This is bad advice for the questioner who might believe you and assume no need for security, up front; where is this hotel which allows you a room without security?
I think what he is saying is that some hotels will let you check in by placing a (large) security deposit instead of using a credit card, but you are correct it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find such hotels. I would check this out before arrival.
I think what
horseforcourse was thinking was:
At the end because I do so well at the tables I'll just be paying the room off in cash. Do I really have to upfront give a credit card? Or can I hide this trip from prying eyes by not giving a credit card? I know I'll ask 2+2. (Maybe he/she planning to visit LV without the knowledge of his spouse or boss. Or dosen't want the word "Casino" to show on their receipt. )
The answer is probably not. But at the end you can usually get a receipt showing that no charges were made on your card and nothing will be reported.
But perhaps
horseforcourse is young and needs some avuncular advice:
Optimally you should get a credit card that has no annual fees and that gives you cash back in terms of points on purchases. You link this to your checking account so that it is automatically paid off. Thereby you have no late payment fees, and your credit score steadily improves or remains very good.
There is the off chance that
horseforcourse does not have or can get a credit card in time for the trip and is exploring their possibilities. If this is the case there is almost certainly a hotel you can stay at by paying with cash advance. It will not be a very nice hotel.
