Things to know? Despite how often I stay, I'm certainly no expert. Here's my take-
- all expensive dining options are good, eg Lakeside, SW Steakhouse, etc
- all cheaper options are basically decent (eg Red8, Allegro)
- EXCEPTIONS- I think Jardin and Wing Lei are terrible, avoid
- no matter where you eat, it's going to be overpriced- it's the Wynn
Especially agree w/the last. When I used to stay at the Wynn a lot, I basically never ate there. I went over to the Venetian (food courts) or across to TI, if I didn't have a car or time.

Serious question, does multi-line VP have a predetermined outcome prior to the cards being displayed? To clarify, I'm curious if the machine has a "payout RNG" which is expressed by way of displaying the cards (rather than a card RNG). Based on playing single line versus 5 or 10 play, the multi-line rarely gives you dealt starting hands which goes against true randomness. So if I win a jackpot, I wonder if it had anything to do with the draws hitting or was the outcome already decided before drawing?

Only if you are playing a bingo based VP game which would be indicated on machine. They have those type of machines in NY and Oregon. Vegas is purely random (not predetermined) on single line and multiline where card selection is based on skill.

Below is type of machine you are talking about in Oregon. It is obvious that it is not a standard VP machine. I believe they call them class II.

Ask the slot director if the VP machine are class II if it is unclear.

Spoiler:
But goodluck with that

Of course I'll post if there's something cool. I've been once since my last Vegas trip and it was terrible- dumped way more money than intended. Gotta get back on the responsible train and try and save it for Vegas.

Not quite up to Leon's standards, but I had this very nice hit at Planet Hollywood while waiting for a WSOP Circuit game to start. It's awesome when it's just handed to you.

Something to help everyone get by until Leon’s next update...videopoker(dot)com’s new app is now available. I don’t know when it came back, but I like it! It retained the training mode for most games, like it did when it was called, PocketVP (or was it VPpocket?). Great app for practicing and learning from mistakes, while in training mode. No, I’m not a shill or affiliated with the app or the site. For anyone who wishes to learn VP or expand their knowledge, it’s a great app.

Wow, when did this happen? My app is still the same. I use it to kill chunks of time daily. Currently on a nearly 100,000 hand royal-less streak.

Yea, this is precisely why I don't like that game - it brings up situations that you have to actually think about, and I'm all about playing on autopilot and just relaxing.

But for this particular example, it looks like if you hold the 444, you get:

the 5, and then the other 4, 1/46 of the time, for a 430 payout.

the 5, and then another 5, 3/46 of the time, for a 50 payout.

the 5, then a blank, 42/46 of the time, for a 10 payout.

So, (1/46)(430)+(3/46)(50)+(42/46)(10) = 21.74 payout, on average.

If you hold the 3 4 6 spades, you get:

the 5s and then the 2s or 7s, 2/46 of the time, for a 250 payout.

the 5s and then some other spade, 7/46 of the time, for a 35 payout.

the 5s and then a non-spade 2 or 7, 6/46 of the time, for a 20 payout.

So, (2/46)(250)+(7/46)(35)+(6/46)(20) = 18.80 payout, on average.

Looks like it's a no brainer to keep the 4's.

Ok one more because lol. The game is Powerhouse Poker. If youre dealt jacks or better, you get to draw at 9 extra hands, some with multipliers. JoB pairs is one at 2x, but trips usually gives 5 different mulitpliers, with multiple as high as 8x, and dealt straights or flushes are worth about 10-15× the bet as a result of the multipliers. I havent been dealt a full house or higher yet, so unsure what those multipliers will look like on fat deals.

Anyway, note the following hand. Dealt a pair of kings, on the bonus draw, the K of spades shows up in the first 8 hands.

Late Nov TR

Background- it's that time again. Fully a month has elapsed since my last trip. Set this one up pretty much as soon as I got back in Oct. There's a freeroll slot tournament with first place being up to 45k in free credit, and an additional drawing element where first is 22.5k in free credit. I've got the time, got the run good, so let's do this!

Pretty much as soon as I arranged this trip, the doomswitch activated at the local casino. I think I went 3 times in Nov, and got crushed each time. Just could not make a hand, spin poker in particular took money lightning fast, 2k losers turned into 4k, etc. Just enough to make me super gunshy prior to this trip. I've still got plenty on me, but as I said earlier paradoxically having more I can lose makes me realize I've got more to lose. Ugh.

I'm bringing 30k with me. I got in on a Thurs, with plans to stay until Monday around lunchtime. Other than the slot tourney and gamble, only thing on the agenda is meeting up with Gobbo on Friday for dinner. Should be a good time. Here we go!

Day 1

I get off work fairly early, and start receiving updates on my flight very soon after- delayed due to the rain. Uh oh. I've seen this before. My flight gets pushed back more and more, and pretty soon I'm looking at the other, earlier flights to see how they're doing. Weird- a flight leaving at 5:30 isn't getting delayed at all, but meanwhile my flight now has me getting in close to 11p. That's unacceptable- quickly check and for a pittance more I can change to the earlier flight, AND now be business select. No brainer. I make the change, quickly pack and off I go.

At the SD airport. So excited.

Headed to the Wynn- SO EXCITED!

I love the holiday decorations.

I've got a regular room again, no need for more.

Pretty standard welcoming gift from the host.

Basically as soon as I put my stuff down, I grab money and head downstairs. I've got to earn 30k points by Sunday, 9am to qualify for the top tier of prizes in the tournament and the giveaway- should be a snap given I earned over 50k pts last time.

Starting pts.

This time, I start off with spin poker. No need to screw around with what WERE my usual machines- short of being dealt monsters or running insanely well, the potential for massive hits just isn't there like it is with spin. On top of that, my usual machines were SO cold last trip.

1k gone. 2. 3. 4k. I seem to be rapidly approaching the first night stop loss of 5k. Pick up a few good draws but can't get there. I'm seeing the negative variance of spin for sure. I end up 5k down and of course don't stop- it's the first night after all!

I make this pretty much as soon as I kept going past 5k. Thank god!!! I'm up!

Switch the 10 and 3 and I make another 4AWAK as opposed to just 4 aces- two lines run through there.

Emboldened by that hit, I step up to 12 lines total. 12 lines basically means trip draw hits will create 4 hands rather than 3. Of course, the doomswitch reactivates and pretty soon I'm stuck again.

Switch to the other spin machine- no good. Try switching to a third one, but the screen is messed up and I can't even select my game. Head to my usual- same old ice. Rinse, repeat.

At some point I'm down 5k again. Stupidly keep going, and I'm down 7k. I KNOW I should go to bed, but this can't just keep going, can it? I literally was up over 1k what seems like a second ago, and I know I can erase this with just one more hit.

It's not to be. End up stuck 9k and come to my senses. I don't think I've ever had a first day so devoid of pictures. I'm really worried how these next few days are going to go- at the current rate, I'm not even going to make it until Monday...

Day 1 result- -9k

Note about bringing 30k- intellectually I think I know on some level just how fast I could lose at spin if it's cold, hence I brought more money. The runbad at the local was certainly confirmation. So while I'm prepared to lose more than usual, I know it's really going to piss me off if so. Let's hope I don't need the money...

Leon,

If you feel comfortable sharing, I’m sure many of us would find it interesting to hear:

2018 (or whenever) starting bankroll
Money taken out for house stuff, vacations, etc
Current bankroll

Totally understand if you don’t want to share that, and still appreciate and enjoy your detailed trip reports regardless.

I saw this thread back at the top of LVL and was hoping Christmas came early in the form of a trip report. And Leon did not disappoint.

P.S. - ouch on the first night losses

I feel comfortable sharing most of that, but it's not going to be accurate. I suppose I could go back to 2017 and reconstruct every TR but even then it won't take into account all the little trips to the local, etc. Here's my best shot-

2018 start- I think I started with 30k ish
Out other than losses- 20k to wife, about 20k to nanny (we pay him cash), can't recall any other big expenses that I've used the roll for. Sundry things here and there like when my wife goes to the farmer's market and all they take is cash, etc
Input- I'm sure I've taken at least 10k from the bank from atm visits, withdrawals, etc. Also probably gotten about 10k in "gift" from parents while running bad, etc. I've tended to pay those back but not all

Don't want to reveal current roll as that might give away results of this TR

Lastly, you'd think a simple win/loss would give accurate info but I can tell you first hand this isn't the case. Every year the net loss I get from all casinos is FAR higher than my actual loss. Some of it I'm sure is free play, etc that I lose, don't think about as a loss but of course the casino counts it, but even that doesn't come close. For instance, win/loss 2016 and 2017 has been almost 200k. No way that's close- I'd know it and my wife would have left me long ago. So it's wrong in my favor, but literally is of no value as a tracking tool.
