I've only had 1 royal at the tables, lifetime. I didn't even win any money because it was in a satellite, where I won a small handful of chips. Didn't cash in the satty either.
When I got my first royal, the Monte Carlo payout for a hearts royal that day was nearly $13K. Fortunately, I was playing a tournament, so avoided having to carry all that cash.
Just to make sure, I flopped quad somethings in the next blind round which would've added another several hundred. Sigh.

Muck, are the $1k chips there kinda tan, or is that just the lighting?
To further the derail, I've only had one royal. It was at Borgata on NYE. I also had a straight flush and quads that night. No high hand payout. Only the straight flush paid much.
Seems like a bad board, but at least Muck got paid a little.

Guy actually had a set of jacks but sadly the river was a ten putting one to the straight out there so he folded.
Last May I also flopped a straight flush and got full stacks of value vs full house on the river.
Furthering the derail, the one royal I ever hit came ten or fifteen years ago at the Showboat in AC, back when the poker room was still open. The floor came over and informed me that I'd won a coupon that entitled me to $10 off the breakfast buffet on any morning--as long as the coupon was used prior to 10 a.m. I accepted the voucher, of course, but somehow I never got around to using it.
At Foxwoods, you can still sometimes see guys rocking the flashy jacket they used to give away for hitting a royal.
I recall other royal promotions at Foxwoods involved outdoor grills and gas cards....
Absolutely mental day today out exploring. Probably one of my best days of my life, saw so many amazing things. I have another 500 pictures on the camera that I’ll post some of when I am home in Malta, but until then some mobile shots.
Dead sidewinder rattlesnake:
Road up to Mount Charleston:
Desert tortoise at Red Rock canyon, this is more rare than hitting a royal flush!!
Well, I wish everything would always be sunshine and rainbows and winning sessions, but that is not always the case obviously.
After the tour I stupidly sat down at 1/3 tired to grind out a couple more hours towards Gold. Lost $400 in 3 hours I think. Then between Aria and Park MGM I torched $5000 on blackjack in an unreal way. Last $2000 I was playing in the high limit room at Park MGM at $100 and COULD NOT WIN A HAND! Nothing! Zero!
Anyway that’s Vegas. Time for breakfast and then 1/3 for as long as I can manage or until busto. Flight leaves at 8:30 pm tomorrow evening.
Also not so fun story; I finally manage to fall asleep at midnight. At 2 am all the lights in the room come on and loud sirens saying that there is an emergency and it is being investigated. Almost have a heart attack (literally, I have heart problems). I get dressed, take money out of the safe and open the door and all other guests from the same floor are at their door too checking what’s happening.
Security is running around like crazy, they have fire extinguishers and they are trying to open up a door two doors next to me. Turns out a lightbulb exploded and started smoking. But holy **** those 15 minutes were pure nightmare fuel
