Games should be starting to get good again in September as mentioned early on in this thread because of football. Sports books will be packed and there will be plenty of people gambling on the weekends which is what will help make the games better.

If your shot taking of 2/5 has some run bad, there are a few good deep buy in 1/3 games around town worth playing. The Orleans spreads a 1/3 $500 max buy in game, as does the Wynn/Encore. One is a **** hole, and the other is probably the nicest room on the strip. Both will offer soft games on weekends, especially late at night. Unfortunately neither of those rooms are close to the sports book in their respective casinos (although Encore poker room does have a single sports betting window located inside the room) so during the football games the atmosphere is a little less sports gamboool feeling.

Rooms like Caesers and Belagio are slightly better during prime time sports watching simply due to their proximity to the sports books, practically connected. Belagio 2/5 is a $500 max buy in game so that also will help keep the risk of ruin lower than any of the other $1k-$1500 buy in games that are spread everywhere else.
I know nothing about the specifics of the room yet, but Westgate just remodeled their Super Book sports book within the last 2 years, and it's one of the best action sports venues in Vegas. They have just opened a brand new poker room in an adjoining section of the Super Book and will no doubt have plenty of sports betting gambooooolers floating around. The past couple of efforts for poker here were fairly meh, but all the factors we are looking for for gamboolish, spewy type poker games are most definitely going to be in play if there are actually some games running worth playing. (Heard a rumor that 1/2 is $200 max buy, and if no 2/5 runs there, it could be a dud of a game quite often).

That's my 2 cents as someone who has been gambooolin in every room possible around town for nearly three years now. Good luck, have fun, and feel free to PM for any other questions!

Hey, I know the Wynn room moved, but it's probably not that bad.

The old Wynn room was just around the corner from the sports book. I hope they haven't rooned it.

I also may have overstated how nice the Orleans is...

Where do you play in the netherlands?
Do they rake up to 20 at 2/4!? Pfff...

I play in Eindhoven and Utrecht once in a while.

Thanks! All things combined, sounds like the 500 capped 2/5 game at the Bellagio is the place to play at.

Hi all,

I will step in the plane tomorrow, so it's really going to start now. I have two final questions before I leave:

I was wondering at which places I have to register for the membership programs to receive my hourly comp. If I play at Venetian / MGM / Planet Hollywood / Bellagio / Ceasars Palace. How many different membership programs do I have to enroll?

Second question, what is the best way to register for games and see different waiting lists? I installed the PokerAtlas app but not sure if I can use it to register.

I will follow most advice here. I will start by playing two days of 1/3. Then I will be playing 2/5 the upcoming weekend, until I fall below the 5K bankroll mark. Below 5K I will be playing 1/3 till I am above the 5K mark again. When my bankroll will be above 10K in the final week, I will allow myself two or three shots at 5/10 (buying in for 1K).

Cheers,
David

Make sure to check out Planet Hollywood. It has a fun party vibe and an active poker room. It is just across the street from Bellagio.

You have the bonus of seeing girls dance while you play...

First session

Yesterday I took an Über to the strip at noon. Not having been in Vegas for 5 years and being jetlagged I wandered through Caesars Palace, took a selfie with the David statue and registered for the Total Rewards program. I sat down at a 1/2 game at 13.30 and bought in for $300. I was faced towards the sportsbook and the entrance of Omnia. Just sitting there already made me smile. Walking to the toilets and back, looking around, with the music playing out loud. The great vibe even on a Wednesday afternoon. It feels great being in Vegas again.

I sat next to a Swiss guy so I could practice my German a little bit. For one sentence, until the dealer told us 'English only'. My first hand I 3-bet As4s from the small blind and bet the flop but had to lay it down on the turn. Another hand I double barreled my pocket 5s but had to lay it down on the river. I think I started out a bit too aggressively, especially for a 1/2 game. I bought another 140 in chips to have a stack of 300 again.
Then I got dealt pocket jacks in the hijack. I call a bet of 8, the button and big blind also call. The flop comes 2cJdAh. Opener bets 15 and me and button both call. The turn is the 8d. Opener checks, I bet 40 dollar, only the button calls, quickly. Somehow I have the feeling the 8d helped him and I hope no diamond will come on the river. River: 2d. I check quickly and am disguisted when the button bets 80. I call and he turns over Ad5d. I fold my set face up. Until, after some seconds people notice me I made a full house. I happily stack the chips.
Yeah, it was a messy start.

The Swiss guy also accidentally slow rolled the same man later on after not noticing the runner runner straight he made.
I put the same poor man all in pre flop for his last 120 a couple of hands later with JJ again. He shows KK. I felt a little bad about my move when the flop and turn didn't help. But then... Jack on the river.

What I noticed is a lot of people which seem real Vegas grinders. Playing VERY tight and changing seats and tables all the time. Performing what we call a 'stoelendans' in Dutch. I am wondering how many of these low stakes grinders actually are there in Vegas!?

I had to leave at 19.30 to eat and walk to the Planet Hollywood to see Britney Spears perform... Great show. After 6 hours of play I ended the session up $229.

Tonight I will play 1/3 at the Wynn and buy in for 500.

this makes me happy for you. Sitting in a poker room and casino for so much of my life, I forget sometimes that is can be a thrill, it can be fun!

From what I understand, there are a lot of comp-chasers in LV lowstakes, locals who nit it up and nutpeddle. They know exactly which room has $3/hr vs 2/hr in comps. It never occurs to them to just get better at the darn game and make more money that way. I haven't been to LV in a year, but I semi-remember them in bigger rooms and less so in places like Harrahs (a couple I think) and Flamingo (none cuz it's a dump).

Keep up the rungood

Nah, Harrahs, Flamingo, and Ballys have their promotion grinders. They grind hours to get into weekly or monthly freerolls. You pretty much run into promotion grinders or pro/pro wannabes in Vegas any more, except for 10 to 12 hours on the weekends.

First week

So, I'm 50 dollar up the first week I played 35 hours of poker.

I got a good impression of the poker eco system in Vegas after these hours of play. I'm impressed by the level of play of some of the (professional) players in the 1/2 games. I got outplayed a couple of times. I would really have to bring my game to the next level to be able to beat these games consistently. I should:

- fold when the nits bet
- come over the top when people make a move on me, even shoving my stack when needed
- improve my live reads and being less easy to read myself
- be less spewy in general

I really learned a lot about poker this week and had a lot of fun doing so. Had a lot of nice conversations. Often, peple tell me to try the specific beer they drinking and I happily do. But not too many though.

I will stick to the 1/2 games for some longer, the 300 max buy in ones. No way I am going to play those 2/5 games just yet.

50 dollar a night for a nice airbnb studio. It's quite close to the strip, 10 dollar with Uber. It's working out ok for me.

Maybe there are cheaper rental options, like the Siegel Suites. I didn't really look into them.

The 1/2 game at Golden Nugget downtown has no max buy in and can be fun to get away from the strip

I'm up 400 dollar in the last 14 hours of play. Think I played solid agressive poker. Luck in the bigger pots has not really been on my side yet.

Yesterday got dealt AKo in the small blind. Two limpers, I make it 18. Both limpers call. Flop comes AQ2 rainbow. I bet 35. Both called. River is a 10. Guy on the button just has 60 left. I bet 65. Both players call. River is a 5. I bet 80, other player folds. Button shows KJs for the straight.

My buddy is coming over tomorrow so will play less. Want to start playing 2/5 now though. Hope to get at least two sessions in next week.

Cheers
