Im 100% sure that I did. This was like the first week Uber was operational though, Im not sure if it moved or maybe signage wasnt that great, I dunno. I just remember thinking that time I wish I had taken a cab,m but I havent tried again because Ive just been asking my host to send someone to meet me at baggage claim.

Request your Uber/Lyft before you've left the terminal and unless there is zero cab line, you're getting out of the airport faster. The extra walk to get to the pickup area is inconsequential.

Since Verizon is awful out here, what are some cell providers with good coverage in S/SW Vegas?

I got longhauled by an Uber driver (McCarran to Harrah's), I suppose many of them also drive taxis and know the drill.
I saw him deviate from the route shown on the gps but I was really tired after a long flight and not in a mood to confront him. Needless to say he got no tip and a 1star rating and a customer complaint.

Isn't the rate locked in before you depart?

Are rates fairly cheap first week December? I'm seeing like $60 - $90 per night on the strip.

Generally yes, but you can incur extra charges. If you don't get in the car within 3 minutes of the driver arriving you'll be charged more or if you end up going a different route it can cause the rate to be different. (This usually comes up if you ask the driver to make a pit stop)

I've flexed by maybe $.50.

Uber drivers should "long haul" you -- the longer route is often faster but more expensive for cabs that charge by mile.

Also the marathon was going on today so traffic was crazy. Uber's traffic info is not always reliable.

Feel free to post the map from your trip but deviating from the uber map is totally standard and doesn't cost you more.

Convention traffic is light in December. Overall a slow month for the city.

the tip option is available in the app now so more people probably tip now .....I think Uber has default tip amounts of $1, $3, and $5 on short rides but you can enter any amount you want

This would be a horrific longhaul in a cab, but in an uber (or if you are just driving) it is completely standard:

Maybe I'm a jerk but I rarely tip uber.

Re: LVL FAQ, Quick Questions, General Vegas Discussion, Etc

I thought the Uber price was locked in too. I rarely use it but caught a ride to the airport last month and it was $10 more than I was quoted. It was like 4:30 in the morning with no traffic so the only thing I can figure is that it was because I said fine when the driver asked me if he could go a different route. I emailed and complained. At first they said it was because I requested to be taken somewhere different but refunded the extra charge when I replied that that was incorrect. Maybe the driver didn't close out the ride right away, I don't know.

Wyman- you are aware that Uber charges in the same way that a cab would, right? Distance + time driven, it's just much lower in an uber than a cab due to the lack of necessary overhead. A longhaul is really still a longhaul, you just can't tell because the fare is so much more reasonable.

Yeah - and hey, maybe I'm wrong. But I'll say that I used uber exclusively for around 2 years here (until August when I finally bought a second car), and in that time I've never seen actual cost deviate meaningfully from the estimated costs, and we re-route a lot, whether the driver chooses to or whether I do. And in uberpool, it's almost always been exact.

Some of my friends don't believe I even own a car, you can follow me on snapchat @Uberpassenger407 ... what I'm saying is that I use Uber a LOT. They used to have the prices listed on their website. Mileage at $x per 1/2 mile as well as $y per minute, all very low numbers. Im just saying that uber is still based on the same formula as cabs. You'll very seldom see me in a cap when Uber is an option, but know that a long haul is a long haul.

That's because ubers formula is more complex than miles and time these days. Uber has certain upcharges that'll go into the fare which Uber keeps. The most obvious one I'm aware of is their "propensity to cancel" upcharge which is when they determine you're not going to cancel the ride request if they raise the price by 5-15%. I didn't believe it until I tested it out, put in my gfs address 100 Elm St and then tried 101 Elm St and got a cheaper price by about 9%.

I see the Tropicana is now a Hilton Doubletree property.

Since I have a ton of Hilton Honors Rewards Points I am thinking about booking a few nights there in January. Free parking there on the Strip is nice, too.

Does anyone know what the rooms are comparable to, since I've never stayed there. Are they recently renovated? I'm not expecting a 4 star resort, but are they a solid 3, 3 1/2 star property with clean rooms?

Thanks for any info about the Tropicana rooms and the property..

A business associate and I were in town for a trade show and stayed there in Oct 2015 in run of the house rooms. Full disclosure - it was my 4th visit and I've never stayed at a 4 star property in LV; always went low end on the prior 3 - first visit Circus, second IP (smiling as I type the "I" and the "P") and third PH. I was told the entire hotel was renovated over the 20140-15 time frame and I was impressed by how clean the room was ( and was kept) and that it was much larger than I expected. Bright, no worn spots or funky stains on the furniture or carpet, nice quality towels and sheets, good water pressure on a high floor, hot water was HOT, comfy bed and quiet. Don't remember size or quality of TV. Casino was surprisingly small and craps tables were cold and cruel. My next trip was this past Sept for another trade show and was a little disappointed the Trop wasn't on the list of available hotels. I stayed at MGM Grand this time. MGM had much smaller rooms than I remember at the Trop but better appointed. I also remember it was a very long walk from Trop lobby to the elevator tower. I also thought the restaurant did a very nice job for breakfast - choices, quality and execution. Didn't eat any other meals there. Overall, MGM isn't my idea of a 4 star property and I'd rate Trop at a close one half star below MGM.

Tropicana got a total remodel in 2010/11. Spend a couple of nights there right when they reopened their poker room. I think that one was gone again less than a year later.

I liked their rooms. Nothing fancy but they did pretty well on the tropical vibe.

stayed there a couple of years ago, nice property. there was a separate check in line for Hilton Honors members, which was key, about 100 people on regular line.

keep in mind that even if using points for your stay they will charge you the damm resort fee.
