We had a car stolen last weekend, filed the report over the phone and when we asked if somebody would come to take a look at the “crime scene” were told they are usually too busy for stuff like that. Wednesday night they called to tell us they found the car somewhere in the hood and had it towed to a city tow lot. My wife asked if they arrested any suspects and they told her that’s not going to happen. Also couldn’t say what condition the car is in. Case closed, don’t bother us again.
We had a car stolen a month ago and my wife had the same reaction. My take on it is this: it isn't the worst thing that the police act this way. Car theft is a property crime, and while in a perfect world property crimes wouldn't happen either, in the real world the crime lab has some godawful backlog of untested rape kits and evidence from other crimes where people were hurt. I'm fine settling our property with the company we've been paying to insure our property.

Not that $3/month is expensive, but it is even significantly cheaper to get it through your auto insurance carrier. When I lived in Vegas I was paying $3.70 semiannually (roughly 62 cents/month) for roadside assistance coverage through State Farm. I am currently paying 3.60 semiannually in Miami for the same coverage.

After thinking about if for a moment, I still can't come up with the proper name for that door. Blame my high school English teacher for not teaching that.

I agree 100%, they have more important things to do. It's just pretty sad it is that way because that tells criminals there's a very low risk for them attached to property crime.

Over here, part of your insurance premiums go into a central pot to pay out claims for people who get wrecked by uninsured morans, so yes, part of the reason premiums are so lolhigh is because you do pay for the uninsured
