There is no such thing as "natural immunity" to a pathogen, particularly one that has not been experienced before by the human population. Everyone has an immune system; our systems learn to deal with pathogens by experience. And even a robust immune system doesn't confer immunity; it enables resistance to pathogens.

This is precisely what made Covid and its variants so deadly. Our immune systems were unprepared.

As for the stupid, stupid argument you keep making about shutdowns--well, they may have existentially traumatized YOU, and none of us liked them, but they didn't have the effects you fantasize about. But you know what really ruins lives?

Well, madrobin is a retired teacher so perhaps he's just educating us properly. Apparently we're not very bright, as he's explained on numerous occasions.

And by "educating us properly" I mean pretty much all of us, no matter our political views. I'm a liberal and even still I've been unable to escape his wrath.

So I guess if he consistently berates everyone, no matter their views, the moderators just let it go.

And since we're talking about masks--it's impossible to leave politics out of the discussion. The RepubliQ made non-mask-wearing a sign of fealty to The Orange One. Furthermore, in red states, wearing a mask has been derided as being cowardly and unmanly, because, y'know, the governor told us there's nothing to worry about.

That, it turn, has spawned ridiculous claims such as that only liberals contract Covid, and of course, the pernicious lies spread by the conservative propaganda machine. So I really wish that Covid mitigation wasn't a political topic. But the MAGA Morons have made it exactly that.

The faux outrage isn't because of what I say or whom I say it to. It comes from people who disagree with me, and want to see me silenced as a result.

Often, the reason they disagree with me is that they tout some nonsensical conspiracy-theory based bullcrap re a critical topic such as Covid mitigation measures, and I object. Perhaps that's because I lost two good friends to Covid last year. I mean, rave on all you want about the space alien mushrooms or the Pringles conspiracy. I don't care. But when you spread misinformation that kills people, that's a different story.

We'd have reached herd immunity, been able to fully reopen without any negative consequences, and be in no danger from the Delta variant if it wasn't for all that misinformation and people's susceptibility to it.

A statement as dumb as this is a sign someone needs to back away from the keyboard.

Do you know that everyone born in the US prior to 1972 has a circular scar on their arm? It's from the smallpox vaccine. Do you know why nobody born after 1972 has the same scar? Because everyone got the vaccine and we eradicated smallpox from the face of the Earth.

The information from literally thousands of reputable scientists is out there. Every nation in the world is not in on some big conspiracy or power trip to make you wear a mask. Who would benefit from that? No one would.

Please, stop. You have no idea what you are talking about. Comparing covid to smallpox is your first dumb mistake. We have flu vaccines, but the flu is still around.

No reputable scientist now thinks we could have eradicated covid through vaccines and NPIs. Mutations and how easily it spreads makes that impossible.

As far as masks, I don't really care one way or the other. I wasn't talking about masks. I was talking about the statement that there is even the slightest chance that covid could have been eradicated by now. That statement is ridiculously false, and you are competing to be the mayor of moronville by defending it.

It wouldn't be eradicated, but it would be similar in scope to the flu, allowing everyone to live normally, exercise basic hygiene, and be a reasonable burden on our medical system and personnel.

I'm going to Louisiana next month. I'm gonna have to mask up b/c their hospitals are full again, because they are at 37% vax rate. If they were at 75% vax rate, I wouldn't be wearing a mask on my trip.

Oh, and hundreds less people would also die.

Allegiance Stadium hosted a game with over 61k fans. They had to wear masks (obviously), employees were telling people to wear masks, but from watching on tv I thought around 70-75 percent weren’t covering their nose and mouth with a mask.
