Hello. I have some newbie WSOP questions, mostly related to the venue. I've never stayed on the strip before, but I have a room booked at Paris later this month. I'm wondering:

- Groceries: What's my best bet for getting some groceries to keep in my room (just some cereal, milk, snacks)? (I'll be taking an Uber to Paris from the airport, and staying there for a week.) Will I have to Uber it elsewhere (to where?), or are there groceries available somewhere nearby?

- Pool: I see that Paris has a pool, but I can't tell whether guests can use it for swimming laps and exercise (as opposed to a pool that's used for partying or whatever else happens in Vegas pools)? Does anyone know?

- Room: Can anyone in a 1-king Burgundy Eiffel-view room tell me what kinds of furniture are in the room? Is there some kind of seating other than the desk chair? Is there some shelf space for groceries/snacks? I can't tell from the photos online, many of which are inconsistent.

- Other poker rooms: Having never stayed on the strip before, what is the best way to get from Paris to other poker rooms such as Venetian and Wynn? Is it walkable in the heat? Do people take ubers? Is there some sort of shuttle?

Thank you.

Venetian, Wynn, Aria, and Bellagio are all walkable from Paris. Wynn is probably the longest hike.

Should all be very doable if you are fit and limit your exposure. Will it be scorching? Yes.

There's a big CVS or Walgreens sandwiched between Paris and Bally's. Good for drinks and snacks, but not for proper groceries.

To comment on this, I feel walking to the Wynn wouldn’t be that bad from that part of the strip. Just go early. I would say avoid Ubers as they can be timely at bad times (my last trip- an Uber took 15 min to arrive at one point which is unacceptable). My only advice to people is to avoid some of the cheaper hotels like strat or Sahara as they are quite the hike and you have to walk home sometimes late at night when thinks seem a little sketchy as you walk away from the strip.

Paris is in a great location. You can walk to so many top notch casinos. Only the places downtown really require a taxi/Uber (like golden nugget).

Like dogface said, there is a cvs and Walgreens right on the strip. I would check those places out for quick shopping nearby.

For hotels- harrahs is kinda nice and centrally located for a cheaper price. If you don’t mind price, I assume aria, Bellagio, mgm are all solid spots. I try to avoid said places as I feel the prices are kinda a rip off if you play to stay a while like me. Harrahs rooms are perfectly fine and pretty up to modern standards with a safe. Someone like me- i don’t care about the room too much bc I’m playing poker everyday. On a good trip, I’m avoiding the room and just using it for sleep.

You can cut through plenty of casinos from Paris to get wherever or take the monorail. If you have to go out in the sun it is considered normal and fashionable to carry a parasol umbrella, so order and pack a nice one online before you go.

there's a grocery store called VONS on Tropicana across from UNLV. It is somewhere you could easily stop at on the way to the Strip from the airport...or going back after checking in.

For stuff like cereal, milk and snacks you should be fine at the CVS that's right North of the Eiffel Tower. You can also get groceries delivered.

The pool is (obviously?) a leisure pool not a lap pool. That said, if you come in the morning right after they open, you can certainly swim some laps. At least that works at most other hotel pools in Vegas.

What's walkable or not is highly dependent on your preferences and physical shape. Paris to Wynn is less than 1.5 miles door to door. For some people that's easily doable even in the heat. For others not so much.

If you’re one of those people that complains about a walk from the parking garage to the poker room being too far, then you’re not going to enjoy walking from Paris to Venetian/Wynn (or even to Bellagio) in the Vegas heat.

If you don’t mind walking, then if you know your way around you can do much of the walking indoors to avoid the heat.

If you can use the Bally's pool when staying at Paris (used to be able to, not sure if you still can), they're the only hotel who have a proper 12ft deep end. Early morning swimmers can have a proper swim before the drunks arrive.

I decided to check out the WSOP venue at Bally's. Walked over from Bellagio.

What a god-awful tournament venue. The venue is second-rate at best.

Seriously. as for walking from the front of Bally's, or from Paris, I would recommend skipping the interior trip through Bally's and take the hike on the street down Flamingo. There may well be a better route from Paris, but jeeezus, what a dump at Bally's.

Paris is a way better hotel than Bally's to stay, you did ok in that regard.

If you can hit the CVS or Walgreens mentioned above, you should be fine for snacks, and if you have a refrigerator (better check with hotel), you should be set for staying in the room if you want to crash, snack and crash on your own schedule.

Good luck and enjoy your trip. You should be fine walking on the Strip between Trop and just past Encore. There are some good stops for food and I recommend both Tacos El Gordo and The Peppermill.

LOL, are you trying to get him fashionably mugged ? (A parasol umbrella, should he buy one with a concealed sword in the handle ?))

Seriously, a hat, of practically any style that fits and has a brim, would be advisable if you go out in the sun.....a better choice than a f**king parasol.

Above all however, drink plenty of water, all day long, dehydration has caused more bad decisions than alcohol.

it's a 110 effing degrees, walking anywhere is suicide. Tell the hotel you are a diabetic and need a fridge for your meds, they'll bring on up but you will feel bad about lying.

What's the number of heat-related deaths among tourists walking the Strip in an average year?

Burgundy Eiffel-view rooms at Paris are advertised as having a fridge. If there's none there's a good chance they provide him with one if he complains.

190.

"..Heat-related deaths are most common in Nevada and Arizona. Between 2018 and 2021, 571 people in Nevada and 1,298 people in Arizona died where heat was among the causes of death. That’s 4.54 and 4.46 deaths per 100,000 residents, respectively, over that period — far higher than the U.S. average over the same period of 0.35 per 100,000 residents..."

I think all CET hotels have fridges. I'm in I think the cheapest room at Paris right now and it has one.

You can use the north exit from Paris to avoid more outdoor travel as well if you are heading north. Then cut through the CVS to get another few seconds inside before you make trek across the bride to get the Bellagio for example.

you can also get from bally's to the wynn walking barely being outside.

you can come out bally's on the side and cross the street to the back of cromwell. cromwell to harrah's cutting through each casino on the way has you barely outside.

the key part is the back of harrahs by the hotel checkin is about a 20 second outdoor walk to the back of the venitian parking lot.once you're in the venitian go through to the pallazo (never having to go outside), come out of the pallzo on the bridge that connects to the wynn, cross the bridge to go in the wynn(less than a minute outside) then stay inside the wynn and walk to the encore without going outside again.

I just took a cab and an Uber from Gold Coast and Orleans back to Paris and Bally's. The cabs are easier since they have designated pick up and drop off points, right in front of Bally's and Paris. Ubers can be hit and miss to find the pick up points, especially if the Uber driver doesn't speak english or know which way is west! It's about $10 not including tip. Walking among the meanderthals was not a good time.

I specifically asked about how many death are related to walking on the Strip though? How many of those were in good physical condition?

FWIW, the numbers you posted are significantly lower than the number of people who die in car accidents in those two states. So you probably shouldn't ride in a car in Nevada or Arizona.

If you don't want to walk anywhere, that's perfectly fine. It's also a good idea to let people know that it gets very hot in Vegas in the Summer and that walking in the heat isn't for everyone and that distances are longer than they look on a map because properties on the Strip are so big. Just don't tell people it's "suicide" or impossible unless you have personal experience where you or somebody you know suffered a heat stroke while walking from one property to another on the Strip. Countless tourists do that every day.
In another thread somebody recently asked about walking with the caveat that the question was more for Europeans and others because Americans don't walk longer distances. That's just sad.

A couple years ago some people on here were adamant that you couldn't walk from the airport to the Strip in the summer and you might actually die if you tried to do it. LAS to Bellagio:

I don't get what you mean by Uber pickup/dropoff points being difficult to find for the drivers. Pretty sure there app is telling them exactly where to go. It could be a little tricky for the rider to find the pickup point when it's not the main entrance of the hotel. The past week I was going between Palms and Paris - both with the pickup points not at the main entrance - and I had no issues with the any driver not being at the right place.

Why is the monorail hated so much going to Wynn, where people recommend a cab over it? It plops you in the back of the casinos, but so what. Better than wandering curbside and dealing with tips and hullabaloo there.

I was in the poker room at the Orleans. The driver calls and asks my location so I tell him at the west entrance of the Orleans casino. He says '...ok, which way is west?...' The app had him picking me up on the NW corner of the parking garage. He found me shortly and all was well but this seems to happen a lot when I'm using Uber in Las Vegas compared to using a taxi.

Problem was not Uber driver. All the strip hotels half a specifically designated pick up spot. You don’t get to say meet me x. If you were at yourc right spot he would Luke not have had a prob and would not need to call you

I was under the impression ride share drivers aren't even allowed to pick-up / drop-off people anywhere except for the designated spots.

Thanks

Since somebody asked about it via PM: I would definitely not recommend walking from the airport to center Strip in the Summer in the afternoon sun unless you know what you're doing.

But if you walk on the Strip between MGM and Venetian, there's never more than a couple hundred feet between doors to some kind of business. That means an air-conditioned environment and people who can provide you with water and call for medical assistance when worse comes to worse.
Runners always joke that there's no better place to suffer a medical emergency than during a road race because of your proximity to professional help. Walking the Strip might actually beat that.

Some of this is redundant to reinforce some good advice with an extra detail or two.

Groceries - I think your best approach is CVS/Walgreens for the small amount you are looking for. There's a CVS right in front of Ballys. If you are buying a lot more than I imagine, Vonns has a membership for free or really cheap delivery with a free first month (at least they did in the spring) then you can cancel/not pay. This is really only a good move if you are buying so much that the inflated prices of a strip CVS is painful or if it's too much to carry in a couple of trips. Also, I think they would but I'm not 100% Vonn's would deliver to a hotel.

Room - Most but not all Caesars owned properties rooms have refrigerators and a coffee maker. None have microwaves anymore - against Vegas law/regulation of some sort. If you are alone, you definitely should have enough shelf or drawer space for the small amount of groceries that you would need.

Pools - Not my thing and YMMV, but pre covid Paris/Ballys/Flamingo/Planet Hollywood guests could use any of the pools as long as they were a guest at one of them. As someone mentioned, go early to beat the crowds.

Other Poker Rooms - Prepare to sweat a bit. That said on the east side of the strip (the one w/ Ballys/Paris) you can walk most of it inside in the air conditioning at the beginning of your journey. A bit less at the end from Casino Royale to Venetian and while you can walk inside from Venetian through Palazzo to get fairly close to the Wynn, those bastards were master maze makers that make that last stretch a pain in the ass. My tip would be to go into the Venetian then find your way to Grimaldi's Pizzaria (which is delicious, btw) at Palazzo by walking inside. Once there you will exit with a fairly short walk to the Wynn. There is a monorail or the deuce bus that can get you around for a price, but unless you are fairly immobile, I'd lean towards walking. This site has some maps of the inside of casinos to plan your route. https://www.smartervegas.com/hotels/...opertymap.aspx
