Gave my recommendations. Both are less than 15 mins from the strip and worth the drive.

OP, even if you have a car don't be a yutz and drive off the strip just to go to a buffet. That's just dumb.

The food court near the Venetian poker room has a Salad vender that is reasonable.

For breakfast I usually get a yogurt/granola cup, but next trip I am considering just bringing muesli/granola with me getting a small milk from Wal-greens and picking up some some bananas.

The M is at 12300 S. Las Vegas Blvd. The buffet is worth the drive. But you'll likely have to stand in line.

- I'm planning a 7 or 8 day trip to Vegas 2nd or 3rd week of August. 2nd time going, but first time going alone to play a ton of poker.

What's the best way to get good rates in a strip hotel?
- priceline?
- vegas deals websites?
- contacting the hotels directly and getting a poker player rate?
- other?

Many thanks for your advice.

FYI, hotels I'm considering: Aria, Bellagio, Cosmo, Vdara... Any comments on these are also welcomed

Cheers
Basically going to do the same thing as this guy. I am coming from CT to stay from aug 30th to sep 9th or 10th.

Few questions:
1. I play 2/5nl and would like to have about 5k with me for the trip. Best method of getting it over/keeping it safe once its there?

2. As of right now I I have done some perusing and can get a roundtrip flight, plus all my nights at Luxor for about 1200$ To me that seems pretty reasonable but I want to save as much money as possible.

Aria/Venetian Poker rate appears much higher (125-150 a night) then staying at Luxor or somewhere farther/not as nice.

I don't mind walking a bit up the strip if it's saving me money. I'm 21 and capable of walking, this will be my first time in Vegas.

Should I call hotels and ask what type of rate I can get? Do I get a special discount for staying for 8 or 9 days?

Again, I want to stay for as cheap as possible (in somewhere decent) where I can walk under an hour to a major poker room.

You may do better booking flight and rooms separately.

Luxor is a fair walk from Venetian.

I'd stay at Harrah's, Flamingo, or Bally's which may be cheaper than Luxor, and are mid strip.

Bally's is directly across from Bellagio, and a short walk to Aria and Venetion all have 2/5.

Wow I did about 2 hours of research before posting that and didn't think to check my total rewards card.

I went to AC once for a friend's birthday and went on a gambling binge and they are giving me a bunch of comped rooms in Vegas.

I actually have the option to stay at all those casinos except Bellagio (with comped rooms). I have comps for mon-thurs

Wow. I just got so happy.

Edit: Anyone have experience booking with totalrewards? My midweek rooms are free but it only allowing me to book 11 nights at Ballys.

Can I book the 11 nights and then stay the next 3 at a different property? Website says comped but I am unaware of whether or not the rooms will still be comped after booking the original 11 nights. I suppose I will call them tomorrow.

Do hotels care if you buy liquor or beer to bring back to the room? Do I need to hide it in a suitcase or is it not a big deal?

No of course not. You can go and buy anything (non-dangerous) and bring it back to your room.

Hell... you can bring hookers and blow back to your room. Your danger level may vary, but as long as you don't bother other guests, the hotel could care less.

That's not entirely true, I've seen people stopped by security trying to bring cases of beer up. It will depend on the hotel and the level of security (obviously more likely anywhere that has security at the elevators). Classier joints don't want a bunch of frat boys partying in the rooms.

I would hope buzz12586 would be discreet. Yes certainly if your hauling in a few cases of beer with your buddies drinking, behaving badly and making a scene, looking like your going to disturb other guest and do the hotel damage, then security will say something. They may even say you can't bring in the Alcohol, but what they really are saying is don't do that. Don't misbehave.

In summary just bring in a few beers, keep them covered, don't make a big show of it and don't misbehave. You'll be fine.
