Last time I offered it at a MGM property it was refused, but they did offer a discounted upgrade.

What are you trying to get for your $20? That will define success or not. If you think $20 is worth something they would otherwise just give you for asking nicely, then it will work almost all of the time. But if you think $20 is going to get you a corner suite or something that actually has upgrade value, it won’t.

Are there any threads about running in Vegas? I searched, but it is not an easy topic to find. I know there are lots of places to run outside of the city, but I was looking closer to the strip.

Lots of people run the strip first thing in the morning.

A poster here, pure aggression, is a big runner

What exactly are you looking for?

When I am in Vegas, I run (almost) every morning because I don’t have my bike and there’s no lap pool on the Strip. But I just step out of the hotel and start running North on the Strip. Depending on how far I want to go, I get to Downtown (10 miles out and back) or turn around earlier for a shorter distance.

You were going to be the person I hit up if I didn't get much of a response, but if there was more interest then I was considering starting a thread.

The last handful of times I've been to Vegas have been in the summer, which involves running at 5am if I am going to do anything over 5 miles. I've been going over the walkway by Caesar's, taking a right at Decatur, and then back to the strip by TI. I've also gone up to UNLV to do track workouts. Last month I ran from Cosmo, to the Dispensary, and back (via the walkway by Caesar's to the Rio). 7.65 miles.

I am planning a trip for the 2nd week of October and am excited to not have to run at the crack of dawn. Still, I will be drinking/eating well and will probably cap it at 10mi. I'm fine doing what I have been doing, but am curious if there are other routes I should be checking out. Maybe something by the new stadium? I wouldn't mind checking out the construction on foot. I tried to look for a route last month, but I wasn't sure there was a good way to go west from NYNY or Luxor by foot.

Basically anything I should be checking out (even if it's a great spot to watch the sunrise) or a better route to avoid a million cross streets.

For me, the main problem with running close to the Strip at any time later than 7AM is the annoying amount of traffic that also leads to frequent stopping.

Unless construction prohibits it, you should be able to run by the new stadium. A couple years ago I tried a loop going South on the Strip and then back North on Dean Martin (before that area became a stadium construction site). Not bad to run down there but pretty boring.

You could also run towards UNLV on E. Harmon and run for a bit on campus. That area is pretty quiet in the morning.

I think the closest green space from the Strip is Sunset Park which is Southeast of the airport and has a couple trails where you can get some miles in. But according to Google Maps, that’s already 6 miles from the Strip just to get there. So unless you want to drive there, that’s probably only an option if you’re looking for a 15-16 miler.

15 miles isn't out of the question, but not sure if running 12 miles to get in 3 on trails is very appealing. I run through parks all the time, so I don't mind sticking to streets. When I ran last month, traffic wasn't an issue at 9am, but I can see how it could be. I'll keep that in mind when trying to find a route. Thanks for the advice.

Last time I was in Vegas I stuck to the strip and forgot to hit "downtown".

Looking to make that happen this time around on a Saturday night.

Anyone got a basic itinerary for a basic couple that likes to eat moderately priced meals and drink moderately priced drinks in an unpretentious setting?

Or is good enough to just show up and figure it out on the fly.

How close to the strip in actuality was the most recent officer involved shooting?

Paradise and Karen(near Sahara) at the corner of Westgate. Near SLS, and a couple minute drive to Wynn.

A good itinerary which isn't quite just downtown. Start at Circus Circus for dinner at the Steakhouse. Then head to Palace Station and play video poker and have free craft beer at the bar. Then make your way to Freemont and stop wherever you would like to go.

Lots of good, inexpensive, options downtown. Tony Romo has a prime rib special for, if I remember correctly, under $10 that is really good. Other places have their own deals. Not like on the strip at all, price wise. Much more affordable - and complete with 3 stages full of live (free) entertainment, street performers, and of course the light show every hour.

Not sure if Tony Romo will have much time to prepare prime rib this Fall. The NFL season is about to start and CBS needs him there.

(FWIW, I think that $8.99 special at Tony Roma’s ends at 6:30PM so you may want to plan for an early dinner there)

Someone who specifically wants to go downtown shouldn’t be detouring to Circus Circus and Palace Station first. There’s plenty of shitholes downtown that can substitute for those.

I’d hit up Triple George Grill for an unpretentious but still good dinner but yeah OP you can play it be ear.

That was the most stunning thing about downtown for the the wife and me.

That some places still took, and gave, coins.

Is there any way to keep Total Rewards points active from abroad/internationally?

They expire after 6 months and this was a deterrent to me giving a f*co about them the last time I was in town in 2017.

https://www.sayandplay.com/

You take a survey that might take 15 minutes and earn a few credits but that resets the 6 months.

Just check a week or so later at the rewards site and make sure it gave you credit for it.

Sorry for the typo - you're right it is Tony Roma's. Don't they also have a late night special though for the after 9:00 crowd? I forget the particulars as we always eat earlier than that.

Also, I would be amiss not to mention Heart Attack Grill. Awesome shakes, and you get enough calories in a meal to last a week!! Anyone weighing over 350 lbs. gets to eat for free (and a scale is helpfully provided right outside.

All the wait staff are dressed like nurses, with a "Dr." running things behind the bar. A fun place to visit.

Don't volunteer to get a spanking from the nurse though. I learned my lesson the hard way.

You can get the Caesars Rewards credit card. As long as you make some sort of purchase every so often on it, your points stay active (not tier points, just your reward points).
