Never been clubbing in Vegas before - Anybody ever been to Calvin Harris at Omnia?

Assuming it's just a DJ set rather than full on gig(?) Tickets are $135 (including tax) but includes entry, a 'VIP experience' whatever that is and a $100 VIP bar card. Does this seem reasonable?

Also what's the dress code like? Website says "Proper nightlife attire" Assuming this means dress shirt, no jeans and black shoes? Or is it more relaxed? (As in could I get away with check shirt, dark jeans and brown canvassy shoes) Didn't really bring any 'nice' clothes and being lazy would rather not buy any unless I reeeeally had to haha.

nah he will do at least 1.5-2 hrs, he's a resident there. with $100 in drinks that ticket price is legit. don't count on the VIP experience actually being VIP. there's probably a separate line, which you might not want to stand in.

dress code is always flexible depending how attractive/cool you are. an ugly guy like me can't violate the dress code or i will risk getting bounced. but i've seen plenty of guys in there w/ tshirt and sneakers, it just depends who you are, who you tip, blah blah blah. i don't know what a check shirt is but if you look good and are attractive you're probably going to be fine.

If you are a DJ, you play sets. That's what you do. If you want to save 15% on car insurance or see a concert, go to Celine Dion.

Jeans are fine everywhere, dress shirt is at least preferred. Not that anyone cares, but don't wear brown shoes with a black belt.

Haha yeah I maybe worded the DJ set thing badly but I more just meant that I'm assuming it's him DJing tunes from various artists, rather than 2 hours or w/e just his own songs. Not that I'd mind, was just curious!

Thanks for the advice though, not expecting much from the VIP thing but figure for $35 plus 5 or 6 'free' drinks what's the worst that can happen!

I think "mainstream" guys like Calvin Harris feel obligated to play the chart hits people know them for, so those will probably be included along with various other stuff.

DJ sets at US clubs tend to be shorter and earlier than what you might be used to from Europe, especially compared to clubs at Ibiza. You can expect the main act to play for 1.5-2 hours somewhere between midnight and 3AM. You don't find acts like Carl Cox or Sven Väth playing from 4AM to 10AM in Vegas

Jeans are fine, as long as they aren't ripped. Generally speaking, black dress shoes is a must if you're a normal person.

Will be in town in two weeks and staying at the Delano@ Mandalay Bay.

I want to take Uber from my hotel to the Rio-WSOP, but I want to be dropped off at the side entrance where the convention center is and not the Rio main entrance, nor the Gold Coast side entrance where the Harrah's shuttle pick-up is.

Will Uber drivers drop me off at the Convention Center if I specifiy "The Rio" or is there another destination address I should use?

Thanks for any info..

that's a tough one, because normally on the strip uber drivers must be very careful and only drop you off at the designated uber drop off area. they might not be aware that it's ok to go to the WSOP area.

Uber has a dropoff and pickup area back by the convention center. It is the old valet area. By the signage it looks to be Uber exclusive and not Lyft.

IME there's no such thing as an Uber-exclusive area, it would just be that they paid for the advertising. At any rate, every driver I've had in the last year or so has been both Uber and Lyft.

Is the walk from Aria to the Rio doable during the daytime, or would I die of heat exhaustion before I get there?

You won't die of heat exhaustion, but you will wish you hadn't done the walk.

Me and my friends did the walk from Monte Carlo to Rio probably 6-8 times back in 2005, the first year it was at the Rio.

Then again, we were 22-23 at that time.

Haven't done it since then. Might be better to walk to Bally's and catch free shuttle to Rio. Hmmm, according to this, only at Harrahs now?

Something funny happened upon arrival at LAS last night. A toddler was screaming bloody murder because his mom wouldn't key him play on the slot machines. As we walked towards baggage claim behind them, mom was calming him down with "I know they're bright and shiny and loud, but they're only for big people to play." It occurred to me that that explanation is a big part of their appeal to adults, too.

I've done Rio -> Bellagio several times during past WSOPs and don't think it's too bad but the majority of people here highly disagrees with me on that.

So I'd say it depends on how much you like walking and how little you care about heat.

Regarding the Harrah's to Rio Shuttle (runs usually every 30 minutes) and the Linq-Gold Coast-Orleans Shuttle (Runs usually every 40 minutes)

Are these run more frequently during the WSOP? And if you decide to wait for one, do you run the risk of them being full and running out of room?

no. if there are 100 people sitting there waiting, hopefully you're smart enough to not be surprised when the bus pulls away with you not on it.

Lol I guess my question is should I even bother to wait for it or get off my wallet and use Uber or Taxi..

the answer to that question would be how much you value your time. must be kind of a crappy vacation if you're willing to sit there outside for 30 minutes to save $11.94.

lucky for you, the WSOP has very little impact on the free rio to harrah's shuttle!

Has anybody ever noticed the guy that works the players club desk at Binion's that looks like TJ Cloutier? Dead ringer IMO. I'll try to get a pic if I get back there today.

I can never think of TJ anymore without remembering the TJ Cookier thread.

Howdy. I was playing at flamingo, not a regular or high roller, but been platinum for a couple years. So im playing bj and I hear my name, look up and the boss is right at the table on the phone and then spells out my last name and says something about my wager. Who do you think he was talking to and why would he do it right in front of me? I didn't like it

They're just rating your play.

Unless the next thing that happened was that a manager arrived, flanked by two burly security personnel, who then asked you to follow them to a hidden elevator and took you to the basement. In that case the gentleman on the phone was likely discussing something else.
