I used to drive 45 - 50 minutes each way, and I didn't mind it at all. Granted, it was open road with no traffic and no lights, so not bad at all. However, I was driving normal a.m. and p.m. hours.

Now, it's annoying for me to drive just over an hour to go anywhere, even the casino!

It costs commuters going from Long Island to NYC $30+/day for train and gas. I can't imagine.

OP, keep playing with the bands as back-up salary

It's a weekly 1/2 NL game hosted by Vegas youtube vlogger The Trooper every Thursday evening at the Westgate casino. Anyone can play. He also plays 1/2 on other days around town.

Austin, it seems like you actually thought this thru and you have experience in this field already (even if you failed, it is experience non the less.) I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted on your first weekend!

All the best. Highly recommend you find a full time job with flexible hours while pursuing poker part time until you can grow your bankroll to the point of being more comfortable with inevitable losses. I'm sure you are well aware by now that a 10k BR while mixing in 2/5 and tournaments has the potential to evaporate quickly and now you're grinding 1/2 full time, selling hats and making YT videos pondering your next big move. Good luck, OP!

Tracking your wins and losses is one of the most important things a serious player should be doing. You can download an app on your phone, the one I use is called Poker Income. it's only about 5 bucks after the first 10 sessions.

Good Luck at the tables!

I really tried to. I wanted to eliminate as much outside risk as possible and especially with me having to to commute a little bit. Speaking of the commute it’s really not bad at all. 90% Highway or freeway and I know the back roads to stay off LV Blvd hahahah. Again thanks for the well wishes and I will be posting in here and the Live NL strat forum. 👍🏼

Already thought about that and a full time job is what I just came from and afforded me the opportunity to do this so I’m not going to just jump into another one. I’m comfortable with my ability to make the BR that I have work. I also have other sources of income to help cover expenses (gas, car insurance, food, etc) that do not require me to work anything near a full time job. I don’t have any drug addictions, I’m not an alcoholic, I can’t stand pit games, I don’t sports bet, and I have an awesome wife so my life is stable. I appreciate the advice and well wishes!

That's all? I knew people commuting into San Francisco that were spending $20 on gas, $7 on bridge toll, and $50 for parking every day.

I once heard a (probably apocryphal) story that some guy would drive in Manhattan for work, and go to the Quicky-Lube place for an oil change, every day. Spent $30/day or something essentially for parking, but got fresh oil daily.

Hour wait for 1-3 already so I jumped in the noon $240 tournament

There's always a wait at the Aria, but it's decent poker. GL in the tourney. Tough competition. Don't get me wrong, I love the Aria -- beautiful room, good drinks (although they are skimping on wine and champagne now), good dealers. However, the player pool can be tough at certain times. Lots of tourists there, too, though, so 1/3 isn't too bad. 2/5 is boring! I love the PLO there.

Out of the tourney. KK < AQ aipf. Really card dead so hopefully we got that out of the way. Buddy of mine is over at the Venetian so we’re gonna play some 1/2 there.

Well not a great day but considering how I ran it could have been a lot worse. Jumped into the $240 tournament (which looking back on it might have been a little impulsive/impatient) and really didn’t see much in the way of hands. First decent hand I see is 9♦️9♠️ on the button with blinds of 300-600 and my stack is 17k. 2 limpers to me I make it 1900 to go get one call out of the SB who has been pretty quiet. Flop is K♣️ J♦️ 6♣️ and he checks. I bet 2000 and he raises to 5200. I fold. I then get K♣️K♠️ UTG. 400-800 blinds and my stack is 15.9k. I raise to 3.2 and get 2 callers. A♥️9♥️J♣️ flop. I check and fold to an All In bet out of MP and a Call from the CO. Shows down AJ>AQ. Blinds at 500-1000, stack is 12.3k and I pick up K♥️K♠️ in MP. UTG limps and I jam. A♠️Q♣️ calls out of the SB and flops an A and I never improved. Headed to the Venetian to meet a buddy and play 1/2 as there was still an hour wait for 1/3. Sat down with $300 and the table appears to be pretty active. This is just what I needed! First hour I don’t see anything other than 93o and K2o it seems hahahah. Pick up J♠️J♣️ in MP and UTG opens for $12. UTG has been playing pretty loose so I make it $35. Folds to the button who shoves for $106 and it folds back around to me. I call and he shows 10♦️10♠️ and flops a 10 and I never improve. Stay unbelievably card dead and a lot of A/x in terrible position or already raised pots. Pick up 6♣️6♥️ in the SB. UTG+1 makes it $12 and gets 4 callers. I call the $10 and we go to the flop 6 handed. Flop is 6♠️Q♠️9♥️. Raiser checks, I bet $50 and CO jams for another $75. It folds to me and I call. Turn card is the 9♠️ and J♦️ on the river. I show my full house and he mucks. Card dead for another couple hours, table changes and becomes super tight so I leave. All in all not a great day but it could have been a lot worse. Very card dead and then in bad spots when I did have a semi-playable hand. Made $140 back at the cash table and wound up stuck $100 for the day. I did however come to the conclusion that I prefer and am most comfortable at the Venetian. It’s where I’ve played the most since I’ve been living out here. Free parking is also a big plus! On to the next one though. Tomorrow is a new day!
