This is not the TR you're looking for...(8/27-30)

Look, I learned my lesson last time, live trip reports are impossible. Maybe one in a hundred actually lives up to the billing and the other 99 peter out at varying rates but usually its somewhere right after Day 1 people start to wonder if your corpse is lying in the tunnels somewhere. They are hard work and if you're busy, you know, actually enjoying Vegas, they just dont happen. So I wasnt even going to try this time.

So I took a lot of random notes, took a few pics and took zero hand histories - happy to answer any questions where I can.

Thursday - DCA to LAS

Shoes packed

Cash packed

Uber pickup right on time, absolutely no one in the PreCheck line at National.

Sun coming up

Five Guys breakfast sandwich, I dare you to find better....

On a trip to Africa a couple years ago I invested in Global Entry and having PreCheck is probably the best travel money I've spent, its just amazing. Uber is a close second, with the price of parking at the airport, its really not that much more cash either.

Front of the bus, worth the upgrade

Middle of the flight was very bouncy. Pilot said he was going to have to slalom through a couple of severe storms and he wasnt kidding - storm track after showed just how bad they were:

Grand Canyon shots

Still managed to land reasonably on time. Pickup with Presidential Limo who I've probably used @ 20 times by now and never had an issue. Headed over to Bellagio where there was only a minor checkin snafu. Initially they had told me it was coded so that I could check-in in the VIP lounge, shocking, that never happened. Waited for @ a half hour in the invited guest line but it was fine - for an average nightly rate of $0.00 - I'm fine with waiting.

Room was nice, pretty standard room I guess, nicely appointed, view of the pool. And no coffee maker. Seriously Vegas, get your act together already. Even Paris has started adding them to their upgraded rooms. Anyway didnt spend too long here, had to rush out to Westgate to meet up with my Supercontest proxy and get signed up.

The Westgate was pretty much exactly how I thought it would be. Which is to say, I'm glad I didnt spent too much time here. Contest signup took @ 15 minutes and I am super happy I wasnt the guy behing me in line - I'm not sure I could go through the contest as #666.

I'd like to say I hung around Westgate for a while but truth was I couldnt wait to get out of there. BTW a quick shoutout to @VegasMatty though, runs a great proxy service for the Supercontest and he and Toni were really easy to deal with. Grabbed a cab to Caesars and spent a while wandering around the shops to see if there was anything I couldnt live without. Usually end up buying something nice for the wife so I was scouting out for that too. I really look at it as an investment in my future trips, really guys, this works!

Took the escalator upstairs and had lunch at Sushi Roku. I think I was the only one eating lunch there - it was @ 2p I guess by that time. But they sat me *right* next to another table of four louder guys having a business meeting. Seriously why do restaurants do this? Anyway, I'm almost certain that 1 or 2 of them were managers for Janet Jackson and they were talking about bringing her in for a residency next year - (rolleyes). Lots of talk about how great a shape she is still in and how she can still "mostly" dance. Awesome, cant wait to line up for tickets...

The food itself was fantastic. Overpriced but...sort of in line with "Vegas pricing". Sake, one app, two orders of sashimi and a roll rang in at right @ $100.

Unfiltered Sake

Blue Crab Tartar ($36)

Baked Lobster Roll ($20)

Walked back to Bellagio to unpack and just chill for five seconds. I'll probably say this more than once, but Bellagio is absoultely jam packed with people at all hours of the day. Guests walking around, people milling through, people stopping to take pictures - its a freaking zoo. Its the only downside I could find to staying there - but again, for $0.00, I lived. Had a $300 resort credit to use as well which I would easily burn through.

Plan for the rest of the night was tramming it over to Aria. Its definitely super convenient to be able to do that but again, its not quick. From the room elvators you walk all the way back through the casino, through the jam packed lobby, past the spa/shops to the tram - then reversing the process at Aria. Probably close to a 20 minute jaunt.

As it turns out, this would be the most fun session of the weekend. In $1,000 - out $1,800.

@ an hour before cashing out

Man purse next to me - fantastic. I'd make fun but I kind of wish I had something like this.

But the game itself was just a great time, good mix of a couple local guys and tourists like myself. Amazingly good cocktail service and great, great dealers. Fun, amazing, great - remember those words when I get to describing playing at Bellagio...

Played until 11p or so. Decided at that point I was going to head back. East Coast time was catching up with me and I knew from previous experience that no matter how tired I was I would be up early anyway.

Friday coming later tonight...

Re: This is not the TR you're looking for...(8/27-30)

Friday

As I figured, I snapped awake at 5a. Which actually for me, is not bad. First morning after an East Coast flight is usually brutal. Tried like hell to get back to sleep but it just wasnt happening. Threw on some clothes and headed to the gym for a quick workout. The gym opened at 6 and it is pretty decent for a big hotel gym, lots of treadmills and other cardio equipment and it all seemed to be newish. Actually a few more people in the gym that early than I thought would be there. Only spent 45 minutes or so.

And in retrospect I probably should have figured out the spa/shower situation but I was too lazy. Instead I did the room -> gym -> room/shower -> breakfast -> room -> pool -> room walk two days in a row. No wonder I was sick of walking around the place.

Per usual, Cafe Bellagio was pretty decent for breakfast. I wish they'd put a sign at the front that you could just walk up to the counter because it was always wide open and the first day I waited for ten minutes in line to find that out. My bad. Food was good and @ $20 each day for breakfast and coffee. They were also happy to give me a fresh coffee in a to-go cup each day. Quick good food with good service for a reasonable price - 5 stars in my book.

Had a reservation for the Cypress Pool Friday and Saturday and planned on getting there right at 9 to spend the whole morning. Funny thing was that right after 8 or so I was in my room watching the regular pool open and people were literally running to save seats. Most people were putting 3-4 towels/magazines out and then just leaving. By 820 you could look out and 75% of the seats were already taken. By noon when I left the Cypress Pool each day, there were absolutely no seats available and people just standing around hoping someone would leave. It was a mess.

Quiet corner of Cypress Pool

Green Sapphire -> icy cold and refreshing

Anyway, the Cypress Pool was awesome. Super comfy lounge chairs, great poolside service, much quieter and free smoothies each morning, very very quiet spot...just a complete A+. Extremely relaxing start to the day.

Free smoothies!

Nice thing was that when you leave they save your spot for the whole day, so you can come back and forth without having to leave crap there to save your seat - plus not being worried about other people snagging it. Cost was $100 on Friday, $125 on Saturday - and I think markedly cheaper other days. Yeah, its not free but IMO it was worth it.

Was heading to Mandalay Bay for the Randy Houser show later so I decided to grab dim sum at Noodles for a late lunch. Great food as always but again, if you have a counter and its wide open - why do you make people wait in line? I tried just rolling to the front and politely asking and the hostess pointed me to the line. So, fine, waited in line for ten minutes, and finally was walked to the back where I was the only one at the counter. UGH. Has to be a better system than that especially at a place that is not offering a priority line of any kind for Mlife levels or invited guests (Cafe Bellagio does this). Not sure what the solution is but there has to be one.

Headed down to Mandalay Bay for - as it turns out - a very short stay. I've always loved the MB casino so had a quick craps session - in $1,200, out $1,400. Was so close to having a great session but the last two rolls had three points ($20 + max odds) when the 7 came. Brutal.

Noticed for some reason that MB was really more crowded than normal. The concert was one thing but its not like the beach area is huge and could accommodate that many people. Turns out when I left that there was some sort of festival across the street/South of MB. I'd say the crowd was a combo Burning Man / Harley type crowd but for the life of me I had no idea what it was. So I thought the show started at 9, turns out it did but the doors opened at 8 and it was a madhouse when I got out there. Stayed for a couple of Dustin Lynch songs and then rolled out. Ticket was free and just wasnt worth hanging around in the zoo. Saw Randy play last December at Mirage and he was great so I was OK with cashing in early tonight.

Back to Bellagio and thought I'd play 2/5 for a while before going to bed and was too tired to go "all the way" back to Aria. But a new 20-40 O8 game was staring and with a kill it made it worth a look. Bad, bad call. Not even sure how to writeup these two sessions.

O8 - the game was like playing in a home game - only I was the 1/9 players who didnt know each other, play together every day and get all of the absolutely knee-slappingly hilarious inside jokes. I lasted maybe 90 minutes before I just couldnt take it. Want to be clear, they were all super nice, it just was not the game for me. At one point, three guys were on their cell phones talking and playing at the same time.

Plus - the first two dealers had no idea what they were doing. Misdeals, trouble chopping the pots, an impossibly tough time figuring out when it was a kill pot - just a complete mess. But again, it was a locals game so the players basically ran the entire thing and told the dealer what to do. Super nice players, good action but I would never play it again.

Also - this particular table was next to the back host stand and had a chance to listen to two particular floors dealing with customers for the whole time. Put it this way, if I owned a business, I wouldnt want either one of them in a customer service capacity.

2/5 - In the three hours I played 2/5 I saw:

- One guy working on his laptop and talking into his bluetooth at the same time. Dealer never said a thing even though he had to be reminded EVERY SINGLE TIME that action was on him.

- Cash being allowed to play for almost a half hour. Guy had $300 underneath a stack of red. Players all said wait a minute. Dealer said hey nothing I can do, I called for checks but they arent coming. Players were told how much cash was there but the floor nor the dealer was interested in remedying the situation. Just unbelievably lazy dealer/floor work here. Would have taken the floor or player 2 minutes to walk to the window.

- One cocktail server sighting in over an hour, turns out she was the ONLY ONE working the room. The only one. I asked her if she was taking orders and she huffed (literally, huffed) "I have to start ALL THE WAY OVER THERE and come back..." and she walked off.

The floor then had almost a fight with a player who asked about it. Player said hey can you help us out? Floor - I called to the back bar, she is coming over. After he walks away, dealer says "that guy is full of s***, he never called anyone, he's just a lazy f***" Awesome, lazy floor and pissy dealers crushing on them after they walk away. Great morale in the Bellagio poker room!

Overall, even if I am staying at the Bellagio - I would never play here again. The difference in attitude, service and professionalism from dealers to floor to servers between Aria and Bellagio was quite literally, unbelievable.

Headed up around 1a or so I think.

Will get Sat/Sun up tomorrow...

Awesome TR! Keep it coming. Perfect mix of details and pics! Do you send a link to thread to the wife to keep her reassured that you are not going too wild?

I agree with you about Bellagio. It's a great hotel but is over rated based on just being too crowded all the time and the poker room was once great but the staff is definitely the letdown there. Are they all unionized and too comfortable or something?

How long is the trip again?

Re: This is not the TR you're looking for...(8/27-30)

Saturday AM

I think Saturday I was up even earlier, had to wait for the gym to open at 6. Treadmills have new tvs built in, tried to take a pic as I was running - pretty genius idea, what could possibly go wrong.

I never spend long in the gym in Vegas, no more than a half hour, but its a good way to wake up. I've tried running outside before but its just absurd. You cant run more than 30 seconds before having to go up an escalator, across a road, around a group of strollers etc. So its just easier to do inside.

Breakfast/pool repeat. Again, cant recommend the Cypress Pool enough for couples. Did see a guy pull a total dick move though - thankfully I was leaving @ 10 minutes before this happened. He and his wife had reserved lounges and "invited" their son, his girlfriend and two other friends to join them to just "hang out". Good way to save some cash I guess.

When I got back to the room, definitely noticed that there is an awesome villa of some kind with its own pool and lawn. A bit out of my reach lol.

Once again I cant stress how early all of the normal pool chairs are full, by the time I went down at 9a or so there were couples/families walking around who were unable to find 2 chairs together. Not sure how many lounges there are at the pool but again, its a 4,000 room hotel. If you're planning on coming during the summer, just something to keep in mind.

On the way back from breakfast stopped off for a little VP time which ended better than it started.

Dim sum for lunch again only at least I remembered to take some pics this time.

Baked duck pastry - started scarfing them down before I could take a pic

Crabmeat and spinach - delicious

Baked bbq buns - good but I wouldnt repeat.

Steamed bbq buns - these were the best, I think I ate two orders each day. The buns were so soft they were just amazing.

I'm thankful in Northern Virginia that we (apparently) have a huge number of locals-type dim sum places. Going to have to get out and check some of them out soon. If anyone has first hand knowledge - let me know!!!

Re: This is not the TR you're looking for...(8/27-30)

Saturday afternoon I decided to walk the Strip so that I could at least say I spent some time outside. The pedsestrian bridge to Caesars has become a legitimate strip mall in its own right. Two people selling water, one selling beer - not at all sure how - one selling sunglasses and another running 3 card monte. For two properties like Bellagio and Caesars I would think that...its just not a good look. Plus it makes it impossible to walk anywhere.

Had decided to buy my wife an ipad so I slogged over to the Apple store and braved the crowds there. I will say that moving people in and out of there - rapidly - is something they have really perfected. Every salesperson has a little mobile sales unit, someone else brings it from the back, boom boom, on your way. Spent no more than 5 minutes in there and walked out with exactly what I had been looking for.

Barely made it to the Mirage before deciding I would rather be playing poker than walking around the Strip, so I headed back to Bellagio. Had previously stated I would never play here again...right...but as I was walking by they were starting a new 2/5 game. Unfortunately after 8 hours or so I went from $500 to $1100 to $300....bru---tal....

I had planned on grinding out the whole night but the following situation came up and I just lost my cool.

Started out when a super-reg (buddies with every dealer, talking about inside jokes with everyone that will listen etc) started to argue with a normal tourist guy. SR (2 seat) and T (4 seat) had been involved in 3 or 4 hands over the course of a half hour or so with T taking down all 4 pots and twice showing terrible hands. I'm next to T in the 5 seat and we're just making small talk, like me he's a pretty quiet guy, playing just about every hand over the course of the night but clearly just out to have a good time.

Naturally, SR proceeds to just passive-aggressively BERATE THE S*** out of him after every hand. Youre so dumb lucky or maybe youre just dumb, do you even know how to play poker, you know live poker is a little different from internet poker etc etc - I mean JFC, this went on after every hand. Even when SR wasnt in the hand he was on his ass. IMO T would have been completely justified in calling the floor - or punching this guy in the face, either way. But nope, he finally just calls floor, asks for a table change, racks up $1,200 or so and goes to sit at an empty table.

The entire table was pissed and I lost my s*** at SR. I am sure I went a little overboard at that point but it was late and I had seen enough of this guy. And at that point I racked up my $300 and left. Man I haven't been that hot in a while and I wasn't even drinking. I probably could have handled myself better in retrospect.

Seriously, why do you SR's insist on being assh***s like this? Does it make you feel better to think you are somehow superior to every other player at the table? Do you think I really care how many hours you play a week or how many dealers you know or how many times you've creepingly hit on the waitress?

Or do you think what I really care about is when you chase the spewtard fish from the table who was 99% certain to give back all his chips? You guys are all assh***s.

I'm out.

It was probably @ 2a at this point so I kicked on over to the Baccarat Bar to grab a glass of bourbon and head up to the room. True to form, there were @ 147 hookers working that night.

Approximately.

BTW I would like to clarify in my previous post, I obviously do not think all SR are a-holes, only the ones that continually act like it.

Sunday

BTW the Mets were f'n losers again f'n yesterday. F-you Mets. Lifelong Sox fan that got crushed two days in a row for fading them, they piss away an entire season, cant win a game all year and they somehow take two in a row...

F-you.

Look, up early for the gym was only going to last so long. Slept through gym time and decided to just head to breakfast @ 7. Wanted to catch the Man U game before my flight and the new tables in the sportsbook were perfect. Spent longer than I had planned on some bartop VP in order to grab another coffee...

Definitely cool to see that they have taken a lot of the horse betting seats, put in some more comfy couches/chairs and installed a few of these smart tables with tvs built in. Took a couple pics on Sat when no one was around.

Unfortunately Man U blew an early 1-0 lead and I hate leaving on a sour note. But I left, as I usually do, with a fistful of outstanding bets for Week 1 NFL/NCAA action so maybe I have a late gift coming yet.

Overall, a super relaxing trip. The Bellagio really was a great place to stay. Although I have to give the poker a big downgrade over last time, the combination of location and free room is too much to pass up. Yeah, its definitely crowded at all times of day but if you can overlook that, its worth it.

Solo trips for me are very very rare and being able to just chill and not have 6-8 guys to wrangle around was a welcome change.

Agreed ,op short selling himself unnecessarily. How much did you bring for gambling op impressive stack of 100s unless have other denominations in there like MYCOUSINVINNY . Don't think that's your case. Sounds like a bad time to come to vegas being so reg infested maybe need to table select more. Did you berate sr for causing fish to rack up? What was his response? Gl on the rest of your trip.

Re: This is not the TR you're looking for...(8/27-30)

Initial bring was $8k, had a small line at Bellagio I could have tapped into if needed.

In retrospect I'm not proud of the fact that I got on his case, I could have handled myself better. I said something about him having taken $1500 cash off the table and I hope he enjoyed grinding out his free buffet. To be fair, we had previously been having a discussion about how a dealer at B had "guaranteed" him that they would never go to $1/hr comps like the Venetian and that it makes a difference to guys like him grinding out the free buffets. I was a dick, I should have just walked away - but I was pissed.

FWIW it was a pretty hilarious discussion about the comp situation. SR and friend of SR were telling us that (name) had told them that they would no doubt be maintaining $2/hr in comps because of how important the SRs were to the company. I said oh is that floor guy him (name) - oh no, turns out the guy they were talking about is just a dealer who "knows what there is to know".

Just got another similar offer from B for the rest of the year, hoping to get back in December. But given the number of offers they send out I'm hoping for one that has a couple of UFC 194 tickets attached.
