Hello. I'm starting this thread to keep an ongoing update of my success or failure of flying down to Las Vegas with a one-way ticket, booking a few nights, and seeing how long I can last. The flight has been booked, as is the cheap hotel. I leave in one week. My ducks are in a row and it is time to go. I have a four night stay and about four full days of play. If I'm losing after the end of day 3, I'm heading back home. Everything I earn will go back into staying longer because it will lower my daily cost the longer I stay. I should be able to crank out a good $20/hour, but variance happens. I can run average or great, just not bad. If I'm running average, I will extend my stay by a few days at a time. If I run great, I will probably rent something out for a month. I'll have to head back home after a month, though, to take care of stuff.. I'm bringing about 9 buy-in's. I've been to Las Vegas twice. Once by myself. Wish me luck and I hope to stay long!

I lose maybe 6 buy-in's and fly back home. Not a big deal.

Thanks I will. It'll be fun and an adventure most definitely. I'm not really into making a vlog but I'll update as I go.

Then this sounds boring... no true risk, no true reward.

Good luck. Hope you run good. What limit are you going to play?

Good I don't want this to be risky. The point is to last long in Vegas. I don't think it will be boring either, at all. I have a plane ticket and hotel booked for Vegas, with a bankroll, and might not come back. That is the opposite of boring. This isn't just on a whim or a heater either. I've researched and visited Vegas. Been planning on something like this for years. I think I'm doing it right. I don't want to go through the job process. I play 40 hours a week already so I'd like to go there playing poker and stay playing without any major setbacks or an unwanted job.

I love this type of stuff. You can do it. Here I am, 4 years later. Network like a mofo and don't be too proud to find work for extra BI. Good luck OP.

That's awesome to hear. Yes I'll definitely network. I also have a friend who is moving to Las Vegas from my area in about 2 months. If I need a job eventually, I will. But if I can't make it from poker alone in a month or so, I'll have to head back to handle stuff here no matter what. Who knows, after a month I may decide to officially move there. That would be awesome but not unrealistic at all. I'd say there is a decent chance of me moving there permanently. If I moved there officially, I would definitely have work other than poker. Sitting too much is a bad thing and I do enjoy other things in life that earn income. I am good at reselling items and can somewhat easily generate enough money to live just from that if I established a home with an address.

I find it a very interesting proposition. I wish you the best. I assume that you are young, unmarried, not currently working in a job?

First off GL. Seems like you would already know if you are winning player. Why have your decision to stay depend on such a small sample size.

Good luck! You seem to have the right attitude!
Only, just for the viewing pleasure, can you give us a little more info about yourself? Age, gender would be a good start.
I guess the rest we'll leave to the immagination!

After going broke on my 1st Vegas trip years ago, I would recommend having your return ticket booked in advance. You can make it for like a month away and adjust the date as needed. That extra security blanket will provide for more fun gamble!

Not sure I understand. I have to run terrible for about 40 hours straight in order to fly back after 4 nights. At $1/2, with my game and recorded stats, it would be very hard to not be up money after 30 hours of play.

I am late 20's-early 30's male, haven't worked in about 9 months. I spend about 40 hours at the casino a week. From the Detroit area in Michigan. Thank you!

I thought about it. It might save me $100. But in my head, for some reason, booking the flight home means I have doubts, and I'm going "all-in" (corny pun of the year). However, I do need to come back to the Detroit area after about a month to handle some stuff here. Maybe I should just buy it and keep pushing it back just in case. Thanks!

Yeah i'm all for shot taking but going to vegas with a 1200$ bankroll to play 1/2 is .... well, not very smart to put it mildly. GL though, i hope you will make it

I just find it hard to believe that if someone played say 2000 hours that during that run they wouldn't have 30 hour stretch where they were a loser.

Sounds like you are ready to make the move perm. GL.

Variance, like karma, can be a b*tch. It isn't out of the realm to hit a stretch where you drop more than a few buy-ins within a few days. That you apparently have never had one of those stretches does NOT mean they don't exist or that you are immune.

Don't get me wrong...I certainly wish you well. But the past does NOT guarantee future success...
