I would imagine that Vegas casinos who cater to tourists around the world should be familiar with all sorts of different forms of currency.

That being said, I've been surprised before by merchants that don't see it that way, so it's always best to check beforehand as you did.
It's because there have been so many high-quality counterfeits.

in vegas right now, and am looking to trade cash for some online dough. want about $10,000 spread over stars/tilt but if you have less and can help out let me know (well, at least 2,500). i figure there's got to be a lot of people out here now with plenty of cash on them. we'd meet in person (i'm at the wynn) and i'd give you a small % for the favor. thanks.

No disrespect intended bud, but considering that Nigeria is the home to more than 3/4 of the financial scams on Earth, I wouldn't trade a $10 Rio food voucher for a $10k Nigerian cashiers check!

Any good wifi spots? Foolishly booked a hotel with only cable connections, but 4 of us want to play the Sunday majors.

Cafes are good, free is good but don't mind paying, hotel lobbies with details of SSIDs are good.

where's the best place to buy some prepaid mobile phones close to the strip and how much are these likely to cost?

due to roaming charges don't want to have to use my own phone while there, thanks!

Yes, if you're talking about a plastic card and not a document that allows you to travel to foreign lands.

pretty much everywhere has wifi. mcdonalds has wifi out here.

just a random suggestion would be coffee bean on maryland. take tropicana east away from the strip to maryland, then turn left and it'll be on your right.

depending on traffic it'll be 5-10 minutes from the strip.

A quick noob Q - if I wire $40k to the Bellagio, how much of it will they typically allow me to take out in cash right away? (I'm only thinking of a few k in walk-around money)

..was totally leveling on the nigerian check LOL..

Question, Can you just have stars wire money to the Rio and picj it up there [for WSOP, table games, sats, or eventual cashout??].. this seems like the best move for me vs wire to my account then wire to rio. I have a question in at support on this as well.

Yeah, the whole idea of Visa (and Mastercard) is that you can use it across the world.

The four of you should each chip in $15 and buy a wireless router. Shouldn't be too hard to set up.

If you have decent stakes, it's probably worthwhile to use your own router so you can secure it.

I went to Walmart, and got a Net10 phone - $30 for 300 minutes of talk time, including the handset and no contracts/ongoing fees.

This is a great idea. Unfortunately the Walmart I went to in Vegas was pretty far off the strip. We got a cab out to one (flight lost our luggage and we wanted to get some cheap toiletries and change of clothes) but getting a cab to come pick us up afterwards was near impossible. I think you'd better have your own rental car if you want to try this.

Can you buy these phones in the airport anywhere, or would that be too convenient to be allowed or too expensive to be practical?

Apparently it is up to their "discretion" but I got 10% I believe. I think 10-15% is the max. Be nice to the clerk.

Pretty much. I'd call two or three and ask them the price to get a filling replaced. No idea how much it costs as my insurance covers it.

I have a room at the wynn for 2 weeks and invited a friend along with me. Now suddenly my best friend says he wants to come too (at first he didnt wanna go) so i said yeh thats cool but you ll have to sleep on the floor. (he s in the army and used to stuff like that lol).

also, friend nr 1 will only be there for 1 week. (so the other week there wont be a problem)

so would it be a problem if there were 3 people staying in the room instead of 2 ?

I don't want to deal with taking too much cash on a flight, so I was going to just take a small amount of cash with me and bring the rest of my money in a cashiers check. Sadly, I really have no idea how a cashiers check works with a casino.

Do I have the check made out to The Rio? Will they just give me cash/chips? Will they deposit it into an account at the Rio for me that I can take out whenever I want? Do I have to have an account with them before I get there with my cashiers check? Help please, I am clueless =]

Replacing a filling doesn't cost 3k. Stop feeding him bull****. Shouldn't run over $200.

I wouldn't sweat it, I'm sure I've stayed with similar arrangements many times.

Worst case if they figured it out (and I have no idea how they would nor do I think they really care to monitor this), I would think you would just have to pay the extra $$ they normally charge for an extra person.
