As many have seen before. I am looking for any insight to where to live or more importantly where to avoid. If anyone knows of anyone having a room to rent or what the average cost of living renting a unit is? Any information will help. I would like to know about casinos to go to, etc...

Thanks

Stay away from the North. Generally SW is the best. A lot of the east areas are not too great either.

Yes avoid the north. Houses look so cheap but the traffic and crime are really bad. I live in the southwest and you can't go wrong living anywhere in this area.

I've also heard a lot of people say avoid north vegas.

The three best places in Vegas to live are Summerlin (West) of strip, Henderson (SE of strip), Southwest (SW of strip duh).

Summerlin is probably the most pricey and it can be about a 20-25 min drive from the strip depending on location. Henderson is solid 15-20 min drive from strip though sometimes it can get a bit traffic heavy. I know several poker players who live in Henderson. Southwest has a lot of new construction and residential communities going. Also around 15 min drive to the strip.

In general though, you want to avoid living too close to the strip. Those parts are fairly old buildings and much higher crime rate and sketchier in general. The trade off of living 5 min closer to the strip to have a worse environment is generally not worth it.

I also live in SW and I think the area is really nice. With no traffic, takes me 12 min to get to Bellagio (best casino to park at if you have Gold+ card for free valet). Close to Ikea and Walmart supercenter 24/7.

For renting a 1 bedroom, by yourself, I think it can range from 750-1k/mo for a decent place. If you want roommates, I think you could be looking at 500-800 range depending on whats included.

For casinos the most high traffic poker rooms are:

Bellagio, Aria, Red Rock (Summerlin), Venetian, Wynn. A lot of smaller poker rooms will have weekly grinding promotions but that sometimes makes the games nittier/worse. Bellagio and Aria don't ever run promos so their games are usually pretty good.

Regarding high traffic poker rooms: I think that you really have to add the Orleans. I am looking at Bravo right now and they have more games going than anyone else. Before I get flamed . . . I've heard all of the complaints:it's all locals, etc. etc. Over the years I have played there quite a bit (as well as the poker rooms that were mentioned above) and I have to say I have enjoyed myself. They also have a fairly good slate of daily tournaments.

Oh yea, totally forgot about Orleans since I almost never play there. That's a really hot spot now for poker.

Talking about Orleans as I live up the street from there.

There's some developments in my area (Decatur/Hacienda & Hacienda/Lindell) that are fairly quiet and nice. Convenient to everything including a 3 mile drive to Strip.

Maybe you should look it up, it's called Renaissance Villas.
I live in a 2br 2ba unit.

Lol funny you mention that. I was just in Vegas this past week and while there, I received a 'T-Mobile Tuesday' deal for a free towel. So I looked up the closest T-Mobile store near me (The Linq) and went to the one on East Flamingo and Maryland Parkway.

I walk in and I see there's a security guard with a gun. I'm chatting with the employee and I'm like 'wow you guys need armed security at a T-Mobile store?'. She's like 'yea this area is really bad, we have armed robberies and crazy people here all the time'. I ask her what this area is called and she says "Eastside" lol.

Where that T-mobile store is ain't bad, it's that they're close by a bus stop lol

Go further east on Flamingo, get worst and worst as you get closer to Boulder Highway

I like the southwest, but prefer the northwest (especially the extreme NW). The drive to the strip will be longer (in most cases, probably double the drive from the southwest), but the area is underrated and in some cases underdeveloped, which means quieter.

I live west of the 215 way out past Red Rock Casino...The 7 degree average lower temps is a big deal for me...especially in the evenings..I also like that there's no traffic issues up there..plus it feels much safer ..

Negatives are the longer drives to the strip and the higher rent..but with both , , it's not really that much more than say Green Valley ..

As far as casinos? Red Rock is ok action with mostly regular retired folks..I'm a PLO live game junky and a tournment hound ..so I've been playing mostly at the Aria, V and the Wynn..All nice rooms ..games are much better in the early AM..so don't be lazy and get down there when most of the other regulars/ pros are sleeping..that's the best advice you'll ever get regarding LV poker

Why is that? Is there some vegetation out there? Or just more elevation?

I just moved to Henderson and so far I love it. Everything is packed together nicely and it doesn't seem that there is much crime. The drive to the strip is not bad either.

Everyone says avoid north lol. The northwest is the best kept secret in all of the Vegas valley. Houses are slightly less and the lots are larger. It is quiet up here, cooler (higher elevation), and way less traffic. I can be to the strip in 25 minutes or less depending on traffic. Southwest is nice but it is getting BUSY, especially Blue Diamond. The houses are crammed together and crime in on the rise.
