ugh that sucks. i can't help you out legally, so i'll just say GL man.

stupid that you have to jump through hoops for your relief. why did a doctor go through the trouble of the consultation if he couldn't get you what you need? seems like a rip off. keep us updated. i'm curious how this is gonna work out.

I'm visiting vegas for four days and plan on playing poker for a total of maybe 25 hours at the Venetian. Is it worth it to sign up for their players card?

How does the players card work at the V for comps from poker, is it similar to the way CET does it (earn points directly to the card)?

Well yeah, pretty much. You swipe in when you when you sit down and they keep track. Only difference is that poker comps are separate from casino floor comps and to use them you go to the poker desk instead of the Grazie desk

No, you have to get a paper comp from the poker room.

Contemplating a move to Vegas in a few months. Is the consensus that a winrate north of $40 is still possible for say, the top 15% of players, in the deeper 2-5 games?

Separate, totally unrelated question: has anyone taken continuing education classes at UNLV? (i.e., enrolling in limited term classes as an adult) I am looking to beef up my psychology academic background.

There was an ad in one of those Poker magazines for $36 a night at the Las Vegas Hotel abd Casino near the Wynn. There was a special website to go to to get that rate but I cant find it anymore. I went to the LVH official website but it lists prices waaay higher than that. If anybody can point me in the right direction to get this deal I will forever be in your debt

I know they advertised in poker player newspaper:

http://www.pokerplayernewspaper.com/...ues/050613.pdf page 13 middle of page

http://www.pokerplayernewspaper.com/...ues/042213.pdf page 13 right side middle

Site listed is www.playerrooms.com

I like the idea of you forever being in debt to me, although i don't know how good that does me if you need $36 room this badly.

Site itself looks a bit sketchy, but who knows. Good luck.

Anyone know of good housing options (rental), including apt complexes, which are somewhat close to both UNLV and the strip, not loud/scummy/degeny/party-heavy, relatively cheap ($800 or less for decent 1 br), etc. Any help much appreciated.

Do Vegas cabs still charge a $3 fee on top of the total cost for using a credit card? Had a scummy driver last summer pretend he didn't know what the $3 fee was for, otherwise I could've used cash.

I would book directly with the hotel, they seem to have that code in their system.

That said, i actually called the hotel to research this and everything the CS rep on the phone told me indicated that this is only for "tda members". So before you count on this for lodging and book the room, i would make sure to know exactly what bonafides you are going to have to present upon checkin to actually get the rate.

How close is reasonably close? To put it another way, do you have a car?

If not, You wont have much trouble finding something in your price range walking distance to UNLV and a short bus ride to the strip. But the area in general is pretty seedy.

The las vegas grand is probably a couple hundred out of your price range, but if you have to live near UNLV, it is worth it IMO.

The northeast corner of UNLV is on Maryland just south of flamingo. In general, as you move out from that intersection (at least if youre talking walking distance to UNLV) things tend to get seedier as you go along.

Has anyone done a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon west rim? My girlfriend and I and her 3 year old daughter are planning to do this when we are there at the end of May. What is a good company to book with? We wanted to go with Papillon Helicopters but unfortunately they are already fully booked.

Very helpful, thank you. I do have a car and wouldn't mind a 15 min drive to either unlv or the strip (or 25 from one to the other). What's the grand?

If that is an acceptable drive time for you, you have plenty of options for apartments that are in decent locations. In general, if you head south/southeast or west from the heart of the strip, the neighborhoods get nicer the further out you go (east and north not so much). I live about 6 miles west of the strip in a decent area and I can get to the strip in 15 minutes except during rush hour. There are plenty of apartment complexes all around although I don't know how much they go for, you could just go to forrent.com or somewhere like that and look. Anything west of Rainbow Blvd. or south of Sunset Road should be in a decent location.

15 minute commute is doable from a very large chunk of the valley, you can broaden your search considerably. Traffic in Vegas is pretty mild.

Where to eat?

Post-wedding dinner for 40 with an incredibly diverse crowd: foodies, people who order steak well done, children, adults who basically only eat chicken fingers or mac n cheese, edit: someone with Celiac's, and people who would be appalled if their post-wedding dinner (or their child's post-wedding dinner) is at a buffet.

FML.

40 people and a buffet is not an option?

My advice? F them, not your life. It's not their day, it's yours. Make a noticeable effort to pick a spot that will accommodate the max # of them while keeping your enjoyment level above a 90% level and then just let them deal with it.

Also a lot of restaurants or even whole resorts (Wynn for example) have group reservation emails and phone numbers who will do quite a bit of the legwork for you for things like this. I'd start there. Good luck!
