I know this is redundant and this may not be the proper forum. If so let me know and I'll go to the right place.

Going to Vegas for the first time in act week of August. Staying at Excalibur. Need recommendations for best place to play 1/2 NL. Softest games, best rake, best comps, etc. Planning to play 1/2 and would prefer 6max but ring is ok too. Would also like to play 2 or 3 MTTs with less than $100 buyin. Would appreciate any and all input

You will not find 6max, they will all be 9 or 10 handed. I don't think you'll find a big difference in comps at 1/2. Some places like Aria give higher comps but it's 1/3. It will come down to what you want to use them for, so look for restaurant options you like. Venetian might still be letting you use comps for tournament buyins so that's another option.

Get the Bravo app on your phone, it will tell you which rooms have multiple 1/2 and what their tournament schedules are.

Check out pokeratlas.com for comp, tourney, and room info. Softest games is such a speculation because any room can vary from table to table and night to night. With that said, maybe some of the lower tier Caesars properties such as linq and Bally’s may have more tourists at 1/2, but you also may have to deal with donks that get lucky.

I"ll piggyback on to this thread and ask what people's favorite daily MTT's are. I'm up for anything up to $200 or so. I know pokeratlas has listings but I wanted to see what everyone's favorite regular MTT was. I see a deepstack at Venetian and a $140 tourney at Aria that both look pretty good.

Do people still use Poker Atlas? Thought that kind of died before the Linq poker room died a couple years ago.

Excalibur has $2/hr comps. On the downside, you are limited where you can use your comps. I'd go over to Luxor and use it at the sandwich place by the sportsbook. Sandwiches are pretty decent and their salads are massive.

Also, I believe if you play a certain amount of hours at Excalibur, you get your resort fees waived for the day. It doesnt take that many hours either. I'd ask the poker desk if they are still running that promo.

If you arent going to be around to play in the weekly freerolls for hours earned, I'd rule out Flamingo, Bally's and Harrah's. If you are going to be around and be able to play the freerolls, I'd recommend giving it a shot. Minimum 15 hours at Harrah's and 18 at Flamingo. Look on Bravo app for further details. The downside of these freerolls of course is you are "stuck" playing at that room.

All 1/2 games are going to be pretty much the same wherever you go. Knowing that, if you get stuck at a table with a bunch of nits, be able to make the decision to get up and either go to another table or another casino. Don't sit for hours in a terrible game.

In reference to the tourny question, you really arent going to find any decent tournaments for under $100 ie the rake sucks and the structures suck. But if you are dead set on doing this, I'd go to MGM for their 11am $2k guarantee. Ok it's not under $100, but it's worth the extra $30 compared to the $70 tournaments as far as payouts go.

If you are into mixed games or a noob at them and just want to give them a shot, check out Orleans tourny schedule. Also, Orleans runs a $15k guarantee $130 buy-in NL tourny on Friday at 7pm (register by 6:30 or you're gonna be put on the wait list). If you make the final table, expect to still be there at 3-4am.

The Wynn runs a daily $140 tourny at Noon Mon-Thursday which I'd recommend. I dont know anything about Venetian because I refuse to step foot on their property or give them any of my money.

I concur with thedude. Excal will be your best bet, for every 5 hrs of live play the poker room manager can knock off 1 night worth of resort fees. The best place to use food comps is the 24 hr deli at Luxor. The other closest poker rooms are MGM and Mandalay Bay. Low buy in tourneys are not worth it with the high rake percentage and bad structure, you would be better off sticking to cash games. But check out poker atlas for a list of tourneys if you are intent on playing a flipament.

To add to what Pure Aggression said, the Mandalay Bay also has an interesting high hand of the hour during certain hours which rolls over from hour to hour if nobody hits it (Jacks full or better). I've seen it get up to like $800. There are some regs that play in this game everyday.... nice guys. But this high hand, especially when it gets up in dollar amount, it really affects the games because unlike most rooms these days, there is a pot minimum that you must meet for the high hand to be valid. No collusion, no spreading the pot, no winking, etc etc. Never quite mastered that dynamic, but it is interesting and can be fun to try in spurts. MB also pays $2/hr and of course their restaurant options are a lot better than Excalibur's.
