Why not just play poker as a hobby?

I believe the years of psychological insecurity of not having a steady stream of income or work, lack of solid relationships or circle of friends, lack of physical contact and emotional connection, low self-esteem and need for validation, and the recurring disappointment of failing to meet one's (unreasonable) life expectations in addition to the inevitable comparison of one's achievements, or lack thereof, to other members of society, will lead to this sort of extreme behavior and irrational thinking.

I believe that getting a 9-5 job will do wonders to your mental health.
Doesn't matter what type of role it is; call center job, cleaning toilets, selling hot dogs etc.
Just get a job, get busy and start saving.

Workout at the gym. Like 3-4 days a week.
You have to think baby steps. Getting a job and working out can be the catalyst for significant positive change down the road. Whether that be 3 months from now or a year from now. Even if you don't look healthy right away, you will FEEL healthy and feel like you are making positive choices and indeed, you are. The fit body will come with time, and that's a bonus.
I guarantee that the mind will feel refreshed and satisfied after a gym session, whether it be doing cardio or lifting weights. But unless you actually head to the gym, you just won't know what I'm talking about.
Seeing other people invest their time and energy into keeping active at the gym will also be a source of encouragement and positivity as well.

Literally just sorting out these two things (finding a full time job, going to the gym) will align your thinking into clear and rational decision making. The rest will come naturally to you.
In a couple of months of this routine, you will enjoy your new found work/life balance. You will think to yourself, "Well, this wasn't so hard, was it? Why didn't I think to do this earlier?"
You will feel good about yourself, your confidence and self esteem will rise, and you will be encouraged to continue to improve yourself.
It can be a snowballing effect of positive change. Relationships will be more meaningful, people will notice that you are happy with being you.
You will begin cherishing the time spent with family and friends.

Sooner or later, you will be mentally refreshed and happy. Your outlook on life will be renewed and clear as day. You will have money in the bank. Your parents will be happy.
You will start being extremely grateful for the life you have. You will no longer take anything for granted.
Poker will no longer be an emotional pursuit for you anymore. It will be a leisurely activity. Something you do for fun.
This is because you now have a reason to live. And that reason is to better yourself. It is and always was, you just didn't know it. You start placing value to things that actually matter in life: yourself, your family and friends, your work, your health etc

Today, you don't have the tools to better yourself because you are not mentally or emotionally healthy. The only tool you have currently is your imagination.
What you are doing is avoiding the reality of your current life situation by using your imagination. You're trying to relieve the pain of the less than optimal decisions made in the past. This is only an indication that you are unhappy with your current situation, and for good reason; you know you can do better.
You know what you want but you don't know how to get there. You have doubts about whether you will be successful. Essentially, your judgement is clouded.
The good news is that you can answer these questions for yourself in a matter of weeks by incorporating some basic and necessary routines in your life.
You are only 30 years old. You have your whole life ahead of you.

Getting your life on track doesn't take years, it only takes weeks or months. But I believe a routine of regular work and physical fitness is the essential first step in doing so.
Playing poker is fine. But come back to it after a solid year of work and hitting the gym.
I wager that you will approach it either with a completely new and healthier attitude.

Wow what a response. Thank you for the sound advice!

I quit a year and a half ago to treat it as a hobby. I went to interviews for call center jobs, selling cars, didn't land anything. I thought anything in sales would be good. Gave up after a couple months and lost the motivation. I got my realtor license, showed a couple houses, lost interest. Don't enjoy being a salesmen.

What can I say, if I can find the will to consistently work for someone I rather put in that effort into building my own company and contracting my own clients. Something I work on regularly but run out of gas.

I play basketball for cardio and do some lifting a couple days a week. I'm very happy person. My parents are happy as well considering, my mom just got cleared of cancer for now and pops has diabetes. He did very well for himself as a financial advisor, owning 3 paid properties now, couple nice cars etc.

You're also right about my imagination-I have one. I can be unrealistic at times. But I think having a vision is important, or else theres no motivation to do anything. I already feel fulfilled in life and have plenty of self esteem.

I'm just exploring the live MTT community- and looking for poker advice in how to schedule an appropriate grind and put myself in a position to build up a roll.

Thanks
Ersh

Go to sharkscope.com and type in your screen name and it will tell you what your ROI is.

If your ROI in $2 is 50% (I am assuming it is less), and you move up to $10 MTTs when you get to 1k bankroll (need $700 profit so 1400 $2 MTTs) you will then have to play 2,000 online MTTs to hit your 10k goal assuming you can maintain a 50% ROI which is doubtful.

Does not sound like a good way to spend your time.

I'm "ersh" on ACR and Betonline.

My ACR stats are bad. I played mostly on ignition and when I started playing on ACR I was just punting cyrpto profits on cash tables.

My betonline (chico) stats are more accurate to what i can do with MTTs...the last time i played on there I was trying hard to grind $3 rebuy tourneys. MY avg ROI on there is 94.5% apparently, total roi 20% and up about $650. That was the span of about 3 weeks.

I stopped playing there once I moved back home and refocus my life on finding a job. I'm going back to the poker thing now. I'm playing on ACR now because the MTT options are best for USA I think.

I vote move and try it out, you have no kids, are single and have no responsibilities other than to yourself. Do it and enjoy life. You have some things to fall back in case it doesn't work out. Keep us posted on how it goes, when do you plan on moving if you do?

I was planning to go next month around the 10th. Still researching housing, a used car etc

Might also aim for Jan.

Will update after some traction!

This does not look promising. Do the math, consider at a minimum that your rent will go from $0 to >$600 per month (altho it will be much more), your results seem to give you a steady $200/week. You seemingly will be hard-pressed to cover even your rent + ramen noodles.

The BEST you can do would be to get a job, even if you are not interested as it will pay your bills, and play poker only as a hobby.

Bottom line, I hope/believe you are just trolling.

Dont listen to the nits! $7k you can take a couple shots at 5/10NL and if that doesn't work out then just back down a bit and drive uber. You think Sam Grizzle worried about running up his $300 ACR roll? Long way to 1.8MM playing $2 tourneys.

I realize the thread title is misleading but I'm not using the 7k for poker its a reserve for bills and the cost of moving to Vegas.

I will be working...
I'm estimating my monthly expenses should be about $1,600-$1,800.

My poker 'budget' for MTTs would be about $150/week.
I think that gives me 2 bullets per week?

Looking for general advice.

1. What are good low stake tourneys to play? Satellites?
2. I know some casinos offer the player cards and rewards. Any worth noting?
3. How much is a reputable 'mtt coach'?
4. Do the same BRM rules for online poker apply for live poker?

I'm know with corona the live MTT scene is probably dead- I'm just doing research ahead of time while I rebuild my online roll.

On WSOP online, there are several deep stacked cheap tournaments a day. $3, $5 and $7.

Those you can double buy in from the start if you wish and its unlimited rebuy until reg closes and then add on for another bullet.

For sure play the $7 one at 5:30pm daily with 3k guarantee.
