Long time poster, my other account got banned when I got hacked. I have a job offer with my current company to move to Henderson as their Regional Sales Manager. I know very little to nothing about the area other than having been to the strip to play poker three times. Any advice on good areas to rent in at first, will be purchasing a place within six months.

I would say, just get a furnished hotel or a room in someone's house at first.

Moving is freaking terrible. To do it 2x in 6 months is insane.

As poverty/disfunction are rampant, there are tons of weekly/monthly hotels and most are sketchy. But when I moved here we found an OK one to use as a base for a couple months till we found a long term apartment we liked.

Someone linked the other thread.

Tldr: there are very nice suburban areas but most are far from the cool vegas stuff.

If you want to be close to cool vegas stuff, you probably have to deal with a lot of homelessness and crap, but not like gang violence or anything.

If you want to pay $1k/mo hoa, you could live in a high rise condo near cool vegas stuff, and isolated from sketchiness.

Henderson, for renting/buying/living near your new employment location. Because your new employmemt location IS Henderson, definitely look into Green Valley.

If you can manage it while you look to buy, store your stuff locally in Henderson and rent something furnished. I suspect your relocation package includes that sort of interim cost

Ignore those posters itt going on about "what Trooper or Rice do or have done". Your situation could not be more different.

Google Henderson Nevada and look for quality of life regarding what matters to you.

(Plan on getting bottled drinking water.)

The only clear drawback to Henderson is that all the poker there has shut down....(Stupid Stations decisions !!!)

An alternative choice might be the Scotch 80s area, if your taste is more urban.

I think Summerlien should be deemed too far, because of the lengthy job commute you would be signing up for.

Two words: "Gated Community"
Yes, I live in one, in Summerlin. It pleased my wife when we were looking. And we looked everywhere. Condos, downtown, The Strip, Dean Martin, LVCC, North Valley, Henderson, Sun City, Spanish Trail, etc, etc.............. Having no idea what your cost basis will be for residence, trying to advise on specifics is futile. One piece of adv I'd give is to find a realtor without an agenda. Give them your parameters and see how they do. The two that I know well enough to socialize with and play golf with are west/North Valley based, so they may not be Henderson savvy. PM me if intersted however. Good luck.

There are many apartment/condo rental properties in Henderson during your lookin to buy phase. By Henderson, I mean Green Valley. Ask your employer for suggestions, especially if they will pick up te rental tab as "relocation".

Gated community is good advice for when you are looking to buy. When you are in the temporary rental phase, it is less important.

I've lived in two gated communities in Henderson. Each had a guard gate and its own amenities within the community.

Houses do come up for rent if you want to try them out before buying something.
