I played that stupid un-capped $1/2 nl game at the Golden Nugget today. OMG, its a 10 handed table -very uncomfortable, all the stories of thousands and thousands of dollars in this little "un capped" game apparently are just stories because I didn't see a stack over $600 on any of the tables,...but its the smoke! Its an old Casino, and prolly the nicest one downtown -if thats saying anythying, but obviously they didn't have an air handler/exchange/ventilations system. The walls, floors, ceiling all seem to be inpregmated w/ nasty 30 year old smoke...and the air was the worst I had every tried to breathe.
Sooooo.....if anyone gets the "hot tip" that I got to go play the low stakes un-capped game at the Nugget remember the grass isn't always greener. I lasted about an hour, which was about 30 minutes more than I need to make up my mind.
Like games anywhere, it's hit or miss. When it's good, it can be the best low/mid game in town.
What's _really_ good is during the WSOP they sometimes get a 2/5 going. last summer I watched it for about an hour before sitting, and it was the best game I'd ever seen, by a good margin. There were 5 stacks of over $4000 on the table, and 2 more around $2000. Straddles and blind raises every hand, and the pay was stunningly bad. After I saw about the 27th $600+ pot get dragged by a flopped 2nd pair v. a busted 8 hi fd (or equiv) I sat.
I bought in for $800, telling myself "ok, all I have to do is avoid the run bads, and Ima gonna make a car in this game."
Twelve minutes later, I was sitting in my rental car, replaying the hand that saw my KK get it in three ways (1 covered, 1 med) v. 99 and KJo (really), and seeing the 9h in the window. I wasn't rolled to get coolered 5 or 6 times in that game, so I slunk back to the strip...but it was a great one.
It is pretty smoky in there though...
