Is this really a good thing? I never hated this room like some did but I prefer fewer rooms when a larger percentage of them have higher stakes.

I believe they had to give away the promo fund because of gaming regulations. Like they can't hold the promo funds in perpetuity if there's a chance the room won't reopen again.

If MGM is going to reopen low level rooms they closed during covid, I would very much prefer the Mirage

Might have to do with location, so that the South end of the strip get an operative poker room as well. Regardless, any poker room reopening (or opening) counts as good news to me!

Bravo App says Mandalay poker will be reopening tomorrow July 22

Very limited hours for now : Thurs thru Monday, 3PM - 11PM

Bravo also says that all cash games have the option to be played with or without promotions and the only promos listed now are tiny high hands of $50 for quads, $100 for straight flushes, and $250 for royals.

I hope there is more demand for non-promo tables and they just go no jackpot drop once they reopen fully.

I'll go check it out, easy access from the south side of town, easy parking, lots of dining choices, decent crew of dealers, cocktail servers.

it was always a very nice , open air , uncrowded setting in which to play recreational poker. Hope they did not mess that aspect up.

And they used to pay out their high hand winnings in chips that had to be added to your live stack. And those chips usually got distributed around the table.
So you get your rake back that way.

It would be nice if $1/3 becomes the norm there instead of $1/2. Anything other than $1/2 NL was uncommon there before but hopefully that can change

We look at it from the opposite point of view.

We want the tourists and bad regs concentrated in fewer rooms. Better table selection, less "grinders" killing action with their nit tendencies...

Agree that MB is a weird choice. It seemed to me Mirage was busier overall and gives the MGM customer a north Strip alternative.

Have you looked at a map? They close Hacienda Ave to use as a foot bridge from Mandalay Bay parking garage to Allegiant Stadium.

MB has always been kind of a miserable room... not for any inherent aesthetic reason, I just never felt fond of it in terms of action.

it can go off sometimes, but most of the time it's been miserable. there's more 'tight' action at South Point and Orleans...

If they hope to be more than a convenient spot for after football poker, they need to find a niche to fill.

I played a couple of sit-n-gos there and enjoyed it, but the wife and I are more middle of the strip people and we would need very compelling reasons to venture that far down to play poker.

I second the motion. Better yet, reopen both the Mandalay Bay poker room and the Mirage poker room. The Mirage was a great place to play during the Super Bowl with great promotions. I noticed the same group of loose fun loving guys from Canada that livened up the Mirage poker room during super bowl week-end several years. When it was hard to find an open seat on the strip during the WSOP, I could usually find one at the Mirage. It is a legendary room that ought to reopen.
