It seems to me there's a question of degrees here. Why wouldn't you ask for the rake reduction when possible? Of course getting upset if it isn't allowed is silly too.

Hey guys. Which is the correct thread to ask for general advice on lodging when heading to Vegas for a month or so?

Have been doing my research in this subforum on where I'd like to play, so mostly looking for advice on where to stay. Should I ask in the general discussion thread, the hotel thread, somewhere else? Didn't want to create a new thread for what looks like a common question.

If this is the correct thread, I'm looking for advice on hotel vs airbnb vs VRBO vs craigslist room, given these criteria:

1. Planning to stay about a month, maybe two if I'm having fun.
2. Reliable internet access is mandatory.
3. Will work during the day from wherever I am so a desk / kitchenette is nice.
4. Will goof off at LLNL and small tournaments during the evenings and weekends.
5. Preferred lodging budget is around $2k/mon, willing to go to $3k for easy walking to the good LLNL rooms.
6. Perfectly willing to ship a hotel person a few hundo to get a sweet deal on a sick monthly rate.
7. Being anywhere near a halfway decent grocery store would be nice if feasible.
8. Would prefer to just walk everywhere, but willing to rent a car if it makes more sense.
9. Don't mind bouncing around different places once or twice if necessary.


Things I have no interest in:
1. Drinking / partying / nightlife
2. Pit games / sportsbetting / degen stuff
3. Strip clubs etc

Things I don't know if I should care about:
1. Poker rates
2. Whatever I don't know to ask you guys about


Basically I'm just looking to chill in Vegas for a month or so with easy access to decent low limit games, enjoy some of the silly tourist stuff like Battlefield Vegas, maybe hang out with some 2p2ers. I'm not moving there to become a grinder or anything like that.

Apology accepted, however first of all there would have to be cocktail waitresses present in order to get rejected. The V is still trying to figure out that first step.

But that wasn't even the problem, I couldn't really give a crap about cocktail waitresses or free drinks (which by the way, The V sportsbook offers none. They don't even give out drink tickets anymore). No, my gripe more has to do with the costomer service at the counter. i.e. Lines that stretch all the way past the Asian noddle with only one person working the counter and two jag offs standing behind him doing nothing, wrong/inaccurate lines displayed on the board (you rarely get the line at the window as you see in the board since the board updates on a long delay), crappy attitude of the attendants (you say thank you after you get a ticket, you rarely ever get a response), multiple system outages (when I was there on a busy college Saturday, they couldn't offer second half lines.

But i digress, you mentioned cocktail waitresses. Well, there has to be one there in the first place in order to comment on them.

The Venation casino is going downhill fast due to ****ty management. I made it known to them when I left last time that i would no longer be giving them my business.

Did you tell Sheldon Adelson to go **** himself while you were there? I don't understand why you guys patronize that place.

I have no idea who that is. And I won't be paying to stay at that hotel again or use thier sportsbook, however i will still play in some of the deepstack tournys when I visit.

Below is the actual comment I left in thier post-visit survey they send out:

"This was definitely the worst part of my stay and probably why I will never stay at your hotel again. First of all, the staff’s attitude is indifferent at best. They rarely say thank you or good luck, and when I say thanks after they give me my ticket I rarely get a response. Secondly, the way they display the lines for sports sucks. It is disorganized, and the lines are rarely accurate. It seems like there is a 15 to 30 min lag when line changes get on the board. So frequently when you go make a bet, the line will be different then what you saw on the board. Third, for the Nov 2 college football games, the system was broke and they didn’t offer halftime lines. I find this unacceptable for a major sportsbook and is actually the second time I have seen this happen at the Venation. Finally, they never have enough people working the counters during the busy times on football days (halftime, in between games, etc.). Several times the line starched from the counter all the way around to the casino floor by the Asian Noodle restaurant. A lot of the times only one person would be working the counter when the line was this long. What is worse, is that there would be 2 or 3 people milling around behind the guy at the counter doing god knows what, but showing no concern about the line or serving people. It got so bad at times that people in line started heckling the staff. Several time if I wanted to get a bet in on time, I had to literally run over to the Palazzo and use the sportsbook stand there. I realize that the sportsbook is a low priority for most casinos considering the money it brings in compared to other games. But I know casinos still have it to bring in guests to stay at their hotels who will hopefully play other games such as the slots, poker, or table games. I am that prime example. Unfortunately, due to the horrible experience I had at your sportsbook, I will be staying at Aria during my three times a year Vegas visits. "

Doesn't Venetian outsource their sportsbook?

It's ran by Cantor, however that doesn't absolve the Venetian of hosting a quality sportsbook within their casino. It was their choice to go that direction, so now they are stuck with a company running their sportsbook that doesn't really give a **** how they treat their customers and how that may reflect on the hotel. Everything that sportsbook does reflects directly on that establishment, and I will hold them accountable just the same with my pocket book just as if they ran it themselves.

I am against Adelson's position on Internet poker.

But the only thing I see not playing there doing is making oneself feel better. It certainly isn't getting his attention.

Personally, I generally separate the positions of individuals and the positions of businesses they own or run. I admit in someways this just makes my life easier but to give you an example, consider Chick-Fil-A. Their CEO took a position against gay marriage. I didn't agree but didn't change my habits as he was just an individual with an opinion. But then he had a "eat at Chick Fil A in defense of marriage day" or some such. That's when I quit eating there.

If the Venetian poker room has taken a stance then I would feel motivated to stop giving them my business. But until then I don't see the point of depriving myself of a room I like with nice staff and a location that is convenient when the business hasn't taken a position and I am certain all of the revenue from the poker room for the next hundred years is below Adelson's notice.

to be honest john... the online gaming thing is still very lite in my humble O.

the player pool is still just to small and we need that INTER state gaming before I will reload online anytime soon. of course ROW is ideal... the south americans are horrible at poker.

+1, i have tried playing on up and wsop and have quickly gone back to bodog after only playing a couple of hours on each. I may reload on wsop leading up to the series if they have decent satellites scheduled.
