wow i didn't know that was actually a hotel. just thought bluegreen was some weird mall in a terrible location.

bluegreen is like a 15 minute walk to MGM. the walk won't be pleasant but at night it won't be that dangerous, you are right by the airport, not very residential, shouldn't see too many shady characters.

Not a bad walk at all distance wise. I'm sure you'll be fine making the trip any time of day but it's not a trip I would want to make at night. Mostly because I watch too much Law and Order and Cops.

Question for LVL...

I have no ability to get comped a killer room, because I don't play table games or anything. My better half and I are double income and enjoy vegas. Last time we stayed at the Venetian, in a regular suite (not palazzo), and enjoyed the room for the price (~200 a night)

Next time I take her, I want to pre-book a decent suite. So, the question to LVL is which hotel will give me the best suite for say 500-600 a night? The budget number is not super firm, but I have no desire to pay over 1k a night for sure, since its just two of us and we dont throw parties in our room or anything. Is Palazzo concierge my best option? Or could I get one of the very primo-est suites at one of the older casinos for that price?

Long and short of it, whats the best room 500$ a night can buy in vegas for two?

Weekend or weeknight? On the wrong weekend, that won't even buy you a standard Wynn room.

You also have to decide what you want. Do you want really nice furnishings and lots of space? Probably TI or Mirage would be best. Do you want "prestige" and nose-in-the-air atmosphere? Wynn is probably best, although that price will not get you far above a standard room, maybe 1 step above.

It will be a weekend trip i guess. I spose 500$ a night is just not balla enough for that town. I was hoping for like a mega nice strip view, high up in the hotel, somewhere that was nearish top floor for a hotel, certainly not the penthouse at the wynn or anything, just looking for somewhere where we felt like we were living the good life as opposed to feeling like third class citizens only spending 500 a night. So I guess I would rather have the 2nd best room at the luxor as opposed to the 2nd worst room at the wynn. I'm not sure where that would put me so I again solicit the advice, best use of my 500 a night?

Any advice is good advice,

thanks!

Trust me, you would rather have the 2nd worst room at Wynn over the 2nd best at Luxor.

I'd suggest going to the following hotel sites and checking out the options (they're all up there): Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Encore, Mirage, Bellagio, Aria, Mandalay Bay, THEHotel. I have a feeling that the best bang for your buck will be the last two options on the list.

Palazzo concierge suite is not what you think it is. The concierge levels at Venetian and Palazzo are standard rooms but come with various concierge amenities, like a semi-private lounge for all the guests. You pay $150 a night more for that. Totally not worth it.

Also note before you book that the standard rooms in Tower Suites at Wynn and Encore are essentially the same thing- same rooms as the regular hotel with a bit nicer surroundings outside of it.

Just check out the next-step-up suites at all the hotels above, and you will find something you like for the right price.

Im moving to Vegas in March. Im looking for opinions on a good safe place to live. im looking for a 1br or studio apartment. I do know enough about vegas that the safer parts of town are on the west side of the strip. while i have searched online and found some decent places to check into im wondering if anyone has any experience that may help in finding a good safe place.

thanks

+1 for THEHotel, got an H suite in feb last year for a few nights (mid-week) for around $450 a night. I originally booked the room for a couple hundred more than that a night but happened to check the rate a couple days before we left.

So... I hate buffets, but everyone else I'm going with LOVES them, so I figured I'd ask on here...

These new 24 hr buffet things... are the buffets actually open for 24 hrs, or do they just mean that the ticket is good for 24 hrs, and that you can eat whatever meals you can within that time period, DURING open hours?

For instance, are the buffets open from 7-3, and then 5-10 and you can try to get in a meal at noon, then a meal at 6:00, and then another at 10:00 am the next day? Or are they actually open where you can go at 3:00 am for a late night snack after losing all your money? OR, is this casino dependent?

Anyone know offhand which casinos have this? My mom seemed to think most of the MGM/Mirage group ones, but I'd like to hear from someone more reliable.

Thanks!

Buffets typically open at 7am and close at 10pm. Most are open constantly during that time, but a few may close for 30 minutes or an hour when they switch from breakfast to lunch and lunch to dinner. The all-day thing just lets you eat EVERY meal at the buffet, but not 24 hours a day.

But I've never done an eat-all-day thing and have no plans to do so (SHuDDeR--the very thought makes me cringe). Best deal I recall seeing was Rio for $25/day, but that means you have to be at Rio (off the strip) every time you want to eat, and that doesn't sound convenient at all. IP is $25/day but I wouldn't eat there for free. I've seen such an offer at Excalibur, but I wouldn't pay $5/day to eat at Excal. Others that have it (or at least, had it) include MGM, Mandalay Bay, maybe Luxor.

Excalibur buffet is worth $5/day. It's as good as (or as bad as, depending on your opinion) Hometown Buffet. If one sticks with the healthier options (grilled chicken vs. fried chicken, salad and vegetables vs. gravy-drenched meat, vinegarette dressing vs. Thousand Island, etc) and is planning to be around the Excalibur all day anyway, I'd consider $5/day a great deal.

I have a feeling that like others said, you might be very very happy with a room at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. You want either "The Suite" or "V Suite. Both are one bedroom suites and most weekends are substantially less than $500 a night. The drawback is its difficult to walk to many places(take the money you save and use cabs).

I stayed there in November and was very happy with my room.

This may be a shot in the dark so didn't want to start a whole new thread

Does anyone know of any firms that help casinos when they are deciding to renovate? Such as helping them decide how and why to rearrange tables / slots, things that could be added to improve the gaming experience and the income for the casino etc.

thanks

I would be very interested to see if anybody else had any ideas on this.
The Internet Poker forum has a long running tranfer thread that is not sanctioned or guaranteed in any way by TwoPlusTwo, but is very active and includes requests for the kind of transfer you want to make.

As mentioned previously, only a table full of myopic nits would do anything but welcome this player warmly and with all the fondness the big bad wolf wrapped up in grandma's nightdress reserves for little red riding hood.

That's a fine suggestion. You can also send it to the hotel. It happens all the time, though they are likely to charge you a "business office" fee of some kind. Call ahead and ask.

I'm have a conference to go to in Vegas at Mandalay Bay in early February. What are my best options for hotels to stay in that aren't too far but are cheap and decent? Thanks for any info.

I gather you've not read word one or attempted any sort of search on this matter yourself have you?

I would stay at Mandalay Bay. It's on the very end of the "Strip" so you've not got many options. Nearby you have (From closest to farthest):

Luxor : Dump with annoying elevators
Excalibur: Run down family friendly dump
Tropicana: Old ass dump
Hooters: Fratboy Crash Pad Dump

The MGM Grand is a block away but not TOO bad of a walk. Rooms can be had on the cheap and are decently appointed compared to other options nearby.

Mandalay Bay has some pretty nice rooms and you might have some discounted room options thanks to the convention. Look into that.

Is there generally a big jump in the standard of play between 1/2, 2/5 and 5/10?

I'm a winning 200nl reg online so expect to probably be able to beat upto 5/10 (from what I've heard), but I'm not really well enough rolled for it so don't really want to play that high when I'm in Vegas unless I'm pretty confident of crushing it.

Difference in the standard? Yes, moreso in the jump to 5/10 than 2/5. But a difference large enough to sway the tide to difficult for a competant online player? No. You would be a fav in almost every 10/20 game if you have the ability to detach yourself from dollar amounts.

MGM to the MB convention center is one helluva walk. The convention center is at the far end.

I stayed there once because a conference was there. Never again. It makes the Rio to Amazon Room walk seem like they're next to each other. It's a long-ass walk on cobblestone tile. I stay somewhere else and drive there. Even if I was staying there, I would drive to the convention center.
