Hey guys, coming to Vegas in Sept, have been doing research but a couple of quick questions:

I want to play 2 tournaments, one as a warm up/get a feel for live poker again (been years) and one with a decent sized buy in that runs on a week day (200-500), any recommendations on what to play?

Also where’s the best place to go for weed, as a complete weed noob?

There are weed dispenseries all over the place, you wouldn't have a hard time finding one, but it is only legal to be used in a private home, so unless you're visiting a friend who is ok with you smoking in his house, don't get excited about being someplace that it's legal.

No troll, just letting him know that it's not really legal for tourists under most circumstances. I'm sure there are a lot of uninformed tourists who think Las Vegas is like Amsterdam now and I wouldn't want to see him get in trouble if he tries to light one up in a casino.

You can also be arrested if you try to take it home with you on an outbound plane, though they do inform people of that by having special places to dispose of it at the airport.

It’s super easy and relatively save to buy weed and most other popular drugs in Vegas. The reason why people ask about dispensaries is because they want to do it legally. So telling them what they are legally allowed to do with the stuff they bought at a dispensary is certainly not a troll.
You also get in trouble if you light up one in a casino in Amsterdam, they are all non smoking except for designated areas. You are also not allowed to smoke weed on the street in Amsterdam. If you do, especially around children, people will think “f’n tourists” and if a cop sees you he’ll tell you to stop and not do it again. The main difference between Vegas and Amsterdam is that you are allowed to smoke in the dispensaries (aka coffee shops) in the latter and that cops in Europe have better things to do than citing or locking up people for minor offenses.

They are working toward licensing pot lounges and events where it's legal to light up but we are not there yet.

it's not legal to smoke weed in hotel rooms but every time you step off a hotel elevator you're -900 to smell weed in the hallway, -200 to smell it in a parking garage, and +110 to spot someone smoking a vape pen walking through a casino. the people who get in trouble are the ones smoking joints on las vegas blvd in front of undercover cops. you can also buy edibles and then there's zero chance of anything happening to you.

I think pot in Nevada might support its own thread.

FYI it was also always illegal for non-dutch tourists to buy or possess pot in Amsterdam or anywhere in the Netherlands for that matter. But just like in Vegas nobody ever cared.

Thanks for the advice on weed, I wasn’t planning on smoking in a casino or smuggling any home to Australia though.

Any thoughts re my tournament question? Is there a good regular tournament worth 200-500 that would be good to play? If not I may just stick to cash..

Did some scrolling but hard to search on the phone so taking the noob way out: looking for a bar recommendations on the strip, not upscale like chandelier bar but more hang out for a few gites have some drinks and people watch and not break the bank. Going to be with my dad uncle brother and cousin

pretty sure flamingo has a bar that's on the strip where you can sit and watch foot traffic and get cheap drinks. they used to have dollar drafts.

o'shea's would be another option. the bar is offset by 20 feet or so but easy to view the strip whilst drinking cheapish guiness or whisky.

casino royale has 2 dollar margaritas and beers, but the bar itself doesn't offer a view of the strip. you'd need to buy booze and then stand on the sidewalk.

Agree that he should know the rules. Agree with above poster that many are doing it. Discretion is key. I would imagine spots like the stairs near Absinthe outside of Caesar's, and the ramp going up from the strip to Bellagio along the fountains, and the sidewalk/stairway between Cosmo and Vdara/Aria...and many other spots, would be fine. What about the "exhale into a towel in the bathroom with the fans on" method? I've only heard about that one...

Margaritaville used to have this, but I guess that is closing. The bar you are referring to is just outside the poker room at Flamingo. and it's GUINNESS ffs. (pet peeve).

Is all of Margaritaville closing? I read that the casino might shut down but not the restaurant?

Vital Vegas says the casino is closing and the bar is rebranding but the restaurant is hella successful and staying as is.

That would make a lot of sense to me. I have no idea why, but the restaurant is always ridiculously busy.

Little trivia. Margaritaville was supposed to be a Baywatch themed restaurant/bar, then 911 happened and the plans fell apart.
