I'm staying at the crappy Imperial Palace, so I doubt they have a shuttle, but is there any shuttles you can get? Anything you can arrange if you know you are getting there in advance? I'm coming next Tuesday night.
a cab or a limo/town car?

Do a greater number of short term rentals on places like priceline. You can get under $20 per day sometimes.

So in your first post when you said "always", you really meant "once".

I am staying at Imperial Palace but I don't plan on staying there more than just to shower. Are there any cool free pools at other hotels w/ impressive views I can lounge around at? What do you guys suggest

Flamingo. Shouldn't be more than a $30 cab ride from IP.

One more thing I was curious about...I'm going to be playing 2/5 and 5/10. Bringing about $3,000 with me, which sucks in itself. It would be nice if there was some temp. banking system in Vegas. What if I win a few grand or more...I'd be just asking for it to get robbed walking around for 7 days w/ that kind of money.

You could wire the $ to a casino ahead of time if you're concerned about carrying the money while traveling. You could also get a cashier's check that you cash at a casino or bank. (Call ahead for appropriate procedures on that one.) Once you're there, there is usually a safe in your room, but you're staying at IP so I'm not so sure about there - others on here should know the answer to that.

But seriously, the amount of $ your talking about is not very much by Vegas standards. Unless you're flashing it around you won't draw attention to yourself. OTOH, you DID get charged $60 for cab from the airport to IP, so YMMV.

Yeah but I'm playing cards the first 3 days I'm there. Then some buddies are coming and I'll be getting piss on a cop drunk w/ 5g's in my wallet. U think Oriental Palace has some safes or something. When I'm at home I don't really care cuz I can just go put it in my bank whenever

Def stay at IP if having 10k in your pocket is a situation you expect to encounter. On your deathbed, you'll look back and be glad you saved that money.

Jeez, did I get really lucky on cab rides or something to/from the airport? I think I paid like $19 incl tip to get to Riviera then $16 incl tip to get from Harrah's to the airport last night (though the latter cabbie got pretty insulted when I said "please don't take I-15 to get there" and vehemently stated he knew where he was going). However, my friend and I DID get extremely ripped off going to and from Gold and Silver Pawn (not only getting longhauled on the way back via taking the highway and going $6 over the price it was supposed to be according to the cab service when he called it in after we yelled at him, but cute stuff like when going there where the cabbie would drive in and circle random parking lots before getting back on LV Boulevard).

Also, really, staying at IP when you're going to be playing 2/5 and 5/10? Just pay the extra bucks for Harrahs/Flamingo/Bally's, or at least use your comped rooms from Total Rewards if you can, or stay at Aria midweek for the awesome poker rate. I had a relatively mild experience the first time I stayed at IP, but after staying at Aria and the newly upgraded rooms at Riviera, IP's Deluxe room really sucked in comparison.

Open a safe deposit box? Not sure if IP has them, but it took me under 5m to get it set up at Harrahs and had no problems with it my entire trip

Also tell him do not take the tunnel and to take Koval. (Paradise,Flamingo,Koval) Ask to come in to the back of IP (where group check in is.) It was $20 in 2008, maybe more now with increased gas prices.

Shuttles are right there at the airport, as I recall Taxi's and limo's are on one side and shuttles are on the other side. There are signs. Vegas.com claims its $13 round trip.

http://www.vegas.com/transportation/shuttles.html

This February 2011, my Friend took a shuttle to the IP and it was among the first stops. It took longer for me to wait in the check in line at IP, then it took him to get there from the airport.

Cheers!

Speaking of this, I had a pretty wide range of cab experiences when I was in town. I had everything from your standard longhaul to a guy showing me pictures of people ****ing in the back of his cab.

One thing I did notice was that the only times I got longhauled, it was going to or from IP. I never ran into ANY trouble going to/from Aria, Paris, or Caesar's. Is this purely coincidental, or is there any merit to the "cabbies are more likely to screw you over if you are going to a ****tier place" idea?

You could say you're a local and you're parked at the hotel because it's more convenient and less expensive than airport parking. I sometimes do this, and they never take me a weird way.

Side note, I don't know if we can name names of casino employees in the forum (it's a no-no in B&M), but I have to say that in general, had some very good cocktail waitresses at Bill's Gamblin' Hall poker room of all places. Quick, very friendly, good drinks, all around 3-5am

It wouldn't surprise me, since IP is kind of a noobish place to stay. Perhaps the cabbies assume that nobody would stay there twice, therefore the person in their cab is a first-time visitor. It's a theory anyway. Still would like to see the size of the balls on the cabbie who manages to turn it into a $60 ride.
