FWIW Warren Buffet doesn't buy stocks, he buys companies. Many times the companies he buys are private and don't even have stock. He buys companies because he's figured out ways to make them more profitable, sometime with synergies with other companies he owns. It's really funny to hear stock market noobies talk about Warren Buffet this and that. There's no way anyone could do the same things because they can't buy the whole company, inject $400 million into it, and make it a subsidiary of another company that they own. Every once in awhile he'll dabble with stocks like he did with Coke, but that's not how he made his billions.

Amazon was a trainwreck that should have ended as a smoking hole in the ground. They just found investors that were willing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars (maybe billions?). It might be unprecedented in the history of the stock market. They also managed to become a cult stock, where people buy it for no good reason. My friend was taking a grad class for his MBA and they held up AMZN as a great business plan in a case study. I had to laugh. At that point they had never made a dollar, only lost hundreds of millions. And then someone had the idea of turning it into a consignment pawn shop where they sold other people's stuff for a commission.

Those same people also attended Woodstock..

And knew about bitcoin when 6 cents a piece...

July Vegas TR

Back story-
We had always planned on a summer trip with our friends in Indiana, lots of kids, cabana, pool etc. These are the friends we take semi-annual trips to Vegas with and they've featured in several previous TRs. Unfortunately, that was before corona...

So sometime in May? the female friend gets stir-crazy and really wants to set up our next Vegas trip. We book as soon as Vegas reopens. Then, the days go by... and eventually I get the text that they'll have to bail. Apparently friends' parents are so worried they'll catch corona that they want them to quarantine 2 weeks after the Vegas trip. That will not work with their work schedule, 4 kids and the fact the friends' parents provide significant amounts of childcare for friends. Looks like they're out... we're still going, obv.

Now, my BIL and his girlfriend have been in Palm Springs since Apr. They mostly live in NY, work remotely and have essentially been avoiding NYC since corona got bad. We've visited with them several times, they have a flexible schedule... they accept our invite and with small changes to the reservations, we're back on in the same fashion as before!

Last piece- my wife has work conferences that she absolutely cannot miss Thurs. We can't fly in Thurs and risk a delay. Looks like we'll be there Wed thru Mon. Uh oh... long trip ahead of me. If I run hot, it'll still be too short. If I run cold, I could lose a TON.

Agenda-

- gamble. Dice + VP with wife, in addition to my solo degen. +/- gamble with BIL and BILG if they're up for it?
- fun with the kids throughout

Day 1

We arrive at an empty airport in San Diego, and whisk thru security. EZ flight to Vegas, flight is 1/3 full. Arrive to empty airport in Vegas, met by limo driver, at the Wynn 15 min after getting bags. If not for the risk of catching viral death, I'm loving corona. Less people, no crowds, etc. This is the bomb.

Home for the next 5 days.

We check in, drop our stuff off in the room and head to Red 8 for a quick bite. Between my excitement at being in Vegas for the first time in 5 months, getting used to scanning a QR code for every menu and trying to make sure my boys stay safe I forget to take pics of both the room and the meal. We've got a double room Parlor suite, and get the usual shu mai/green beans/soft shell crab/ma po tofu at Red 8. Everything is a solid 7/10, maybe bc I haven't had it in months. Afterwards, my wife and kids head upstairs (wife has an early work thing in AM) and I hit my "new machine", the one that gave me the 40k comeback in Jan and was responsible for most of my hits in my +35k Feb trip.

I feed in 1k, 2k then 3k total and hit nothing. Cold. Then, I open the account with a total lightning strike!

Wow. What a turn around. I've opened up this trip in a big way. So big, I decide to go to 2$ credits. Make this a trip for the ages. Plus, it's not like I haven't been coining in 100$ or more at my local recently...

1 hour later. That can only mean one thing. I ran SUPER COLD, donked back a ton of money and decided to use up my free credit. So clearly I turned 2k free credit into 2100+ for more than 100% payback, but I'm sure I was REALLY upset at myself. I try never to use my freecredit until I "need it". I must have needed it. Ugh. Plus now that I look at it I'm at UX, which means I took shots and missed. Bleh.

An hour for me, playing on turbo, means a TON of hands. No pics = run super cold.

Keep going. Not doing too bad, but not up very much either. Then, dealt quads!

I'm just crushing. Of course, it's not all profit bc I'm playing on turbo as fast as I can, but the money just keeps flowing in and it's getting later and later. It's now well after midnight and I'm really tired, but how can I leave? I'm having memories of this machine in Jan 2020 and the exact same set up- late at night, hitting hitting hitting, keep setting stop points, keep hitting jackpots... screw it. I can always sleep in tomorrow. My hopes that I'm going to have another HUGE night are boosted with my SECOND dealt quads of the night.

At some point, I know I mixed in 2$ credits again, with the same crap result. Got several good draws, couldn't make them come in at the 2$ level. Step down to 1$, start turning pairs into premium quads again. Frustrating.

Eventually of course, all good things must end. I played on until after 2am and headed upstairs dead tired, but opening the trip in a HUGE way!

Nice Leon! Hope this ends with everyone healthy and had fun, and you continue on a good run.

I gamble so often they're used to it. It's just daddy playing his games or something like that. It's part of the reason I try and carve out some time for them each day in Vegas (NYNY or Circus Circus, as an example). They're responsible enough we've been able to leave them in the room to play video games or watch movies for some time now anyways.

I'm educating them by teaching them the math and facts of gambling in a cold, objective way. They have some idea of the sums I deal with but only from a kids' perspective, and they know not to share with their friends/that it's not normal. The only thing they don't quite get yet is that casino gaming is negative expectation, bc of my past run good. I have to make sure they know it's not simply just show up and print money.

I started teaching them poker bc it really is the best way to explain any number of concepts- probability, EV, luck vs skill, etc. They're not quite old enough to fully get it but we've started the process.

I can tell you we're back and seemingly well, so I hope that's truly the case. I'll let the TR tell the story of how I ran

Have the comps/freeplay improved since the downgrade from 9/7 to 9/6? I'm curious if they updated the theo assigned to the machines.

Leon, you run so pure! As always, thanks for writing this up and sharing the report. I think I speak for many of us that TRs during these times are even more enjoyable.

Sort of. 9/7 to 9/6 is old news, that was 1.5 yrs ago if I remember correctly. I negotiated additional free play up front which was all I could get. Been getting that and dealing with 9/6 since then. I've grown comfortable with the knowledge I'm giving up EV in exchange for getting to stay at the Wynn with all the comps. I could stay and play downtown or offstrip for quarters but I don't care about that.

Part of Day 2

Short update here- it's all I have in me right now.

I sleep in until about 8am which is pretty good for me. Probably could have slept longer but for once my wife beats me out of bed bc of her work thing, and that woke me up. She orders room service for all of us so I don't even have to go downstairs to get my coffee. I do the responsible thing and stay in the room for my morning routine rather than head downstairs- gotta preserve this win and we've got a long stay ahead of us. I forgot to take pics of the breakfast.

I finally head downstairs around 10am. The plan is I play until my wife finishes her first work engagement, then we take the boys to NYNY and grab lunch somewhere there.





I come out of the gate on fire, and step to 2$ credits.



I remember being really happy here, but also that I got trip aces THREE times at 2$ and blanked them all! I believe at this point I had already been dealt trip aces FIFTEEN TIMES, but man I could sure use them coming in at 2$.

Must have given back that money super fast, bc the next pic is at 1$ credits again... and of course it's dealt quads! THIRD dealt quads of the trip, in less than 24 hrs!

I'm not sure exactly what happened after that, other than I ended up booking a LOSS for that session, -2k I believe. TLDR version- hit at 1$ credits, give money back at 2$.

We head off to NYNY. Turns out the arcade doesn't open until 1pm and we've got about a hour to kill. Some of us are hungry, some not, so we decide to walk around a bit.

This pic says it all. SO, SO, SO weird. As I said, were it not for the chance of viral death I'm loving this. Can't stand crowds. I don't think it would have been possible to take a pic of the strip like this before.

We decide to see if L'atelier Joel Robuchon (the scaled down, cheaper version of the full restaurant) is open for lunch. Unfortunately it's closed, and the best I can do is snap a pic of the full restaurant's menu. It remains one of the best meals I've ever eaten, and I feel it was way more expensive when I went than what this menu shows. I've got to go back, soon.



We end up grabbing a standard, forgettable meal at Wolfgang Puck's, get our arcade on at NYNY, then head back to the Wynn. My wife starts her next business call, the boys chill and I head downstairs for an afternoon session...
