op you have to do all the right things to make this happen. LIFESTYLE. Stay healthy - diet , excercise. Get a diversion away from the tables that is enjoyable to you. Get on a routine, or a schedule for playing. Get sleep, GOOD sleep. Good Luck man, good luck.

Again another plug for the CET Race to Rewards promo they're currently doing. It would at least offset some dining costs (in the form of comp dollars since you said you were looking for Total Rewards casinos) if you hit a couple destinations en route to Vegas.

Wow, Polprof....all of this support and encouragement is awsome!

Thousand Tigers has offered freindship in Colorado & Vegas if you get there in time for his next trip, someone else mentioned Dallas area, and now Riverman gets word of you considering some coaching and he steps up right away and offers, very generous. I think you should take Riverman up on the offer.

Of course I'm also going to continue to encourage you towards $2/5 & higher. So much more money to be made, so much more opportunity.

I looked at this offer and it looks doable. One thing I couldn't figure out is if poker was useable for the 25 tier credits per day or not?

You have a good chance of going to the homeless shelter or moving back in with your parents.

My expertise is the human condition, financial systems, finance in general, and cultural norms. By all means take your CASE 4K and roll into Vegas and see what happens.

If you are the type who is willing to live on the streets and eat out of trash cans, instead of getting extra credit now while you can so that you will have shelter if you bust, then you are the type who might enjoy living with rats.

Those same banks were involved in FRAUD, whether people here want to admit it or not. They have all paid fines in the hundreds of millions for their activities. So, if you think that by going down in flames without securing lifelines is the way to go, then you do not understand the rules of the game.

You are the sucker in life. You have to know the rules of the game.

I'm pretty sure everyone who has ever succeeded in life has probably heard some version of your first three paragraphs over and over. Thanks for the motivation.

This is not the place for some political view to derail the thread.

Also we don't advocate anything illegal here.

Also, people, attn to detail! The 4k does NOT include life roll!

OP, if you want some inspiration about middle age dude taking control of his life and fighting back, watch Breaking Bad. You can become the Walt of poker.

Cheers,

S

PolProf-

Kudos to you sir. You're embarking on a journey that I can only daydream about at this point in my life (mid 40's, married, 2 kids, home, good job/income, etc.)

I can only live vicariously through your posts, so keep us informed on your progress - I am really interested in hearing how you fare. You sound like a smart guy with a solid plan, and can probably pass on the temptations of Sin City (i.e hard boozing, drugs, hookers, pit games, sports gambling, etc.).

Don't listen to the young pricks on this thread who want to discourage you. Maybe you succeed, maybe you fail - but at least you will try.

Play smart, and good luck to you sir!

So good to see everyone supporting you. I find it awesome that you're going for it in your 40s. I'm behind you as well. It'll be interesting to read about the road trip before actually arriving in Vegas.

Also lol @ "7pm - Blazing drunk .. move to 1/3 table and declare in a loud voice 'donkey comin in!' then stack their asses."

PolProf someone may have said this, if so I'll add a +1. A cross-country trip should not be rushed. Vegas is hot and harsh and may be lonely if you don't have a base of friends there already. Why not meander a bit, and stay at KOA's? Kampgrounds of America have showers and bathrooms and usually are cheaper than a Motel 6. All you'll miss is tv. The Midwest has many casinos with $1-$2 games. Why not see Bryce Canyon, Zion, maybe the caverns on the New Mexico border, the Arizona Meteor Crater, etc. on the way? Perhaps get a buddy to come out to one or two of those? Just a thought.

To whoever said groceries are expensive: foodwise, you can live anywhere for almost nothing if you have to once you get over the American model of eating. Good rice, good beans, and good flour cost very little at CostCo. E.g., $14 for 50lbs of flour, $13 for 20lbs of basmati rice, < $1/lb for black and red beans. Add some tortillas, spices, get a lime tree, and grow jalapenos, cilantro, and a few other herbs, and you'll be set. Plus for your "big" meal you will have enough comps from playing to eat a decent sandwich, etc. If you can just get a roommate you can stand, making meals becomes a highlight of the day.

Good luck Prof!

btw in case you didn't know this, Aria will give you free carrot juice and watermelon juice while playing. Quality varies but hard to beat that for free drinks. Bellagio still has excellent cappuccinos in their free beverage service.

My favorite cheap place for fun in Vegas is the Pinball Hall of Fame at 1601 E Tropicana. Entry is free, and all the old games cost just a quarter. The Royal Flush machine is addictive.

10 hours of poker play at Bellagio will almost get you enough to afford a hot dog at their God-awful snack cafe just past the sports bar. And I'm not even sure if Bellagio comps work there. I go to the buffet or to Noodles. Small tip: if you get in line at the buffet at 3:45 mid-week, they are setting out the dinner buffet choices as you are paying the $20 lunch buffet price rather than the $35 dinner price. Same with Aria.

Trying to decide between a pre Vegas trip to cherokee or jacksonville fl. Haven't played at jax. Anyone have any experiences there ?

I played in Jax recently. Great room with plenty of action. You've looked through the thread on here, right? I think there are several BestBet rooms in Jax, so make sure you go to the new one, which is on Monument Rd. Good luck!

+1 for Florida. Games are often great there. Don't ignore the small casinos. Total degen crowds at those sometimes, and easier games than Vegas in general.
