In my preparation for attending Event #51 for the WSOP I decided to log back into my 2p2 account which I haven't used in years, I became enthralled by stories by Amused, NCJ, DSB, 4Chainz, DDT, Neb (stolen from Amish) Nutter grungedave etc and it motivated me to try a TR, this is my first and likely last venture into the uncharted territory of TR.
I'm young 30s, high pressure profession and in the past two years I've married the love of my life, had a son (talk about rungood, me having a son is proof there is no such thing as Karma) bought a house and made big strides with my career.
I've gamed my whole life and been on and off borderline obsessive about it. PTQ grinding mtg for a decade plus, raiding with WOW, and even now some sleepless nights trying to rank legendary in hearthstone. If you didn't understand anything of what I just said then you can give me a wedgie if/when we meet. I have always had social skills (brag!), girlfriends and compartmentalized these friends from my "normal" friends and colleagues at work. I play basketball, fantasy sports, and have some degen tendencies that I keep at bay, most of the time.
Like many a nerd before me I realized that poker was like the rest of the games but meant that if you did really well for 12+ hours you could win more than $100.00 worth of product. I devoured the books, forums, and math of the game like any of my former hobbies. I was a low five figure winner on party poker in the early 2000s and had some four figure tournament wins. I was in undergrad and grad school and had a liferoll at the so I never really able to move up stakes and see if I could "make it" at poker. Spoiler, probably not. During those years I had unlimited time (lolsleep) and no money, now it's closer to the inverse.
After school I played poker casually but made the +EV decision to invest my extra time in career advancement, professional networking etc but still played home games and cash games at the local poker room when I could.
Got a room hook up and saw this event were happening at the same time so I made a snapcall and made it happen. The wife loves it because this trip means she gets to buy furniture equal to the buy in plus expenses so I have to rungood x2 to break even. One of the WSOP stream commentators said the Deepstack would get 3k participants but if these forums are any idea I'm betting closer to the millionaire maker numbers, and I'll be one.
6/26- WSOP
6/27- VDS (if busted)
6/28- Cash games 2/5 at Wynn, Aria B or V
6/29- cash before flying out.
Brag: The marketing people for the Wynn did a title search and found out a bought a home in the past year and shipped me 3 free nights so I'll be over there. However, I didn't plan well and fly in around 10:00 a.m. 6/26 and need to go from airport to Wynn to drop off my bags (hopefully my room will be ready by 11:00 a.m.) then rush over to RIO and register for this event that everyone and their dog is playing in. Already mentally prepared to lose 2 rounds of play.
Goals are to make day 2, feel like I played good poker, some pictures of chip porn and good food. I guess I need to check out P Ho since all good TR take place, in part, there as well.
Wishlist/ known -EV plays that I am committing to:
I've watched 5 hours of online RAZZ coverage so I'm already a pro and will sit down at the WSOP cash games for one buy in.
I've learned the rules for OFCP and played the phone APP for like 2 days straight so again, Pro, and sit down and play that as well for a buy in.
In all reality this will be the only chance to play these games ever, outside of a full mix table, so I'll donk off chips for the privilege.
Pit degen with bj, craps, etc.
Drinking at Tag, or something with a flower in it that makes my mouth go numb with 2p2ers.
If you're talking about the Monster Stack, you don't necessarily have to rush there by noon. They are doing a second flight, and the first flight might be full anyway by the time you get there. Call the WSOP cage to verify when you land, and see the thread in MTTc Live.
Busted. It was the spill on the cocktail napkin right? No self respecting bartender would be that sloppy? There will be legit pics inc I just don't have 7am shots in me...

Vodka is more viscous than water. It just looked like water to me.

Kind of funny how every word you wrote here is 100% my exact life.
Got to the Wynn and played 2/5 at a table where everyone knew each others name. Lost one buy in with a sick river gutshot when villain check calls the whole way down and my kk over pair gets mucked on showdown. Head over to Rio at 3 with PLENTY of time to sign up for the event... only to find out im playing at 1045pm starting on level 6 : /.
Hit 2 sets during the first level then whiff a lot of AK boards. Limping into day 2 with 10k and low expectations.
I showed up and they were very clear. .. i was table game degening and didn't keep up with the threads so it was a surprise to me but that's totally my fault. So basically i started with 75 bb and lost 5 hours of play but I'll chose to look at the positive and assume i would have been felted and busted with someone catching a sick 2 outer if i started on time. I'm one double up from being relevant so i don't mind that with only half the field left.
I'm headed back to Vegas June 1-6ish and I have been reading a ton of TRs so I thought I would try again. Instead of reinventing the wheel I thought I would just continue in this (bad) TR. I was originally just going to shoot 6 bullets and the Colossus and play a bunch of deepstacks but after seeing how bad the structure is I decided on another course of action:
1. Fly in Friday June 1 and will play the $365 daily deepstack at the Rio. This will ease me into the tournament, let me pickup poker swag, remind myself while I hate the RIO during the WSOP and play in a stupid big field. If I'm lucky I can also have Mike Matusow hit me with his mobility cart or at least cut in front of me at the men's room.
2. Saturday will be the Venetian Superstack $600 BB ante.
3. Sunday I plan to play the $200k Wynn $1,100.00 tournament.
3. Monday will be open but likely the $100k Wynn for $550.00.
4. Tuesday I plan to play the Mega Satellite for $1,100.00 which qualifies for the 10k heads up event. I'm mainly playing this for S&Gs and a chance to play in a 10k event. If I win a seat I also plan to challenge Doug Polk for rolls. Fat rolls. If I somehow get a seat I'll change my flight. I've blocked off Thursday and Friday at work just in case.
After I decided to change my plans I switched my reservation from the Rio to Caesar's palace since it's more centrally located and a nicer property.
I read through all of Leon's amazing TRs which motivated me to play some video poker and also attempt Diamond in a Day. Of course I don't have the patience to grind out 10+ hours at low limits so at $70.00 a pull my expected loss of $400ish turned into a real loss of about $4,700.00 and a bunch of w-2s. I was stupid enough to try again in February of 2018 since CET ran a double tier credit promo and got DIAD having won $100.00 and played it down to zero. By the end of 2018 I will have used about 30ish free days at their properties so the net result is probably close to break even if I was going to pay for the rooms. At this point I basically have unlimited free rooms with some minor bonus like $200 gift cards or free play so I'll try to milk that while providing some play so I don't tank my THEO.
The past year I dove into Overwatch, Fortnite (burned myself out getting "okay" and my first Victory Royale) and Hearthstone (stuck at rank 3 at the moment going back and forth between even pally and taunt druid.) Not a ton has changed over the past few years. Big picture I'm very blessed and I continue to have increasing discretionary funds. I'm pretty cheap in general when I'm not in Vegas but I won't think twice about a $300 wagyu steak in the 702. Think of me as the dollar store version of AurthorBlank without famous friends, screen t-shirts or my mental health being directly linked to crypto-swings.
Poker is always the draw in Vegas but the pits games always call to me. I learned a buddy who loves to gamble had never played craps so I took him to the tables at PH with the expected results (see incoming pictures). Also over the course of the past few years I've run hot at Bellagio limit games (which I never really play limit otherwise), the Simpsons slot machine (never played any other slots but I grew up on Simpsons and the bonus events are all fun) and played some donkaments. Below are some pictures of poker chip porn, "getting back to even" pit chip porn, my run in with the dollar store version of Nicki Minaj, and dick shaped chip stacks. Chipstacks, like all the best foods, are dick shaped.
I watch Neeme, Boski and, reluctantly, the trooper. The two former spout off hand histories and I didn't realize how hard it was to get all of the pertinent details until I just practiced at my local tournament last night.
I will do my best to do the TR live with pictures since those are the TRs that I personally like the best. Hopefully this doesn't flame out and someone will get some amount of entertainment.
