Confirmed. Article here:

Please for the love of god, people of Vegas and elsewhere, don't pay them. Grudging acceptance is why resort fees and 6:5 blackjack are ubiquitous.

The race is on for CET to announce that they are charging for parking as well. No chance they will risk having their free lots fill up with MGM freeloaders.

I'm disappointed, but the article does say that you will be able to get free parking priveleges through the M Life program, so I'm hoping poker regulars will have a way to get free parking.

This is insane! Hope a huge amount of people stop going and parking there so they stop doing it and others don't follow.

But basically if you are a resident or at least a player at those casinos then it won't cost you tho right?

this makes some sense at the Grand because that parking structure gets crazy most weekends and insane on large event weekends.

I cant see this at other properties going forward in the immediate future until they can see the effect of it at the premier property.

I'd be willing to cough up 5 bucks with validation possibility... just like they do down town.

I'm guessing it will end up being that no one actually has to pay unless you are a first-time visitor, or don't bother to get an M-Life card. In which case it will probably not really bring enough revenue to be worth the bother of charging. I'm honestly more worried about it really slowing down getting in and out of the parking garages quickly.

I keep seeing the term "over night parking" Does this mean if you just park for 4 hours or so then you would not be charged? Or is it by the hour with a max daily?

Would valet still be free? that wouldn't make much sense.

Ugh.

Quote:
Overnight guests utilizing a self-park facility will pay $10 or less. Las Vegas locals will be given a grace period for free parking after the program begins and can maintain their free-parking status by enrolling and earning privileges through M life, the company's customer loyalty program. Nonresident guests can also earn free-parking status through the M life program.
I've spent a good amount of money on food/slots there so if I ever decided to pay I would just cut down on that other spending to make sure they don't make extra money from me.

Does $10 or less mean I can expect to pay less than $10 at least occasionally?

Problem is if we all start paying, that will encourage them to become even more bold and raise parking prices in the future.

I hope I'm wrong but I took that to mean slot players. And they are so stingy with comps that players would have to lose a lot of money to them to get free parking.

Parking is free if you have a players card. I don't see why the outrage

If that is the case then no big deal of course but it says you can earn the privilege. Maybe you have to level up to earn that.

Huh? Where does it say that?

I assumed that getting parking for having a players card would be the same as getting free food/shows/etc. when you have a players card, which means that if you want "free" stuff you're going to have to pay for it, and you would be better off just paying instead of losing more money trying to get comps for stuff.

It doesn't actually say free with players card, it might require the card plus some gambling.

I imagine they will find a way to keep the poker regulars from being charged. They are actually pretty generous with comps to players, paying $2 an hour in food comps for poker at Bellagio, and I believe at other MGM poker rooms as well.

The article mentions that downtown casinos charge for parking. Technically they do, but I think all validate if you are gambling there. At Binions they just stamp your card when you go to the poker room. Once I didn't even end up playing because the game I was hoping to play didn't go, but they still validated my ticket.

You need a card plus you have to be earning points. So you can't show them a 2 year old card and park for free. Playing poker, table games, slots etc etc will get you free parking

There is a strange phenomenon that happens at Flamingo hotel check in. During busy times you will see a super long line for check in and a much shorter line for card holders, even the lowest level.

The people in the long line are total newbies and do not have a players card at all and if they could just read then they could go grab a card and be thru the shorter line way faster than what they are doing.

The point is that even basic card holders are getting a better check in line, so maybe its possible that you would get free parking just for being a card holder. I doubt it tho.

Guys, the M-Life customer loyalty program is separate from the poker room comps. That's one reason why playing poker in one MGM resorts casino gives you zero dollars in comps if you play at another MGM resort casino.

There is absolutely nothing in that article which tells me they will help the poker players out. Maybe they will, but they may not care enough about poker players and so far they only seem eager to help the gamblers that lose a lot of money to them. This only includes the poker players who lose money playing other gambling games.

Playing poker gives you zero points on your card at MGM properties. If they are going to help out poker players then it will be done in a different way.

I realize it is separate. Supervisor at Bellagio told me they had to make it a separate program to make it work with the Bravo table checkin system. My point is, if some MGM casinos go to the trouble to do that, and to make sure they treat poker players pretty well; good comps and low rake compared with other Vegas poker rooms, I assume they will find some way to help them out with the parking charge. Might be as simple as a validation stamp like they do downtown at Binions.

I really hope you're right. I'll keep spending too much money on other stuff in those casinos if they help the poker players out. I seriously wish someone would come in the thread and show me that I'm really wrong.

Nobody can show anyone is right or wrong, we will all have to wait and find out. The people in poker room management are probably just hearing about this today as well.

They will be charging around $10 for self parking and more for valet.

They will let you park free at a certain tier status and whether they require you to use comps for parking is in the air, but I would count on it. All that means is that they're making you now use comps for something that should be free.

LOL at them giving two flying ****s about poker players. Who do you think you're kidding.

I highly encourage anyone that is as pissed off about this as I am to email your thoughts to comments@mlife.com. I'm sure they'll take those comments and throw them in Lake Mead, but it's better than doing nothing.

Um, I am not trying to kid anyone, I have given evidence to show that MGM properties do seem to care about being attractive to poker players. If you have any counter evidence please presnt it, instead of just spouting off.

Especially Bellagio does; I know they want to continue to be seen as the premier poker room, and they need the patronage of locals to continue that.
