So we made it.

After a really productive few weeks back home, I booked a 2 week stay in Vegas and swapped a bunch of cash into USD to go chase dreams for a little bit.

I'm an online commodities trader and long-suffering parttime MSNL grinder online from Australia. I am also now on the wrong side of 30 despite the constant ID checks here in Vegas, so it felt like the right time to give the games a crack before I look into more adult pursuits and things like 'starting a family' take preference.

I'm staying on Fremont til the 30th then the Strip for the rest. Going to try and play as many rooms as possible but mostly Bellagio/Aria 2/5 games as my reg games.

Firstly though Ill leave you with the food from my last minute cheap upgrade to business with United...

- Prosciutto, pear and feta with a quinoa salad
- Steak fillet (forgot the cut) with polenta and green beans
- The compulsory icecream with hot fudge

Overall def a new high for airplane food. Reclining seat to bed was amazing for the 14 hour longhaul flight too, enough to make me regret getting it. Now I know what I was missing, I'll never be able to do economy again...

So so painfully true!

Best of luck on the trip and I hope you run hotter than a steering wheel at the end of a Melbourne summer day. Moop in Vegas (11/28-12/12 TR)

How hot is that? In Phoenix everyone puts oven mitt covers on their steering wheels when they park.

Something for us to learn there! My wife's car showed 59.5 degrees Celsius when she tried to get in it yesterday afternoon - that's approx 139 Fahrenheit Moop in Vegas (11/28-12/12 TR)

That said... Moops... I now hope you run hotter than a Phoenix steering wheel.

There was a news article in Tucson, AZ (which is not as hot as Phoenix) where they took these readings:
High: 105 F

Dashboard temperature: 217 F

Steering wheel temp: 189 F

In the summer in AZ you see these things for sale in stores everywhere:

Im glad I'm here where I can wear more than one item of clothing total without melting into a pile of goo.

So I have a proper post later, but I just wanted to share a celebration of the first damn free promotion money I've ever received in Vegas. Flopped quad 8s vs an OMC, got his stack and a bonus hundo so decided the bonus can exit the roll so I can belatedly post this....

Off to the strip now, maybe out to Red Rock again later. Going to park at PH and see whats around, shout if anyones in the area!

Spot on. I'm a Seinfeld tragic and it's my show highlight. I got the chance to name the new apartment last year, Moopsville was born.

So let's try and do this all at once. Going to try and section it up, apologies if it comes off stream of consciousness...

LOS ANGELES

- So the flight got in late at 8am instead of 6am like I had planned for with the car pickup and the chores I needed to run. Ironically with having a bed seat I felt like garbage!

- Managed to score a chiropractic appointment before the incoming 2 weeks of endless sitting down through a friend. Seriously, as a 30 year old with horrible posture, I recommend this to anyone playing for a living whos never considered it. I haven't felt as alive in a long time.

If you're in LA go to Santa Monica and see Dr Jane San Juan at 2300 Santa Monica Blvd, it's the business.

- Also the business is Tacos Por Favor in the same area. Got myself some legit huevos rancheros for lunch, served by a 6-strong line cook team. Fresh as hell, filling and under 10 dollars. Total winner.

- Not the business was the flight to Vegas. I always debate driving up but always convince myself the 1 hr flight is quicker. This time we got the holy trifecta of a 3 hour delay, a kid screaming for the entire flight (literally not figuratively) and a descent so sharp I felt like I was going to end up halfway to China.

Some emergency In'n'Out on the drive in remedied the situation and we were off to Fremont St for 3 days to start the journey. Little did I know when I was genuinely recommending my modest hotel upon arrival to friends back home that I'd be rescinding it less than 24 hours later...

FREMONT ST

- So I got in and was anticipating wanting to hibernate because of the general death of the flight process. This obviously never eventuates.

- Was stuck 700 after my first 6 hours after playing 1/2 at Golden Nugget, Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood. Highlight was having an OMC legit tank 3 minutes on calling my 4bet jam after limping sb and 3betting my raise from the BB. His KK held up against my QQ and I started to wonder why I paid money to come to this hell...

- ...but then I woke up the next day and decided to activate the boomswitch. First we won the above pot with 88 to collect my first ever damn promo money in this damn town. SHIP ME SOME RAKE BACK

- I planned on playing at Bellagio in the afternoon but called an audible and went to Aria. This was my first dodged bullet of the day, as simultaneously as I arrived at Aria/would have arrived at Bellagio, the robbery occurred.

- I managed to pull off my greatest feat in the history of poker: I managed to make an OMC spaz off 300bb in a 2/5 game at Aria with 67o after I cbet AA on A45r for 25 into 130. 1300 of it went in after the board paired on turn. Ship it.

- We then ventured out to Red Rock anticipating some 2/5 that never eventuated. Settled for a 1/2 300 cap where I proceeded to continue the godmode and left about 3am with a touch under 1200.

- After day 2 we were suddenly up nearly two dimes and feeling much less depressed. Peacefully parked back at Four Queens and was ready for a good nights sleep when I stepped out of the elevator into the casino lobby.

I was not expecting to see >20 cops sprinting through around me, people screaming, a girl crying, yellow tape hastily being assembled to block off everything in sight and just general chaos.

Apparentely the way I came in to park was the one side of the block not surrounded by copcars dealing with the shooting murder directly outside my hotel window less than 5 minutes before.

Tired as hell and unable to comprehend anything I went straight to my room and lay shaking for a bit not sure if I should anticipate being in a terror attack, a crime scene, if theres someone loose with a weapon or what. When you're tired the stupidest thoughts come to mind.

Found out in the morning that it was a single shot fired in a gang-related dispute. Im not much of one for sensationalising, but I did immediately contact my friends I had told about the hotel that day and let them know I'm safe and its probably not as nice a spot as I'd led them to believe.

Fremonts always been one of my favourite things about Vegas. Im pretty sensible, dont drink on work trips and know how to stay out of trouble so the slightly higher risk of incident never bothered me. It just feels more genuine.

I dont know if I regret my immediate panic thats likely dissuaded friends from giving Fremont a chance, but I definitely dont want one isolated incident to come across as defining my stay there. Don't be stupid and Fremont's safe as houses. Go play at the Nugget. It's rad.

Other fun HHs from the Nugget...

- 3bet 79cc 1000ish deep IP vs a spot, flatted a half pot lead on Jc Tc x and faced a 2x pot jam on the beautiful 8x turn card. He had AJ and suddenly we are stacking a 1000bb pot with 100% equity <3

- Flopped the nut flush after raising pre 3 times in 90 minutes. Won a stack all 3 times. Vs the same guy. Didn't get murdered. Win.

- Bet 600 into 150 on the river of 5 6 7 8 Q with 9T. Got called by not a straight. Uncapped poker is fun poker.

Random stream-of-consciousness interlude about things I've witnessed while here:

POKER

- Jungleman v Gus Hansen HU big bet like 5 metres from my 2/5 at Bellagio

- Negreanu wandering around the room talking to just about every second person as you'd just about expect

- An old lady checking back IP all 3 streets in a limped pot on A23 ddd x x and showing 45dd. She announced her hand as a straight flush so was aware.

- A guy 4betting me 15 -> 80 -> 230 EP vs BB and then tanking over 5 minutes to a 1100 eff jam before folding 44 faceup. If he called and won, I would be found jumping off a pedestrian bridge somewhere to avoid jailtime for my murder charge

- A nice old gentleman politely and genuinely asking me not to raise so much. Spoiler: I didn't honour his wishes

- A young dude deciding the best way to counter me 3betting his really obvious light opens was to 4b rip 200bb with 78 suited. Spoiler: I bought more new shoes, thanks man

- A guy eating an actual entire tub of Ben & Jerrys handpacked at the table. I asked to take a photo because I was jealous.

- Some other good food options at the table which is absurd after coming from Melbourne where I'm stuck with Subway. Bellagio's Socal breakfast roll with an egg omelette, grilled jalapenos, chipotle sauce and jack cheese is the best 2bb I've ever invested at 6am (or had invested for me, cheers Stoobz if you're reading)
