I think what horseforcourse was thinking was: At the end because I do so well at the tables I'll just be paying the room off in cash. Do I really have to upfront give a credit card? Or can I hide this trip from prying eyes by not giving a credit card? I know I'll ask 2+2. (Maybe he/she planning to visit LV without the knowledge of his spouse or boss. Or dosen't want the word "Casino" to show on their receipt. )

The answer is probably not. But at the end you can usually get a receipt showing that no charges were made on your card and nothing will be reported.

But perhaps horseforcourse is young and needs some avuncular advice:
Optimally you should get a credit card that has no annual fees and that gives you cash back in terms of points on purchases. You link this to your checking account so that it is automatically paid off. Thereby you have no late payment fees, and your credit score steadily improves or remains very good.
There is the off chance that horseforcourse does not have or can get a credit card in time for the trip and is exploring their possibilities. If this is the case there is almost certainly a hotel you can stay at by paying with cash advance. It will not be a very nice hotel.
I guess I should clarify

I do have credit card/debit card etc. I am going with 8 people(staying in multiple rooms), and I want to bill everything (for everyone) to my room in hopes of getting most of it comped, also I will get Tier and Rewards credits from CET.

I was just going to have people give me cash for what they got and then pay it off in the end.

You can put all the rooms together on one bill and on your one credit card. Collect the cash from your guests and use it to payoff the charges. You may want to call ahead and get this pre arranged. It should be no problem. I've been with a group that did this.

A little word to the wise. Do not allow anyone( this includes you) to charge anything to the room(s). You can tell the front desk; "no room charges" and they will not allow it.Someone gets drunk, thinks its OK and charges dinner(s) to the room using your name.Someone will probably go broke and won't be able to pay you so get the payment for the visits up front and don't allow charges.

Good way to lose friends.

Am I being cynical??

You are 110% correct. I don't even want my g/f charging stuff to the rooms we share.

No cynicism on your part.

I guess I am too trusting of my friends, known them since I was a kid.
Thanks for the input guys. I just figured it would be an easy way to get some extra attention from a host.

This is bad advice for the questioner who might believe you and assume no need for security, up front; where is this hotel which allows you a room without security?
Believe it or not there are hotels in Vegas that will allow you to leave a small cash deposit instead of a CC and there are also hotels that you don't even need to leave any deposit.

Mandalay Bay will take $100 cash deposit per day instead of a CC.

Last year when I checked into Aria they took $100 a day cash instead of a CC.

Monte Carlo, Luxor and NYNY require $100 cash deposit instead of CC also.

Excalibur doesn't require any deposit, The IP requires zero deposit and Harrahs requires zero deposit.

Ballys and Flamingo doesn't require any deposit either unless you want to charge things to your room.

So whoever above is stating that all hotels require a CC or a large deposit is wrong.

Hire car, taxi, Deuce (bus) or walk, although not necessarily in that order of preference.

The bus is good for transport back and forth for a day. You'll pay $3 each way, I think.

Greeting Earthlings.

I'm coming to vegas mid may for to give her my cherry.
I'm a low LIMIT limit poker player...3/6-4-8. Just wondering what places will be relatively fun/entertaining and serve up some free sierra/nevada beer whilst splashing around in pots? Staying mid strip (cosmo)

I have over-researched this trip both here, yelp, google etc etc but cant find any trip reports because limit is the poor sister.
cheers

Limit is pretty limiting. Not many rooms get games anymore.

On the CET side, Flamingo is their 2/4 limit capital. Bally's sometimes gets a 3/6 game. No other CET property commonly does (though when the Megabeat BBJ rises, limit players may emerge from the woodwork to try to lose with quad jacks and rooms that normally never get a limit game may have 'em.)

Of the independents, Venetian will usually have a 4/8 game.

Mirage often gets 3/6 games. Bellagio often has 4/8.

Check bravopokerlive.com or their smart phone app before you hike to a room to see if they have going what you want to play.

As for Sierra Nevada... dunno. I can show you a map showing which casinos are Coke and which are Pepsi, but I haven't seen any similar displays of who serves what beers. ( http://www.vegastodayandtomorrow.com/coke-or-pepsi.htm in case people really care.)

a few other places somewhat near the Cosmopolitan not previously mentioned that have limit poker are The Palms and The Orleans. They're close-by if you have a car (too far to walk I'd say though).

when you're not playing poker the Cosmo is a fantastic place to hang out though especially in the evenings.

B has all the limit action in town: 4/8, 10/20, 20/40, 40/80 etc.

However Venetian has 4/8 running consistently, sometimes multiple tables, and usually 4/8 LO8 too if you play that game.

Watch Bravo for Wynn games; they get 4/8 going fairly often and sometimes it morphs into mixed games and runs slightly higher like 8/16 and I've even seen 9/18 mix running.

If you only want to play 3/6 try Mirage and Ballys, those are pretty consistent games. You can play 2/4 like everywhere, and 2-6 spread at Monte Carlo and Excalibur.

During the series Venetian can get 8/16 games going, and Rio will have certain limits within the Bellagio spectrum above at random times throughout.

Tax question:

I file as a business (poker) and have always used the standard meal rate each year for official poker play when out of town which happens to be $46 (deduct half of it) regardless of what state it takes place. I figure to not be lazy this time around and use the $71/day instead of $46/day for my time spent playing in Vegas.

Do those of you who live outside Nevada use the $71 rate when accounting for the per diem meals in Vegas? I feel like I am short changing myself using the standard rate all this time.

It seems pretty obvious to me that you can and should be using the $71/day rate so long as you're maintaining proper books and records. What is your question?

Sorry let me be more clear. Not asking if $71 > $46, but rather if people actually bother to break it down and use the rates of every unique city they visit such as Vegas or if they also use $46 as well for simplicity.

I'm obviously not just subtracting 71-46 and realizing there's a positive number remaining. I also said you "can" do this, and I assume that's what you're asking. Good luck Mr. Bieber.
