Who needs poker?

BigWhale - Wanted to say thank you for all the effort and level of detail you put into this trip report. I'm a rec player and love reading your thought process.

I'm curious what's your TR process - do you quickly capture important hands right after the hand and then write a detailed TR later on or are you writing it as you go? Or are you a genius replaying all this from memory later?

Thanks, hugely appreciated My thought process is definitely flawed at times, but I try to base a lot of it on what I have learned at 'Crush Live Poker'. So if you want to improve your game, I strongly suggest to sign up there. And I can guarantee I am not paid to say this.

I am writing down quick details as soon as the hand is finished, and when I then get in front of a computer I just need to look at my notes to jog the memory and remember the hand, the opponent types etc. A typical note can look like this (I write parts of it in Norwegian for myself, but would work just as well in English):

"Two l3 raise ATdd 16 CO, BB call, l-f. T-9-4 two c one d. C $15 fold."

(two limps for $3, I raise ATdd to $16 from cutoff, BB calls, and limpers fold. T-9-4 two clubs one diamond. He checks, I bet $15, he folds).

After doing this for all trips for 6 years now (where did the time go?), I am very used to it and have found a system that works for me. If I have a specific strategic thought during a hand that I think is important to mention, I also try to include it. But most of the times it's not really necessary, as it all comes back to me when I read the short version.

(and I am very honest with the thought process I have during hands, both good and bad).

Appreciate it, glad everyone enjoyed it! I’m $1200 from my target so no more blackjack at least for a while, will try and grind it out at 1/3 today and tomorrow.

Already up $200 so technically just $1k to go!

6 hours in, sitting at close to 1k. Will try my best to stay until midnight but will see how that goes.

I’m an old Swedish fish. Gave up after 7 hours, way too tired to continue playing. 600 profit!






One more almost full day to go tomorrow.

One final update for tonight. After winning 600 at Aria I had some food at Park MGM and after hit a blackjack table for $500 and had THE SICKEST shoe of my life. Cashed out $1200 profit in like 10 minutes.

Other guy had a naked ten

Straddle $6 with KTo, 4 callers. Late position make it $25 I call so does 3 others. Flop Q98r. Original raiser makes it 55 into like $150, I call. Turn is a J, I check and he now makes it $150. I ship it right into his face for 600. He calls with JJ and river is a brick .

Cash brought: $3000
ATM: $5200

Total: $8200

Expenses:

Laptop: $1500
Clothes: $1000
iPhone 15 pro for me & wife : $2300
Apple watch: $700

Total: $5500

Cash taken home: $8000

Profit if my math is correct: $5300

This does not include plane tickets, hotel ($300 total over 2 weeks) and bunch of money spent on restaurants, Uber and random ****.

I’m up $3200 or so on poker so it means that after everything I should be up around $2000 on blackjack and VP.

Not too bad overall. It was definitely extremely intense but fun at the same time.

Fun fact: I’m officially over 1000 hours in Las Vegas over 3 years total. Safe to say that it’s enough sample size to not be variance. I’m up a total of $20 000 for 1000 hours, mainly at 1/3.

My calculation is wrong, forgot that I also bought some gifts for my kids for $1000 total so profit is actually $6300.
