Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

It was downtown and the validation issue was with the California. The whole setup is confusing too because the surface parking lot that says "Main street casino" at the time didn't even validate that parking lot as it's not theirs (it belongs to the California apparently and you need to validate it there even though no sign says California)

This day the issue was with the attached parking garage though (the one that has the elevator directly to the casino).

I only really played there once or twice a week, whenever I wanted to go that Vegan place downtown or if there was a good band playing. Always gave action though even though technically I didn't have to due to my status.

Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

Ill believe MGM going back to free parking when i see it. Even if they do i guarantee they jack up resort fees or come up with another great MGM type of idea to cover it. Have not been to an MGM property (besides mandalay bay) in forever.. like years and ive lived here for 12 years and work on the strip thats how much i hate mgm for ruining Vegas, **** those scumbags.

You didnít bet $160K at the Fremont race book or was it another Boyd casino?

one could argue that by "strongly encouraging" mask wearing, that they are making it somewhat more difficult to access that free oxygen.

Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

When it comes to parking, I will never pay...ever. I would make an exception going to a restaurant with a date. It is good news to hear about MGM, as I wanted to build up points there so I could jump back and forth once in a while with rooms, as I mainly get my rooms at Caesars properties, plus one other place that is too nasty to mention (but it works for me in between Caesars stays..and the rooms are quite nice..still won't mention). I always felt that the MGM was missing out by charging. A lot of people whom play horses would play there, but it rubs people the wrong way to pay for parking until you build up to a certain level to get it free. That and racing forms sets the average person back way too much. I don't pay for forms...ever. Free for me at Caesars properties.

It is good to see that MGM is going to free parking. They really cost themselves a lot of business, because locals, semi locals, and those who come into town often aren't into parking fees, or resort fees for that matter. The day I ever pay a resort fee anywhere will be my first. I would stay up all night or sleep in the car before ever paying a resort fee.

Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

I feel like the people who complain about resort fees simply haven't traveled in the last decade. I mean nobody likes paying more but if they just tacked on an additional 45 dollars to your nightly fee then people would complain about how the hotel is too expensive.

Curious to see how long the free parking lasts. I could see it ending for NYE or last into the middle of next year.

Random tidbit, StubHub a few years ago went to "transparent upfront pricing" or whatever term they used. Basically the price you saw on StubHub was the price you paid at checkout. Their sales dropped big time because people thought StubHub was more expensive than other sits. Soooo they went back to only showing the ticket price before fees.... and that's why resort fees are never going away unless they get outlawed. (Always a chance! This happened to the airlines years ago!)

Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

The problem is that while resort fees went from the merely too-much 20 bucks a night to the outrageous 45 bucks a night, the room charges didn't get any lower and the resort fee "services" didn't get any better. It's just an outright gouge.

Nooooo, now I won't be able to have my enhanced parking experience! The very idea of having to park far from the elevator as I wade through the lot full of freeloading deadbeats makes me want to puke!

Feel like I'm losing lots of value. MGM Gold, after walking from PH to Aria until I got Pearl.

Then I was parking at Mirage to play at Caesars. I've gone from Gold to Diamond just from wsop.com play. Losing parking value, and I'm sure the diamond lounges won't be what they were for awhile. I've wanted Diamond Lounge access for many years, and now this. Sigh.

Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

Resort fees remind me of my HOA.

They wanted to raise our rates, but we voted no. Then they held a secret meeting and created a new fee called an amenities fee which covers the gym, pool, outside areas, etc. So now even though our HOA fee originally included the amenities we have a new fee every month for the same thing.

Our amenities have been closed for two months due to COVID, but they still charge it.

Just like how they'll charge you resort fees even though all the resort things will be closed.

It's the greatest scam of our century. Bigger than all the govt people dumping stock pre corona.

if they could just raised the rates 45 dollars they couldn't charge what they're charging, that's why the rely on scam resort fees that are intentionally deceptive and total bullshit. that's why people have a problem with them.

Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

The only way to get rid of resort fees is to ban them area wide. One casino can't do it because then their prices will look inflated compared to the others when they roll it into their regular room charge.

When I book through MGM MLife at least they add the resort fee and all taxes in when they give you the total for the room before you book it, so you know the real price you are paying.

The thing that gets me though is that the spa fees have doubled over the past 5 years but yet they have taken away amenities like juices and fruits in the locker room. Last time I was there all they had was water and Ginger Ale

Re: MGM casinos now charging for parking..

Resort fees also enable casinos to charge customers for "fully" comped rooms, whether they are paid through comps or cash. Eliminating resort fees will take away a lot of value they are receiving from their regulars. This might lead to lower comps, which will anger their regulars. A lot of things affected.
