Day 4 part 1

Can't remember exactly what time I woke up. We're planning on hitting the buffet today when everyone is ready to go since we missed it yesterday.

Gambling-wise, I'm trying to get my head right. I've got about 48hrs left in town, and only being 2k down is actually a really good result for most trips. It'd be nice to book a winner, but let's get real, I've run like god for over a year. So with a renewed attitude, I head downstairs.

Gah. So frustrating.

At least I'm hitting some winners. I can't have any long droughts!

It's really interesting how one's mind can completely fabricate emotions "after the fact". As in, "I knew I felt this when..." or even worse "I had this knowledge before I learned about...". It's a very well-established psychological phenomenon- the human brain will, post facto, invent all sorts of things which never occurred to help explain things/make them feel better about something which they were totally ignorant of at the time. Quite frankly, I think this has a TON to do with our current problems as a people- we've got a bunch of people running around who don't understand their brains will post-facto literally make **** up to help explain things and make them feel like they understood more after the fact. Anyways, it's at least helpful to know and be aware of the phenomenon, in my opinion.

Case in point- I feel like I "knew" I was going to get dealt quads again, and lo and behold, I pick up my 5th dealt quads of the trip! Of course, that's BS. I didn't know. But man, looking back on it it sure FEELS like I "knew". Anyways, here they are-

Spoiler:

HOLY MOTHER OF ALL F YEAHS!!!!!!

This. Is. Going. To. Make. My. Trip. I've got a shot at a huge winner again, but I absolutely must have a god-kicker draw. Can't believe I've been dealt premium quads twice. CANNOT WASTE THIS!

Result-
Spoiler:

YYYYYAAHAHAHAHHAHAHWAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!

What an amazing hand. What an amazing, nerve-wracking draw. When those first few hands came in, and I saw "800", "800", "800" I was like "oh god, not again! Don't skunk me!" and of course the first six were garbage. Then hand 7 I know I'm not whiffing at least. Hand 8, and I've hit expectation. 9, this is above avg! And finally 10, this is a F'ing great result.

So I bask in that glory for a while. Text my wife and let her know. Text my buddy from the Feb trip and let him know. Take 2 x 10k tickets and the rest cash. Short of a total crash, I'm booking a winner this trip, again!

I continue, and the machine gives me back the 2k I stuck back in.

OK, it's time for breakfast. I'm on cloud 9.

The buffet

Quite frankly, I like this set up better. It's basically the same buffet items, but they serve you on small plates and bring the food to you. There's no waiting, and it prevents you from over-eating things that you didn't really want that much of. I'll definitely be back.

Carne Asada tacos.

Prime rib and broccolini.

Breakfast potatoes (maybe the best thing I ordered).

Blintz.

We got a ton more food, but I forgot to take pics. Basically the standard stuff, eggs/bacon/more desserts etc.

It's time for cabana! We've got a cabana for both today and tomorrow and I anticipate hanging out at the pool a lot. This will also help with bankroll preservation...

The cabana and the weather is the bomb. We spend the next few hours just chilling, swimming, and drinking. Pretty soon it's around 3:30pm and I'm actually good to stay longer, but my kids are getting kind of tired of the pool and just want to chill in the room. My wife is up for dice, so we call it a day, take the kids to the room and my wife and I head down for a dice session.

I'm in for 5k again and place 6 and 8 for 300$ each. Things start off crap, again, and I'm stuck half my buy in, again. God this is so annoying.

I don't want to shoot, but with the new conditions (less people per table) and other people shooting terribly, what's the harm? So I actually get a few good rolls going, and my wife is the best shooter of the table. Again, we never have a great roll, but a bunch of decent ones. Eventually I lock up my flag again and now I'm playing on profit which is always a good feeling! Once we play through the buy in I'm done like last session- not in a hurry to give this flag back if I can help it.

Post-session chip dump, so I booked ~ 1.5k winner.

At this point I'm up 22.5k on the day, and up 20.5k for the trip!

Rest of Day 4 coming soon...

Dude I tell you, even I look back on things and can't believe it. Have I had cold patches? For sure. Been near-felted plenty of times. But the fact is I have gotten a save or pulled a rabbit out of a hat more times than I can count. I'm just running like god for far longer than anyone could ask for. **** I'll ride this train as long as it'll carry me haha.

Rest of Day 4

We've got about 1.5 hrs before dinner at Costa di Mare. I'm flush with cash now, and my boys have been pretty good about getting themselves ready, so I feel non-negligent in abandoning my wife for another session.

I turbo off about 5k in no time flat. It was legit icy and I'm fearful of donking back too much of my win. Mostly to slow it down, I switch to spin poker which I haven't played much of this trip.

First real draw comes in!

And, bc it's spin, this is worth-

This trip is going to be epic, I can feel it. Comeback after comeback- I'm actually up this session now! Keep going, give some more back, and then-

'Bout time these draws in spin come in! Once with kicker, twice without.

I play on and the ice recommences. Head upstairs to get ready for dinner and book a 2k win for that session.

Costa di Mare

This restaurant is one of our "go-to's" at the Wynn and depending on my mood is my favorite place here. Since BIL and BILG have never been, we're definitely doing the tasting menu, assuming the kids are able to get something else and don't have to also do the tasting menu (usually it's whole table or nothing).

We see several waiters we recognize, and one of them quickly explains our kids will not have to order the tasting menu. My BIL and BILG say, "I guess you weren't kidding when you said you come here a lot" and I said "yeah, there's a reason I have all this comp and it's not bc they like me but bc I'm a degen" or something to that effect.

Amuse bouche, can't remember but some kind of mild fish. 6/10, needed flavor.

Bread basket, overflowing.

Fried sardines and calamari, most for my youngest son who is the more adventurous of the two boys. 6/10.

Octopus. 6/10, preferred their preparation with potatoes from before.

Scallops, 7/10.

Clams, 7/10, 10/10 to dip bread into.

Sheep's milk ravioli, standard 5/10. This has to be my least favorite of all their pastas.

Seafood risotto, 6/10.

Squid ink seafood pasta, 7/10.

Another seafood pasta, this was the best of the bunch. 8/10

My oldest's short rib rigatoni, 8/10.

Unfortunately they won't carve the fish tableside anymore with COVID, but they brought them out so we could see beforehand. We got a snapper and a turbot. I didn't want the turbot but was overruled- there was something about it that I didn't like last time. Oh well. I'll be too full at that point to care anyways.

8/10 on the snapper, 4/10 on turbot, 8/10 elsewhere.

I'm actually happy we got the turbot with another fish, bc I can now articulate what I don't like about it. It has a weird mouthfeel, a little too jelly-like for my tastes. It starts firm which would be fine, but then gives in a very unappetizing way, almost like undercooked chicken. It's not soft, and it's not tender- those are positive things and not what I experienced. In any case, I'm glad I can now say what exactly I don't like about turbot, and as predicted I was already beyond full so it didn't matter anyways.

Full, you say? Time for a "few" desserts!

The "coffee cup" here was made of white chocolate, and had melted dark chocolate at the bottom. I think my youngest ate half by himself.

(Not pictured- the other 6! scoops which were the same as these).

All desserts were a solid 7-8/10, but who can honestly tell at that point. After dinner, my wife, BIL and BILG get into an extended convo with the sommelier. I'm getting antsy so my kids must be. I offer to take them upstairs and meet the adults at my machine. I drop the kids off, head downstairs and resume battle.

It's cold, and I give back 2k pretty fast. Text the rest of the group- they're still talking! I keep playing- give back another 2k. Text again- still talking! WTF. OK, I guess I'll just do my thing as if no one else is around.

Two frustrating hands, same spot, pretty much back to back.

This isn't working. Change to an old school machine.

6th dealt quads or nah bro?

Everyone else finally shows. I'm down 4k for the session. We discuss plans- wife wants craps, BIL wants to partner VP first. I'm getting the sense he's a bit of a cooler, but then I realize if we partner and he drives, I'm going to slow WAY THE HELL DOWN and it's probably going to save me money. So we team up with an 80/20 split and he sits down.

It's a little painful to walk him through pretty much every hand, but in his defense he has zero experience with gambling, poker, poker hands, etc. Keeps calling a flush "all the same house", stuff like that. Not his fault, and honestly I'd be a dick if I held that lack of knowledge against him. We pick up trip aces with a kicker, and I tell him to hold the trips plus the kicker, turn the speed way down for the draw, etc. It's a lot of instruction. He holds the trips, no kicker and I clarify. I think he understands the why, BILG totally gets it. Then he asks why we're slowing the speed down. I tell him these draws don't come along often, this is a top prize we're shooting for, let's enjoy it! Finally, he's ready and hits draw...

And we hit 4AWAK in spot 9! In our collective excitement, I completely forgot to take a pic. Now, finally, he's seen the upside of the game, and wife and BILG got to witness it too. We take the payout in cash to make the math easier and forge on. Pretty soon, we get another premium draw-

Result-

OK, this is starting to make up for all those whiffs!

More cash. More money back to BIL. Two seconds after we get paid-

LOL EZ game. BIL has now hit 10k in jackpot in 10 min. He's ruined for life, obv.

At this point, it appears craps is no longer on the agenda for tonight. It's near midnight. BILG and wife watch a few more min then head upstairs. My BIL continue the partnership, and we never hit another jackpot but two 1k bullets last us a LONG time. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I was able to get in a good session with BIL. I think we can say he's no more a cooler than any of us I'm now winner for the post dinner session as well!

After those two bullets, he heads upstairs and I try to turn an already monstrous day in a huge one. Of course give back 3k turbo style and kick myself a bit on the way to bed.

Day 4 result- +25.5k
Overall- +23.5k

Day 5 coming soon...

I think that one was the snapper. And yes, I guess I did, although I really only focused on the quads. Worst was the one time I threw away all 5 and got a royal on the redeal- I know it's "easier", but the machine can't find a way to just save the redealt royal for the next true deal?

It's typically a fine dining fish, very expensive, it's in the same family as the flounder, and that's what it's referred to as in most places, anything with two eyes on the same side of it's flat body. Used a lot in french cooking.

Actually on 10-play, a "dealt royal" at TDB is easier to pull off than a "redraw royal". Ugh. A redraw royal only happens about 1 in every ~14M total hands of TDB as you tend to hold something a lot (~1.4M rounds of 10-play). A dealt royal would be 1 in every 649,740 rounds on average.

Day 5

We decide on room service for breakfast this morning. Kids aren't up yet, so I get my gamble on. With about a day to go, I have one goal in mind- lock in a win.

This session is cold, and I think I lost 4k. Not a good start!

Forgot to take pics of the breakfast. That last pic was time stamped around 8:30am, and the next pic is from 5:30pm. Clearly, there's a lot that happened between those times so I apologize for the wall of text.

I know after breakfast I check us into cabana, day 2. I'm not really interested in hitting the pool right away; in fact, I'm more interested in gambling. BIL says he's not up for a long day at the pool either and he offers to take the kids to Circus Circus. Wife and BILG head to the pool, I head downstairs and the kids and BIL get ready for their outing.

While I'm playing, and probably bc I'm losing, I quickly have a change of heart. I really should go with the kids to Circus Circus. For one, it's not really fair to dump the kids on their uncle for hours, even though he offered. For another, I haven't done all that much with them here save one trip to NYNY and some pool time. Lastly, and most importantly, if I'm going to preserve this win I'd better get the hell out of this casino, and if I don't and lose more I'm going to be really mad at myself. So I pivot and tell BIL I'm going with them, but not before losing an additional 2k! I'm down 6k for the day so far.

We hit Circus Circus around 11 and are there for hours. Honestly, far longer than I wanted to be, but my youngest is finally tall enough to ride on all the rides, and in the interests of maximizing the all day arm band we basically hit everything. I probably rode on 1-2 more rides than I should have and end up feeling slightly queasy. Of course, we played a ton of ticket games as well (they've made the ball drop game/"printing ticket machine" go away, folks) and grab a bunch of junk. We end up walking thru the casino bc BIL wanted to see it (exactly the dive we know it is, including zero social distancing or plexiglass at the craps table) and soon we're at the front of the casino, staring at a deserted taxi line. Hmmm, that's annoying. We call an Uber- 20 min wait! Man, I am sick of this place and just want to GTFO.

Luckily, a cabbie who had been cruising by saw us and swung around. He's got his AC cranked all the way up and teaches us some interesting hx on the way back, including the fact that apparently under the strip is a huge underground reservoir, more than enough to supply all of LV enough water for a year if needed. Same spring apparently used to feed the fountains at the Bellagio. So contrary to popular belief, the Bellagio fountains are actually honest to god spring water. No idea if true or not, too lazy to verify, but if true very interesting. As many times as I've been to LV I didn't know any of that. Things are looking up!

We finally make it back to the Wynn and I make it to the cabana in time to enjoy one last drink before they close up. It was probably 4pm before we made it back. My wife remarked, "wow, you guys were gone a long time" and I respond with, "yes, and I'm done being a dad for a bit. Your turn. I'm just shutting off for now". I get a double of George T Stagg from the whiskey bar and chill for a while. At this point it's close to 5pm and the kids are back in the room. Time for another dice session with the wife!

We start off in what is now standard for this trip- I buy in for a flag, get 6 and 8 300$ each, and quickly lose half my buy in. And, in just as standard fashion, my wife comes to the rescue! This was actually the best session of the trip so far, on one of my wife's rolls I get 8 built up to 900 (I think I went 300-360-420-600-720-900) and 6 was juiced up as well. Once I got my flag back and again am booking a win, I play off the rest of the buy in and the result is-

I booked a 3k win that session. This pic features some extra chips I had lying around. The main point is, I've still got my flag!

So between -6k VP and +3k craps, I'm only stuck 3k for the day. My wife and I head to VP and it is possibly the most annoying session of the whole trip. I think we got dealt trip aces 3 times and a bunch of other premium trips in quick session, and whiff EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. WTFWTFWTF. I've given my craps win back in lightning fashion and I'm mad. In fact, I'm smashing the buttons on the machine. My wife tells me maybe we should stop to which I reply, "but we've still got time. **** it, play faster!". She very reasonably says if I want to preserve my roll I should quit, but to a gambler on rage tilt we know that's just going to make me more mad. So I pound buttons while she sits there semi-uncomfortably, I pick up three to a royal, yell "watch us phucking miss this draw for like the 1000th time" and we hit-

LOL. Thereby proving my rage play correct. I tell the wife as much and she rolls her eyes.

OK. I'm totally even for that session. NOW I can stop. We've got dinner at Sinatra now.

Sinatra

Honestly, I don't even know why I look at the menu. I get the same thing every time.

Kentucky mule.

BIL and BILG.

Son's lasagna, 8/10.

My veal parm, too much mozzarella despite me telling them to go easy. Normally 8/10, I'd say 6-7 this time bc of the cheese.

White truffle pasta. This made up for the veal parm, usually 8/10 but easily 9/10 this time for some reason.

Of course, we got a ton of other food as well but I forgot those pics. After dinner, I take the kids up and plan on meeting everyone else at the machines as usual. They're actually pretty quick this time, and BIL and I partner again.

And again we get dealt trip aces! BIL has a little more of a clue now; I still have to tell him to hold the kicker, but he gets it pretty quickly.

SAME SPOT AS LAST NIGHT!

Pretty soon, we pick up 3 to a royal. I explain I hit the last 3 to a royal with wife earlier in the day. BIL says "I feel like we get this a lot but never hit it". I explain it's about 1000-1 to come in, so yes we should hit it every once in a while but it's rare.

But not that rare, apparently.

Damn. 8k in jackpot with BIL in 10 min now, and 10k the night before. Whatever else he is, he's not a cooler.

We finish that bullet and go play some monkey slots for a bit. After, we briefly check out the dice tables but they're pretty crowded. Everyone else elects to turn in, and I head for some last night (?standard) heroics?

Not how I was envisioning a handpay from 3 aces.

Interesting but not valuable. 1 to a royal and hit... the wrong end?

It's getting later and later. I'm getting play from the machine, but just enough to make me think the big one is around the corner. Meanwhile I slowly but steadily bleed. I've given back all the money I hit with BIL but I'm still up 3k for the day. No biggie. Let's try UX- I haven't hit anything at all from it this trip.

I was 100% positive I'd hit this before I drew. Not a doubt in my mind. Same draw but for a royal? I know I'd miss.

Give that back and another 1k more. Back to my usual.

Look carefully. Held an ace, got all the 2s on the redraw.

That gives me renewed hope. And it gets later and later...

Later and later... always with renewed hope, but always giving money back.

Last pic of the night.

Well, that was dumb. Final tally- stayed up until almost 2am. Was briefly up to +5k on the day with BIL, gave back way too much money this last session. Honestly, all my "last night heroics" in previous trips set me up on this one. I just had so many visions of another huge night, and there were enough parallels (playing super late, hitting a jackpot just when it seemed like I was done, etc) that I kept going for too long. Ended up - 3.5k for the day, but a -8.5k swing from when I parted ways with BIL. Still going to book a win for the trip, but that was dumb...

Day 5 result- -3.5k
Overall- +20k

Last day coming soon...

Thanks for the clarification. I'm assuming this is roughly correct. Odds of redealt royal = (odds of zero royal cards or anything worth holding being dealt) x (odds of picking up any combo of all 5 royal cards).

I think the reason it "feels easier" is because like most people I just ignore the "getting dealt nothing" portion. Which of course is actually pretty unlikely. Ignoring that and taking it as a given, it then of course is easier the get a redealt royal when 5 **** cards have been removed
