Day 3 Part 1
Went to bed slightly earlier, and wake up slightly later (7am) which is a good thing. Really motivated to get the winning ways back on track.
Move over to spin soon after, and FINALLY get my first dealt quads of the trip!
Too bad it’s not premium, this is only worth-
Shortly after, I see-
Which must mean I made premium quads, once w/ kicker and once w/out.
Unfortunately after that, I go through a long cold patch and give most of the money back. I finish the session off with
Which puts me up 3k? For the pre-breakfast session.
For breakfast, we grab room service (no pics). There’s something magical about a good croissant, slathered with butter and dipped in egg yolk. Let’s just say we ate far more than intended. Post breakfast, we were slated for another day of cabana but we cancelled it the day before once we realized that it would likely be even colder and less pool-friendly on Sunday than Saturday. The kids decide on Circus Circus; my wife has some work she wants to take care of and no one is in a particular rush, so I head downstairs for another quick session. My family will meet me downstairs when they’re ready to go.
I head back to spin and am rewarded immediately-
My family shows up shortly after, allowing me to book a win that short session. Up 4k for the day.
Circus Circus
Sure, it’s ghetto. But they’ve got tons of games and the roller coasters/bigger rides are actually decent for what they are. We get all day passes for me and the boys, knowing we’re not going to stay all day but you get value out of it if you basically ride on > 4 rides. We start off with some video games, then my oldest wants to play laser tag but curiously my youngest doesn’t. So the young one heads off with mom while I proceed to play against my oldest and some random kid- the place was so empty we’re the only 3 competitors. I try and soft play a bit but my competitive juices come out and I just can’t help myself- yeah, I’m that adult beating up on kids in laser tag.
After that finishes, we meet up with wife/youngest and he’s convinced her to play some ticket-winning games. So now they have a few tickets, and my wife actually is ok with them getting more/getting more junk prizes. Ugh, I thought we said we weren’t going to bother this trip. She encourages me to play the ball drop game so we head over there. The jackpot is at 1000 tickets again (never seen it higher), OK here we go.
First play. EZ game.
I’ll win them, but you guys need to collect and redeem them.
It was trivially easy to win the first time, but I think I figured out a catch to the game; I’ve written in previous TR’s where the settings at other places (eg, NYNY) are much more difficult- there, for instance, you need to drop balls in two groups of 5 and the rest 4s to have any shot of getting all 50 before time runs out. Here, I was super relaxed, never pressured for time, and I went in groups of 4 and a final group of 2. EZ. Well, after we got those 1000 tickets out the jackpot meter reset to 500, but we didn’t quite have enough tickets for what the boys were going to get. So I head back to the game fully expecting to just bring the pain again, but I whiff 3 or 4 games in a row again- 46??? 49, 49. The first try time was noticeably shorter. I accounted for it the next two times and realized the rotation speed slowed down after the jackpot- so now I had to do two groups of 5 just like at NYNY. Interesting- so the game gets harder depending on whether it’s been hit recently. I bang my head against that wall several more times, always whiffing the last ball until I finally hit again for 530 some tickets. Circus Circus 1, me zero (since I blew about 10 bucks to collect meaningless prizes).
After that, I manage to convince my oldest to ride on the two scariest roller coasters they have- first what I feel is the better of the two, very steep, sharp drops and multiple points where you are literally hanging off the edge of the track or upside down moving SLOWLY, the only thing holding you in are the restraints. My kid is kind of a chicken and it took a lot of convincing but finally he went. Scared to death the first time, but once he realized he lived he was ready to go again. So we did that a few times, then the bigger of the two that goes around the entire place. Never a line, this is actually decent value. Play a few more games, ride a few more rides and by now we’re hungry.
We were going to eat lunch at the Wynn, but it’s already 1:30p and we’re supposed to eat at Costa di Mare for dinner at 7p so I don’t want to eat too much for lunch. And, at some point in there I’m supposed to pick my parents up and bring them to the Wynn- I call them and arrange for us to head directly to the condo from Circus Circus, we’ll eat leftovers as a quick snack, then all go to the Wynn in the afternoon. We get in one final round of laser tag (youngest actually plays this time, I team up with him against my oldest and a random kid, win handily but my youngest gleefully shoots ME several times) then head to my parents.
Eat a quick snack, then it’s back to the Wynn!
My dad and I play next to each other while my wife takes the kids upstairs. I hit this pretty early, while my dad runs cold-
Unfortunately, my phone says that an hour took place between that and this next pic- an hour is an eternity for me to not hit at my speed of play.
Look carefully- finally got a trip draw to come in on spin. 2k hand YET I have no kickers on inspection. That means I hit quad 2s, FIVE ways. I don’t know whether to be happy or annoyed. Put a kicker up there and this is WAY bigger.
So there we see the greatness that is making a hand at spin on the center line, but it’s still a “woulda coulda shoulda” hand. I get nothing else out of that machine and head back to my usual just in time for a small slap in the face-
I’m stuck 3k for this session, so basically up only 1k for the day.
Well, THAT helps!
Go to 2$ credits and get nothing. Step back down to 1$ credits.
Pick up three aces, draw…
Agh of course it comes in twice but no kicker either time.
Keep going. Give most of the money back. I’m only up 2k total. Dad comes back to spin next to me. He’s not doing well- down about 8k I believe. Then, he hits 4 AWAK 2 ways for 8k and is back even. OF COURSE, what does he do but immediately go to 2$ credits. I try and warn him off, remind him he’s just even again, and not to get himself into a big hole again so fast. He of course doesn’t listen.
I’m playing while he narrates periodically- basically any time he gets a small pair I hear about it as if it’s a good draw. Pair of aces OBVIOUSLY gets spoken about. 3 to a royal… whatever, I half zone out and don’t even watch his draw… then I hear the jackpot noise go off. Yep, he’s turned 3 to a royal into the big one, 3 ways, 2$ credits. 24k hit. Go dad.
I’m happy for him, but not hitting myself. I decide to give 15 line spin poker a try- I’ll give myself 2k for this little endeavor. I have to hit a big draw at some point, right? 4 AWAK or something, 5, 6, 7 ways, that’d be great.
The machine agrees- I have to hit a draw at some point, right???
To be continued...
