All right. Cheers. We've decided on gambling after having some further discussions via e-mail and checking out googlemaps. Should be fine.

The penalty is them taking your cash and making it very difficult to get it back. Yes, they will take it all. You'll need a lawyer and records of your poker winnings to get it back.

This has happened to 2p2 members before and it is very stupid to try. I would highly not recommend it.

Travers Checks still need to be declared, and they are a hassle. You can't just sit down at a poker game and use them. You'll need to go to the main cage and get them converted into chips. I did this once on a trip to the Bahamas and the overall effort and hassle was not worth it.

So, 10k + t. checks still has to be declared because t.checks are considered to be cash?

god the USA is tilting me and i havent even left yet

i gave up on the wire idea since even the venetian says they will only let you use 15% as cash, the rest can either be gambled or wired back when i leave.

wtf.

rios staff are all clearly retarded and the wsop people never answer the phone, i guess i will just bring cash, declare it and hope they don't detain me for too long/i dont get mugged.

It would get the equivalent of "declared" anyway when your bank wired it.

Rio Sucks Balls

I wired 20k to the main cage this morning, using the instructions they gave me. I called when I got in to check on the wire. They told me "try tomorrow or the next day." I explained that a wire is a single day transaction. They explained that they have various obfuscating rituals that are unknown to the cage personale and that there is nothing they can do.

In how many days should I expect to see my money? If you worked the register at a fast food joint, would you have better customer service skills than the cage supervisor?

The money is actually wired to the bank that the casino uses. They will collect the wire information in the morning and send the information to the cage. Wires are instant, but the information going from their bank account to the people who work the cage are not.

You are facing confiscation of the money and a fine if you do not declare it and it is found.

As DoGGz stated, Traveler's Cheques, cashiers checks, non-USD currency, all count as cash. If you are traveling with a family member, then all of your funds are counted as one lump sum. If the sum is greater than $10,000 then you must declare it.

Please note that there is no duty on the money you are declaring on entry into the US. You will be taking a large risk for what would seem to be zero reward.

Thank you for your reply. I know how it works. It was the "...or the next day" part that I was upset about. And the cage supervisor seemed to think it normal and okay for their accounting people to sit on it for a day or two before giving it to the cage. And she didn't seem to see why that should be a problem for me. Or care at all in anyway about anything.

Check last year's WSOP threads. Lots of people had problems with wires.

I don't think you'd have any problem trading cash in LV for online money. It lets whoever is getting the cash dodge taxes(most likely they will), and lets you do the same.

Just wanted to see what the cost of renting a car will be for someone thats <25 y/o. Thinking about renting a car but I'm not sure if its worth my time to or if I'm better of taking a cab everywhere. I'm probably living off the strip crashing in a house on the other side of the airport, so cabbing might get costly so was thinking about renting a car. All online sites gives quotes but those are costs that are for 25< I'm assuming but wanted to see if anyone has any experience renting when they were <25.

add about 150-200/week to the rates you see online.

Most places wont rent high end cars to you at all if youre under 25 though.

Ok, thanks for the replyes, guys. I will probably just take 10k with me (if it's exactly 10k would i need to declare it or do i have to have 9999 to make it ok?).

Stevie - the reward is definitely not zero, you'd have to be an israeli and know the israeli IRS to understand why, but still, there are ways around the problem and i'd rather not to have my monies confiscated obv.

Ace - i understand what's the benefit for me to send ppl money online and cash instead, but who would want to buy online money for cash?
The majority of 2+2ers who are gonna be in Vegas are winning players who are looking to cashout money from online sites, not to do the opposite.

Thanks. Not looking to rent high end cars anyways (if I do rent) since most of the time it'll be spent parked inside a casino.

Re: Rio Sucks Balls

I went down there this morning. They told me that they had actually received my wire on day shift yesterday, but the seemed to have misplaced it. The person I spoke to on phone on swing yesterday did not know. But they were so rude about it and so was the supervisor.

When I got there this this morning, the mids supervisor was still there. She was super nice, sorry for the trouble, gave me her card, offered to call my cell so I didn't have to hang around, stayed until it was done, etc, etc. When I told my wife this, she said, "She doesn't know the Harrahs way, she should quit being so nice or she is going to get fired!" LOL

So, problem solved. As of 11:00am, live games area not open, but they let me in to get a box. SNGs were rolling pretty good, but I wasn't into it so I left.

I can't speak to the age issue, but I can tell you that you save about $150 a month by picking up somewhere other than the airport. Try Enterprise, they generally seem to have reasonable policies about other things. gl.

Take 9900 just to be safe.

Good advice. Enterprise at a dealership will get you in a car MUCH MUCH cheaper then the airport. I got a Mustang for $50/day last year, with many options near $30.

Re: General Vegas Discussion/Questions/ETC - Post your quick questions here

What experiences have non-US people had driving in Vegas ??

I worked out that cab fare for 4 weeks would easily set me back more than $1k+ maybe closer to $2k and that money could be better spent down strippers G-strings, so I'm thinking about getting a car.

I'm staying at Signature, and planning to play a lot of events at Binions and Golden Nugget as well as the RIO.

I have driven exactly once in the USA, and that was in Albuquerque, which is probably a little bit different to Las Vegas Blvd and the freeways.

Bear in mind I'm from Australia, so we drive on a different side of the left side of the road and the driver is on the right of the car etc.

The biggest problem I had in NM was looking up to my left to see the rear vision mirror, which strangely wasn't there ... it's a very weird experience.

I'm ok with Vegas directions having been there several times, but the actual driving kinda freaks me out. Advice ??

I can't speak from the non US perspective, though having seen Mad Max 6 times i find it difficult to believe that austrailians would have problems driving in our country.

Serious side note though -- for a US city vegas is not that bad. I've lived and drove in 8 or 9 major US cities and vegas was probably the easiest to get around. (esp in the summer which is kind of a slower time for tourists)
It doesnt even hold a candle to cities like philly and LA (which off hand i would say are the worst).

Driving on the blvd is slow, but not really tricky providing you give you give yourself plenty of time to get into the lane you need to get into. Ppl drive pretty fast on the highways, but theyre mostly 3 and 4 lanes, so as long as you stay in the right lanes and drive around the speed limit or slightly above, ppl arent going to be that pissed.

LV has a great driving advantage: space. There's space to put rodes and that makes driving and navigating so much easier. Outside driving on the strip at night, there's not that many traffic jams I've been stuck in.
