I'd also assume they don't party everyday like us out-of-towners do on our 3-5 dayish trip... Party selection.

Quick question I should know the answer to: I probably logged ~100 hours at Bellagio in 2012 swiped in with my mLife card. Were those hours adding $1/hr to my Express Comps, or are those hours seperately tracked within the poker room? If the latter is the case, can I go get like 4 buffet comps next weekend?

not sure how bel handles it, but generally they are tracked in the poker room and you can get a credit from the desk that you can take to places within the hotel to spend.

Yeah, that's how it works at Venetian and some other various places I've played, I guess for some reason I always assumed that MGM and Ceasars properties were just adding $ to my general comps on my card. I always try to spend all those comps by the end of each trip, so I assumed I was just using them up $10 at a time. But after some thinking, I realized there's a chance I might have a veritable BUFFET COMP GOLDMINE waiting for me at Bellagio!

every time I asked that question at MGM properties, they told me it was separate.

MLife poker comps are completely separate. At Bellagio, Aria, MGM, etc you have to see a floor person. If you've logged all those hours and never redeemed any, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

When I visit Vegas, I'm able to stay up late or get up early because I'm so excited to be there, but I'd imagine someone who's lived there years and years wouldn't feel the excitement I do.

So if you are a Vegas resident, how do you stay up late or get up early?
All my life I have been a night person. My Dad was a night person. My grown kids are night people and during their childhoods they got enormous amounts of **** from schoolteachers, as I once did, for not keeping "normal" hours.

I moved to Vegas a couple of years ago and it suits me just fine. Aside from the fact that every casino is open 24 hours a day, and each casino has at least one 24-hour restaurant, there are plenty of 24-hour restaurants, grocery stores, and Wal-Marts. You can take Fido for a walk at one of many 24-hour lighted dog parks.

Even in supposedly hip places like NYC and LA, most restaurants, bars, and stores close at night, and try ordering breakfast after 11 AM. 100% of other U.S. localities have arbitrary restrictions on what time you can and can't purchase alcohol.

Vegas isn't quite the libertarian paradise just yet, we still have laws about whom you can marry and what you can smoke; and by local custom all car dealerships and many furniture stores are closed on Sunday. But there's not much time-of-day discrimination here.

Is there any particular strip poker room that offers free copies of every poker magazine currently out there? How long do I need to play before leaving so I don't look like I just came for the free magazines?

lol, just walk into the room and grab one. The room doesn't care one bit.

Walmart, Fry's, or Best Buy. Listed here in order by price, lowest to highest.

None are in walking distance. Fry's is at LV Blvd and I-215 (you get to enjoy having planes from McCarran fly directly overhead at 1500' while shopping). Best Buy is east at Twain and Maryland (that's the hood--don't dawdle after dark). Walmart is on Tropicana past Eastern.

I'm like eob... Never have lived a normal 8-5 life. I learned EARLY in college to schedule no class before 9:30, and worked pretty hard to aim for no Monday class before noon. Grad school was very freeing--nothing but Tuesday/Thursday classes. And for 30 years I had jobs that let me work pretty much any schedule I pleased. And I please. I'm FAR more productive from 8pm to 4am than I am from 8am to 4pm.

This has a lot to do with why I'm in Vegas. Wake up at 1am in Timbuktu and there's nothing to do. Wake up in Vegas at 1am and you can find something.

Runs in the family. Brother is the same way. He was far more likely to still be awake when his kids were waking up to go to school than to be waking up with them (they're now grown, so he doesn't have to be up to see they get to skewl).

Also interested in this, staying at Rio with gf on feb/march and looks like the weather would be around +20 celcius which would be fine pool weather for us coming from the cold north, but will the pool area(s) be still closed off or something?

Call the hotel you're interested in or check their website. For example the V website says it has some pools and jacuzzis that are heated and open year-round.

You won't find lounge chairs/cabanas/discos until at least mid-March.

Recommendations for a chill kinda upscale nightclub/lounges like Mix or Foundation Room but mid-strip? Somewhere to get a couple martinis or some scotch and be able to relax and talk. The only thing I can think of is Mandarin Oriental which I still haven't checked out, but I'm probably overlooking some obvious spots.

Hyde at Bellagio, Gold Lounge at Aria. Mandarin Bar will likely be the most chill of the bunch though.

I do want to check out Hyde to see how they've changed the space. I've had the impression it's more on the loud club side. Gold Lounge looks cool, thanks for that, we'll check it out.

Oh, and what is up with the buy-in structures in LA?

I had assumed that Hyde was more low-key than a real club but I am sure it is louder than a chill lounge. Never been in there personally. Is Caramel or whatever it's called still open there?
