Situation is as follows: This occurred during the winter months of 2014/early 2015. A reg in the 10/25 plo games have me an mgm flag and told me that he would swap it back during the end of the session. I forget and am left with this chip.

I attempt to cash it this year as I am back in Vegas and the mgm confiscated it despite thorough playing history at multiple mgm properties. They say that they need the full name of the player who gave the chip in order for it to be returned to me.

What I know about the player in question:

First name is Lee
White, middle aged man
Has a place in Vegas
Was a reg in the 10/25 plo aria games at some point

If anyone knows who this is or can direct me to a place where I'm more likely to find someone who does please help me out.

Thanks

My credit card was skimmed in Vegas (late May). I'm going over my transactions now and trying to figure out where it could have happened (I used two cards while there, the one I used the least is the skimmed one).

We can safely assume that skimming equipment inside the casinos would be totally unheard of?

The "TAG" sports bar at Linq, right next to the poker room, turned out to have a good beer selection and reasonable prices. I got a Grapefruit Sculpin comped for playing VP, and later bought a Fin du Monde for $6.50. Too bad these aren't available in the actual poker room.

You never tell cage someone gave you a chip. few years ago I just turned 21 and got a 5k chip for a payment. They said no record of play to receive a 5k chip. Gave me a receipt and said come back if you can prove otherwise.

I've been told the waitress for the linq poker games will walk over and get something fancy for ya if you ask nicely. I can't confirm though, I was on whiskey when I played linq

Tax Question

Canada doesn't have a tax treaty with the U.S. so Canadians have to pay 35% withholding tax whenever we win over 5k in a poker tourney, a $1200+ slot jackpot or a jackpot while playing one of the poker games in the pit.

Question is if I were to get lucky and win a let's say a 4k triactor while in a Sportsbook would they take withholding tax?

I know you can go on nice runs at blackjack and/or table games winning thousands and you aren't subjected to this tax, was just curious how it works at a typical sportsbook.

Tried searching here but most tax info is poker/slots related.

Found this, but it has conflicting info and might be outdated:

Looks like my new credit card got skimmed / duplicated over the weekend in Vegas. Have a funny feeling it happened at the Walgreens near Encore as they attempted to purchase stuff at the Ross next to it and it was declined. What's annoying is that it didn't generate any fraud alerts and I only noticed because I had a pending charge at a Terrible's today. Check yo statements!!

What's the difference b/w buy and place in craps. When I see people betting all the #s, do you have to distinguish whether you're buying or placing?

Buy bets pay off at true odds but with a 5% vig. For example, if you place the 4 or 10 you get 9:5, if you buy you get 2:1 but pay the 5%, so placing $10 would win $18 but the buy would be $19. You can do it on any number, it's just best on 4 and 10. Some places will auto-buy them at a minimum bet size, others you can call it. Also, some places will have minimums in order to buy.

FTR, I don't think I've ever seen anyone buy anything but the 4 and 10, but mathematically it does work out on the other numbers as long as the bet is big enough.

^^^ Just remember to always Buy the 4 & 10 and always Place the 6 & 8. On the 5 & 9 it depends on if the casino takes the vig on Buy bet up front. If they do, make a Place bet. If they don't Buy these numbers.

THIS ARTICLE sums it up very well.

I was taken for roughly 3k this trip. Anything from a 11 dollar coffee shop visit to a 1500 muffler. There was also a gym membership or two in there.

But you can dispute the charges and not be liable for them, right?

Yes, it just takes some time. MasterCard snap blocked my card when they saw all other charges were made on the other side of the Pacific.

Have to wait until the money actually leaves my account (!!) before making the claim though. Around 2.500 already left, now there's 500 in "reserved" mode. Once the 500 leaves I can start the reclaim process.

When they blocked the card the money was still in my account, but the whole amount of 3.000 USD was reserved for this BS he ordered. The bank were powerless to stop the money from leaving my acc.

Or it's possible a waiter simply wrote down my info when running my tab. No need to skim when you physically have it in your possession.

I still physically have the card and it was used via several card present transactions in Vegas, so it was clearly duplicated.

I'll have a replacement card today, so it's really just a nuisance more than anything... but I'm always curious on how I got popped.

I've also seen a number of ATMs in Vegas that were clearly hacked / compromised. Granted this was at DEFCON, so it was generally speaking in good fun... I think. (Defcon is in two weeks @ Ballys btw)

The threshold for having to report a winning race wager is that it has to be over $600 AND over 300-1, so you can bet $500 to win on a 10-1 shot and make a clear 5k if it wins, but if you make a triactor (or trifecta as it's referred to in the states) bet of $500, using 500 different $1 combinations, and you hit it for $601, then you would have to report it, and as a Canadian citizen I believe they would withhold the 35% immediately.
