I'm flying 15th June to June 28th for $278 on Delta, out of Augusta, GA! So its definitely possible to fly cheap just depends on dates.

what would a place like this cost? are there appartments like this (still) for sale?

just so I have something to aspire to.
You mean half-built ones with no walls? Yeah, plenty of them are still for sale.

Anyone have experience with driving from SLO and have a preferred route?
Isn't 58 like a 2 lane farm road? Those suck. I always get stuck behind a Winnebago. Plus you have to stop or slow down for little farm towns. If 58 is the one I'm thinking of, it also sucks if weather is bad. Snow or high winds can be a problem if a storm is going through. The other way looks like just about all freeways. I know you can fly on 210 if traffic is light.

This. The cheap way is to take time off and leave on Wednesday instead of Friday. The only other way I know of is to name your own priceline, or sign up for alerts months in advance and keep monitoring the sites to for a price drop.

I've never driven from SLO, but I've driven from Santa Barbara and Ventura a bunch, and you don't have the best route from Google maps as far as a southern route imo. It sounds complicated but it beats going down into LA:

101 south to the 126 east to the 5 south to 14 north to the 138 west (or south? right before you hit Lancaster), west on the 18 until you hit the 15N. From Ventura it is about 5.5 hours or 6 depending on how many stops you make. And I'm not a speed demon on the road.

But I don't know, I don't do the drive in the middle of the night so LA might be okay. But take a look at a map, my route saves you a lot of miles on your southern route. My route probably gets pretty dark when you are traveling though.

Any golfer's out there? Curious as to approximate price I am looking at to play at a middle tier (nothing super special) course and renting clubs out there.

Never been on the 58 before. All I can tell from looking at Google maps is that is goes through the middle of nowhere and seems pretty windy.

I'll check this out on Google maps. For the two routes I mentioned before Google claims 7 hours and 7.5 hours respectively so I'm not sure how much time your route will save. It takes me 1-1.5 hours to get from SLO to SB.

I have driven from Bakersfield to SLO on the 58.

West of Bakersfield the 58 becomes this two-lane winding and scenic mountain road all the way to its intersection with US-101 north of SLO. There are zero services or civilization between west Bakersfield and the 101, no gas, food, motels, 7-11s, or traffic. You will not make time on this section of road, you will be lucky to average 30 MPH. However if you are into driving back roads for the fun of it (and you have a supply of drinks and snacks) it is a fun adventure.

The 58 between Bakersfield and I-15 is about half freeway and half treacherous two-laner with lots of oncoming trucks.

I lived in santa maria before moving to Vegas... THE best route...

166 across to the 99 to the ARVIN turn off hwy 223 to the 58 to the 15. you can FLY on this route(except arvin and the few little towns, drive the speed limit in them).

Just be sure you tank up.

By the way, when I said west anywhere in my directions, I meant east. My bad.

I'm finally going to make a trip to Vegas next year during the Series (beat: wanted to this year but my buddy turns 21 in August). Obviously that's pretty far off so I'm talking in a general sense here. The idea is to get the cheapest room possible but still be near or on the Strip, it seems the IP would be the place to look into? And aside from keeping an eye on Expedia/Travelocity/etc once we know the dates, any tips on getting a cheap flight/hotel/package deal?

Thanks in advance, just reading this thread already has me dreaming of the trip.

It depends on what you want to do. The WSOP is off-strip at the Rio. If that's your main focus, you probably want to stay there or near there.

For your other questions, surf the forum. The same questions have been asked and answered dozens of times.

Where is the best place to find a cheap room at a Caesar's+ casino (V, Aria, B, Wynn, Cosmo, etc) for a specific weekend. Might need 2 rooms.

I have comps in some places, but it's **** holes like TI, Golden Nugget etc.

I'm more looking for purchasing a comp off of someone else, or good advice for purchasing a room, not how to convince them to comp me.

I usually just take the cheapest deal on expedia, or use free comps.

Ok this will be my first Vegas trip so got tons of questions and the search feature on this website is actually harder to use than i thought it would be.

My first question is about dress code in casinos, is jeans and sneakers ok?

Im 21 but look about 15, will i get ID'd every two seconds?

If i was to make a decent sum of money, whats the easiest way would to get it back to UK?

How hot is 100 degrees, for walking from the riviera to central strip area?

And finally, tip $1 per pot over $15? is that ok?

Thanks for your time guys.

jeans and sneakers are ok
you'll get id'd when u sit in a game and when u ask for alcohol/ cigarettes
in ur pocket, report to customs if u carry more than 10000us back home
it's hot but doable...
any tip is fine, tip some more on really big pots (100+), always tip a buck for ur drinks...
enjoy yourself

Thank you very much.

Also yes sweating in jeans i though would be a problem, are swimming type shorts ok or will i need tailored ones?

You won't sweat that much thanks to the low humidity, but it will definitely be warm for you..especially coming from the UK. If the temps get closer to 110 it feels like your feet and lips are about to melt off.

While you're walking from Riviera to mid-Strip duck into the McD's by Slots-a-Fun and grab you a $1 ice cream cone...

There's practically no dress code at the casinos. It's not like in Europe. The other day there was a girl in a bikini at the craps table.

TI is not a **** hole, imo. if you have a comp there, take it and upgrade to a suite. the upgrade won't cost much and the room will be v nice.

Don't sweat the dress code. You will see all kinds in Vegas. It's not uncommon to be at a table with people dressed as extreme as these guys:
