Anyone know of good room rates on the strip the weekend of March 21-24?
Even the crap hotels like Harrahs are $200+ per night that weekend.
Is this just because of spring break, or something else going on then?

Last year (in August) I got a room at TI for $200 total for the entire 3 night stay.

----------------------------------
edit - or does March Madness really double rooms rates up and down the strip???

Yes. August is always much cheaper than March especially on the weekends.

Also if you have a players card of any kind, phone the hotel directly and ask for VIP and see what rate they will give you. Usually cheaper than booking online.

atm the best rates you are going to find on the strip that weekend are Hooters at about 120 average or Tropicana at $160 average. Not the greatest options but.... You could also try avoiding either one Friday or Saturday booking or both as weekdays aren't too bad at that time.

games will be fine BUT it will not be the same pandemonium as the insanity of the first weekend when every goofball is in town supporting their team

I would assume it's a max BI and the game is still table stakes.

Ahh... I'd totally go first weekend if possible but the guys I'm going with want to go as late as possible because they love the pool day club scene and more pools will be open by then apparently

Are we expecting a modest LV poker surge when non disputed FTP accounts get returned this month (supposedly)?

If I was a recreational player who got a decent amount of money back, I would wait until the series if I was going to spend the money on poker.

Thanks for reply. Hooters appears to be the consensus pick among my group.
Not my favorite, but I guess better than spending double that at another gimmick hotel like NYNY or whatever.

British, basketball fish, Vegas noob. Arriving in Vegas on March 22nd and staying for 10 nights.

Why is it that there's so much talk of march madness and it's so hectic in Vegas during it, even though from what I've found (googled) there are no ncaa basketball games IN Vegas?

CAVEAT: I've never actually been in Vegas for March Madness.

March Madness is a big deal USA-wide. From Thursday through Sunday, there are 48 games over four days, and there are up to four games going on at any one time. It's awesome, and unlike any other sports event on our calendar.

And in Vegas, that means nonstop chances to gamble on teams you know nothing about other than the fact that this one is an 11 seed and that one is a 6 seed. The first weekend of March Madness is legendary for upsets and exciting games. This provides unparalleled degening opportunities, and Vegas is the only place you can really bet on college sports in America (I think). So people make a long weekend of it and come out here.

March Madness in Vegas is a blast. I go every year with a group of buddies for the sweet sixteen weekend. This happens to be the same weekend you are there. There are only 8 games over the course of this weekend as compared to the 32 games opening weekend.

I can't wait. I mean vegas with best friends, watching & betting on basketball, and not to mention long sessions of poker.

The Boulevard Mall and the area between the Strip and Blvd Mall is pretty famous Vegas gang territory. On the other side of the Mall further from the Strip where I think you're talking about it ain't so bad. I think that area is something of an enclave of not-so-bad surrounded by OMG-don't-go-there. I think it's one of those "used to be a really nice neighborhood back in the day" areas.

But I could be wrong--I don't go there. This is just my perspective from peering over the railroad tracks. (I do very rarely drive through the Mall and on toward the east and the area gets decidedly nicer once you pass the Mall.)

Mayo & bdywax thanks a lot. Hyped for this, gonna do some research on college basketball and definitely bet on some games while I'm out there.
Any suggestions on best sportsbooks (+ best free drinks service)? Staying at the Aria, I've heard their sportsbook is quite big with a big screen n everything but what's the deal with free drinks, how often do they bring then round/is it only one per bet?

At Aria you need drink tickets, which you get when you're betting a reasonable amount (if memory serves, it's one ticket per $100 bet).

Oh wow, not quite the same free drink service as the casino then. Oh well no matter. Not going to vegas to nit it up

The Aria sports book wasn't that great imo. Dark, comparatively smaller than others and it had a weird angular design. I thought Bellagio and Mirage provided a far nicer sports books experience.

Caesars is big, beautiful, and across from the mesa grill ( great food and a massive tequila list )

You totally misspelled "the whole casino except for the poker room is dark, boring, inpersonal, and feels like an empty cavern."

The hotel rooms and poker room are great but the casino floor is one of the worst in Vegas imo. It feels like one should be in a business suit.
So for business meetings check out the Aria. Then it's perfect.
