will pay for-
- Disney cruise
- 4k (and growing) vet bill for a sick cat
- received "supplemental" property tax bill for our house
- wife's backyard project
- AND... the kicker. "Eagerly" waiting to find out just how badly we're going to get screwed on taxes this year. I'm predicting 20-30k NET increase.

I might not have a bankroll when this is all said and done.

All the W2Gs push up the AGI. That in turn affects everything. Inflated AGI, combined with a net gambling loss, is a double whammy.

It's the new tax laws. The limit on state, local, etc tax deduction is going to be a killer. Quite honestly I'm sure I'm going to get screwed.

This is going to kill our return, it is quite a big difference for sure.

I know this is just stupid random, but I literally laughed out loud a little because I say that seemingly all the time. The difference between our situations is I usually know exactly how it's going to happen and can see it coming a day away.

Net $20k increase from SALT limitation would be a loss of $54k in deductions in the 37% tax bracket. i.e., If you want to deduct $64k SALT but limit to $10k equals $20k at 37%

I of course have no idea what your tax situation is, but I think at those levels of taxes, income, and deductions you may come out about the same by getting out of the AMT where SALT deductions are added back into income for tax calculation, 28% at this level anyway.

I calculate our taxes will increase about 4k on 23k more income, although limiting SALT deduction from $22k. Saving about $4k with no applicable AMT anymore. Best thing for us is the bottom line is net lower $3k because the child/dependent tax credit phaseout increase no longer hits us so we'll get $9k credit instead of $2.

More often than not tax law changes don't make as big of a difference for individuals as they think it will.

leon's big $10k+ hits are amazing to see, but it's not something within my realm of possibility. I basically don't play any video poker that's more than $2.50 per push, so those are out of reach.


But a $2k hit on a $1.50 push UX? I've played that game before. I haven't hit that hand obviously, but that's something that I can at least realistically dream about. Ahh if only.
