You don't think there are more than 20 people in Vegas who would like to be able to smoke while playing poker? There are literally thousands of people who smoke while playing table games in Vegas every day. Why would poker be so much different?

I certainly believe there are a lot more people who want to smoke at the poker table than play uncapped 1/2/5 PLO, or .5/1 NLHE with a $400 minimum buy-in. FWIW, I have no desire to play in a smoking room. But I feel like a lot of people are projecting their own desires for what they would like to see over what might actually be successful.

Affiliated with the Sahara casino that closed in 2011 or just the same name?

I am 99% sure that its been the same owners all along. They started paying x amount to use the SLS name but stopped paying the money at some point and had to change it back to Sahara.

Current owner is listed as Meruelo Group. Previous SBE Entertainment Group who is behind the SLS brand.

I know I saw something about them owing a bunch of money for the rights to SLS name and that was not paid so they had to convert back to Sahara. That is true correct?

If SBE owns the SLS brand then why did they owe money for the use of SLS name?

Its possible I was wrong about being behind it. Noticed some other SLS properties in their portfolio.

Smoking and playing stud, draw, spit in the ocean or other dumb games, 20 is maybe too high a number.

I wasn’t suggesting they only spread these games. Merely offer a lower promotional rake to get them started.

This already exists in Vegas just not on the strip.

I thought the 1/1 @ the linc was a lot of fun.

Also heard rumors Harrah's will be dropping its poker room second half of 2020

Mereulo Group owns Grand Sierra Resort in Reno also, and I believe some other smaller casinos. They are trying to expand into the Vegas area with their group.

They moved the name back to Sahara after they purchased the casino a couple years ago.

FWIW, the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno is just a casino. It's definitely more along the lines of a Stations Style casino than a big mega resort like the strip. I would imagine this new version of the Sahara will be more along that style when completely done. (I'm definitely more into this style casino myself, more laid back.)

The smoking room, while being very much not an interest for me unless it was 420 friendly, would probably do amazing on the strip. I'm surprised one of the rooms hasn't already said **** it and went after the business. I think a room like Harrah's would do very well with this since the room is right off the strip, pretty centrally located, and never seems full when I am in there.

FWIW Sahara will not be on Bravo when it opens. They plan to use Poker Atlas.

.
Not sure what you mean here. Grand Sierra has about 2000 rooms and has everything a resort hotel has, at least by Reno standards.

So if there is no game at 1am will they close?
If there is a full game at 2am will they close?

I could understand posting an opening time in the morning but not a closing time.

That's basically how TI operated when they went part-time.

7 tables? Any tournaments they put on will never reach the glory of the old ones. They likely will never get more than 5 tables, with paltry prize pools.

If the tournament has a rake of over 20% then the Sahara poker room is a piece of $h!t!!!!!!!!

Any new poker room has no business charging a thief of a rake of over 20%.

20% rake equals BOYCOTT Sahara now!!!

This honestly sounds like the most boring poker game imaginable.

Deep stacks without any mechanic to juice the action generally just make most people play tight and scared, and if most players are playing tight in a .5/1, there is no money to be won.

Even at the higher stakes, cash game hold-em is moving away from deeper stacks by adding antes, third blinds, mandatory straddles, periodic bomb pots, etc.

Now, deep stacks might be profitable if there is some crazy whale putting in huge raises every hand. But very few crazy whales want to play .5/1, and in this sort of game, the blinds don't really matter anyway.

Have you never played a live daily tournament in Vegas before? Average rake is like 33%. If the Sahara offers 25% rake it would be a bargain.

LOL. How can it be iconic when it hasn't even opened and no one knows what it looks like. That's like opening a new restaurant and immediately deeming it LEGENDARY.

I'm sure their dining and beverage options will amaze. Do you guys think that like, Ferran Adria will be preparing the gustatory creations for the players?

I don't even think of Sahara as being on the Strip. Once you're past Encore, you're in that depressing wasteland of bombed-out North LVB, a wasteland that has only a brief oasis at the Fremont Street Experience.

I think this is wrong. I never play tournaments, but I'm pretty sure daily tournaments at a place like Bally's are under 30%--probably closer to 20%.

According to PokerAtlas (https://www.pokeratlas.com/poker-roo...as/tournaments), the rake is over 30% on all tournaments. The rake on the $65 tournament is 44% ($20), $75 is 50% ($25) and the $100 is 33% ($25).

I'm taking the part that goes to the prize pool and dividing it into the rake. Some people divide the rake by the entire buy-in, which lowers it some, but I don't think that is the accurate way to do it.

I am not sure how you are figuring this.
I see:
$100 - 25 - 5 = 30% rake including dealer add on.
$75 - 25 - 5 = 40% rake including add on.
$65 - 20 = 30.77% rake with no add on.

edit: I see your edit now.
