Steak and Shake is the ultimate sober up food in the midwest. To goofyballer, white castle is pretty crappy to be honest. The only reason why its so popular here in chicago is because its open 24/7 and is on nearly every corner. Great place to sober up at, but you will be disappointed for sure. DO NOT EAT WHITE CASTLE SOBER.

I just joined 2+2 to post on this thread. Here in New Zealnd Micky D has a limited edition burger called the Angus. Angus is a high quality breed of beef down here, grass fed. Expensive though, $7.20 burger only or $10 as a combo. served with cheese, relish and caramelised onions. Probably the best ever McD burger I have ever had. I was in Vegas in January and went to In n Out and it was Ok. I liked the small menus that just has the basics.

Off topic....I really looked forward to going to someVegas steakhouses and went to Prime and the one at New York, think it was called Gallegers or something, anyway was really disappointed. Nice size servings but I am used to grass fed beef. your grain fed has lots more fat is is very tender though. But thats what its all about, we all have different tastes we like, some like grain, some like grass fed, some like in n out some even like wendys (wendys here is absolute rubbish). If you guys are ever down this way check out Burger Fuel, they do gourmet burgers and they are awesome! http://www.burgerfuel.com/ My fave is "The Ring Burner"

I am from midwest too and steak n' shake is disgusting imo. Another vote for 5 guys > INO but both are delicious. what is your'alls go to 5 guys order?

I usually go ketchup + mustard + raw onions + jalapenos + lettuce + tomato. I use to go A1 over Ketchup and mustard but have changed back. The bacon cheese dogs are delicious as well. cajun fries ftw obv

It is just ridiculous how much better the fast food burger places are out west compared to the rest of the country.. never had 5 guys though

It's because the drive-thru started out here. Fast food is ingrained in the culture. LA is mecca for fast food.

Took the tram from Mandalay Bay to Excalibur and walked from there to the LV In n Out. It was suuuper busy midday, but they managed to keep up with the orders decently fast.

The quality of burgers was high for the price, and the simplicity of the menu was cool. I kinda wish they didnt clobber the burgers with so much plasticy cheese though.

Got the double double with grilled onions and animal style fries.

Well you did order double cheese....

Try a 2x1 next time.

We have Steak N Shake in Florida and it's just OK imo. Is In N Out comparable to that? That would surprise me just based on the rave reviews I've heard about In N Out. Steak N Shake fries kinda suck imo...unless maybe you just love shoestring fries. But Steak N Shake isn't even close to as good as Fatburger. I really gotta try In N Out one of these days.

Maybe it's better in New Zealand but MacDonalds is generally considered 'the best...of the worst' in the US. Meaning, of all the crappy fast food burger joints MacDonalds is one of the better ones but they still kinda suck (esp for burgers...their fries have always been good). We have the MacDonalds Angus burger here too and it isn't very good imo (very dry when I had it). The word 'Angus' is thrown around VERY loosely these days...it really doesn't mean much anymore.

Wow, I lived most my life in Florida (Las Vegas now) and think Steak N Shake blows Fatburger away. I don't even eat at Fatburger when I get free comps.

I can take or leave In n Out but the 24 hour Fuddruckers (here in Vegas)...... I can't get enough! YMMV.

Inspired by this thread, I just ate lunch at In n Out.

4 burgers & a diet coke. The grilled onions were very tasty. Price was dirt cheap. Enjoyed my lunch.

Only bad thing I could say is those little brown wrappers they put on half of the burger, gross me out. Nit-picking I know, but overall, a very nice quick & cheap lunch.

Oh, the brown wrappers aren't meant to be eaten. Burgers are definitely less gross sans paper wrappers. Agreed about the onions though.

I'm surprised no one shows love for Carls Jr. I love their burgers. Plus, their ads with amazing hot chicks giving their burgers bjs are extremely intoxicating.

By the way did the guy who posted above me seriously eat 4 burgers with the wrappers on? Diet coke tastes terrible btw. I'd never drink a glass for anything less than $10.

Enjoyed 4 burgers & thought the wrappers were creepy (did NOT eat them). YMMV.

Can I have your comps?

I guess it's just horses for courses...I usually wouldn't even compare SnS to FB just because I find FB soooo much better. SnS is to Subway as FB is to a really good deli...imo. But we obv have different opinions which just goes to show I'll never know what InO is about until I get my ass down there and try it.

Used to have a Fuddruckers when I lived in Atlanta and it was good (but still not as good as FB).

I dont think much of Steak-n-shake either... although I dont think I ever ate a burger there. From what I remember, they have so much stuff that I dont think they are in the same category as a burger place anyway. I dont remember anyone ever even mentioning Steak-n-shake burgers at all and I lived near them for a long time. Most people liked something else about it.. like their shakes or that chili with noodles in it.

This. Anybody who tries to compare pan fried burgers to char-broiled is missing a few...

Steak n Shake lies in the middle ground between a sit-down restaurant and fast food, and its prices lie there too. It's definitely more expensive than any other sort of fast food. Having said that, their shakes and the frisco melt are really good.

In n Out is priced like fast food and works like fast food, but the quality is higher than standard fast food, which makes it good value.

Went to the 5 guys last night on Long Island ( ny), was pretty disappointed. First off the bacon cheeseburger was very expensive, over 7 dollars jus for the burger alone. I got the A-1 sauce, which they put wayyy to much on and totally killed the taste of the burger. The fries were alright but nothing great. On a positive note the bacon cheese dog was very good. For 2 people it came out to almost $30 and if your going to spend that much you might as well go to applebees or somewhere like that. Speaking of Applebees they have a great burger there, the new steakhouse burger, it is awsome it actually taste like a piece of steak----
